This is my local off license that I've been calling into for years, it's so handy when you need a decent bottle of something! There is such a thing as an alcohol emergency! Their wines are extensive, from cheap and cheerful to expensive and delicious. They also have a large variety of spirits, stocking some of the higher end gins. Not only that they have plenty of different mixers, from basic Coke to organic fever tree tonic, which I love! I'm not massively into beer so couldn't tell you the types they stock but looks like there are plenty of options for the discerning customer. The shop assistants are all very friendly and more than happy to help if you want advice on anything, they will also order a bottle of your fave in if they don't stock it. My only problem with the place is they've stopped asking me for my id.... Clearly I've started showing my age! read more

This off licence is, as my 5 star rating would suggest, is as good as it can get when it comes to Belfast off licenses. The service is incredible and the range of alcohol is spectacular. I have discovered a number of great red wines that are very reasonably priced, one such being the Black Shiraz, which in my opinion is the best wine you can get for under ten pounds. If you are unsure about what to get, then simply ask the friendly staff who will not confuse you with specialised wine tasting jargon, but keep it simple and to the point. Even if wine is not your thing Gap Wines sells an eclectic mix of beers from around the world. I would suggest you try some BrewDog, specifically the Punk IPA beer which, if you are a beer fan, you will certainly enjoy! read more

This is an absolute gem of a place. Seriously. I'm actually a relative newcomer to the world of wine, so I'm in no position to comment on the quality of their cellar, but what I can comment on is the beer selection and the service. These guys really know their stuff, which makes a difference to the customer who may be a little overwhelmed at having to pick (i.e. me). They also order in beers on request, a service my brother in law has made use of in the past, so for those of us with international tastes who don't want fobbed off by imported beer, Gapwines will find you the real thing, fresh from its country of origin. You'll pay for it, but who cares about that?? read more
Pretty slick beer selection. Right off the motorway. I asked for Brewdog and any type of sour beers. They didnt have either. Lots of malty, British and Irish beers to make up for it though. read more

Gap Wine's on the Antrim Road is a brilliant little off license. It differs from all the others on the Antrim Road in that it deals with wine that imports personally and doesn't just buy the bulk generic brands from a wholesalers. The staff know their wine as well. I have no problem coming in here, telling the guy what I'm looking for and be confident that what I get will be what I asked for. They also have a wide price range so all pockets are catered for, and will give just as much time to someone spending a £5 as they would to someone spending £50. read more

Gapwines is one of many businesses in Belfast that I am scared to go into, for fear of having to explain to Mrs M as to why I have blown a month's wages in one afternoon. The owner, Peter, is an amicable man who is truly knowledgeable about booze, in all its weird and wonderful varieties. Upon calling in one afternoon to buy a good bottle of rioja to have with dinner, I left with six bottles of differing varieties and no money in my wallet. A dangerously friendly and convincing guy who could sell ice to eskimos. If you happen to be looking for a weird and wonderful beer or liqueur, send him an email - peter@gapwines.com - and he'll get back to you promptly. If they don't have it, I bet you they'll find it for you in no time. It's in a bit of an awkward position with not much parking - right on the Antrim Road - so don't be wine shopping during school run times. However, Gapwines is fantastic. read more

This isn't just your normal local "offy". It specialises in fine wines and speciality beers and spirits. The staff in this business know their wines, I can tell you. I remember having a glass of something lovely in a restaurant once, and I could only partially remember the name of it, but through a description of the taste etc, they were able to figure out what wine it was and they ordered it in for me at no extra expense! That's service for you. The place is clean and bright, and they always keep a good selection of white wine chilled, unlike most other off-licenses. They have a wine club too with special events and offers for their members. Nothing is too much trouble for them; they are obliging and knowledgeable - even if you are only coming in to buy a mixer. Other business could learn a lot from this establishment. read more

Certainly one of the best beer/wine/whiskey stores in the Belfast area. I'd long used The Vineyard for my craft beer fix (and the occasional flutter of red wine and single malt) but the range had basically stayed the same over a period of a year or so. I then found out about this little gem outside the city and thought I'd give it a try. Gapwines is a modestly sized little store which comprises a dense range of whiskies and spirits, a spattering of wine and a fridge and shelving area of beer. The range is always changing and it's one of the things I admire about the store. They're always fantastically efficient at getting in some of the best seasonal beers, Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout for example. The prices are solid, significantly less than some of the other offies around the city. It's full of friendly staff who are more than helpful, I've also been at one of their beer tasting nights which was brilliant. read more

A great wine merchant and well worth a drive out to no matter where you are in the city. Really helpful staff and a varied selection of wine on offer to suit all budgets. If you've only £6 or £7 to spend on a bottle, it's much nicer to come here and choose something interesting than to keep buying the same old plonk from the supermarket. read more
