This is part of the Hilden family of brewers which is based close to Queens University in the south side of the city.
Hilden itself is the longest running independent brewery in the north and to be honest I've never been a fan of their brews. The problem was many of their range of pale ales (of which they all tasted the same) were riddled with problems, notably sulphurous off flavours which are generally caused by problems with yeast or poor storage and transportation.
Now, College Green's beers have put things right. Their chocolate stout (brewed with chocolate malt....does not actually contain chocolate) is a triumph in terms of local beers. Rich, biscuity dark cocoa, fairly low carbonation (even for cask) which actually improves drinkability. Smooth roasted malt, some noticable crystal malt, some fresh wort. Some coffee and dark chocolate bitterness on the finish, slightly chalky on the palette...
