The turkey wings with rice and gravy were good. The fried whiting was really good. Cabbage and collard greens were tasty too.

I ordered through DoorDash and went with the turkey wing with macaroni and cheese along with the oxtails. I also chose cornbread as my bread option. The turkey wing and mac and cheese were solid. My only feedback is I wish it were more clear what came with rice and gravy. I ended up with double rice because I did not realize the oxtails already came on a bed of rice. The oxtails were a decent size but there were only two pieces and both were mostly fat. The flavor overall was okay. It was not bad at all but it did not completely blow me away either. The cornbread was the biggest disappointment. It came wrapped in foil and was both burnt and soggy at the same time. It was so overcooked that someone had to have seen it was not up to standard and still decided to cut it and serve it. For a place that prides itself on being a homemade style restaurant, that was surprising. Even with that, I would still try them again. It was a Sunday so maybe I just caught them on an off day. The food was filling and I can see why people talk about them. I am willing to give them another shot.

They have a hot bar set up buffet style when you first walk in. You are supposed to grab a container off the top shelf, pick a meat and some sides, and then they will charge you a price. They keep the premium proteins like oxtails and turkey wings in the back. I ordered mac, greens, and oxtails over rice and gravy. I also got their peach cobbler. Everything tasted amazing. This food is unmatched.

You get a lot of food for the money, we tried the fried catfish plates, for sides we had candied yams, macaroni, collard greens, fried cabbage, and potato salad. We tried hush puppies and cornbread, and banana pudding for dessert. The fried catfish portion is generous and seasoned well, we had ours with tartar sauce and hot sauce. It was extremely fresh and piping hot. The sides were all great and I look forward to trying more, the collards and potato salad were our favorites! The banana pudding is sweet and they use some sort of cake type dessert instead of vanilla wafers, it's very good! Service is great, it was our first time and we were a little lost. They have a cashier and an ordering kiosk, plenty of room and nice tables to dine in which I appreciate. Staff was friendly! Can't wait to try more of their meals!

Don't even worry about going up to get your food when they call your name, once they see you acknowledge them they bring it to you with a smile and they lay it all out for you. SUPERB. I had the Catfish Nuggets senior combo w/ Potato Salad and the Black Eyes Peas on rice. SO DARN GOOD! I tried my colleagues brisket and the flavor was smokey and delicious. The portions are more than fair, believe me you will probably end up taking stuff to-go unless you have an army of hungry folks with you. Thank you so much for the amazing Customer Service to the Ray's Southern Foods team. You absolutely delivered on all aspects and you earned my five star rating.

I literally searched Black-owned restaurants in the area/going toward home. I was leaving commencement downtown and wanted to get something to eat. Walking in, there is a lot of open space and I needed to take the time to read their signage to see what I needed to do. They ask that you not be on your phone while in line. They have their menu posted and some chalkboards with other menu items at the start of the line. There is so much to choose from and everything looks fresh. The woman taking my order was helpful and kind. I was almost overwhelmed, but decided on the smothered porkchop with rice, candied yams, dressing, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, and a sweet tea/lemonade to drink. I paid roughly $40 after adding the tip. I sat down to eat and enjoy my food. They were playing 90s R&B and it wasn't too loud so you couldn't hear yourself think. It was at an enjoyable volume that you could sing the words in your head and still talk to people at your table. The food tasted amazing. I was not able to finish it all and was ready for a nap after eating. Everything was flavorful. I LOVED seeing so many young people working in this establishment. Everyone I encountered was a young adult; even the young men working in the kitchen who made brief appearances at the front were young adults. They were all so professional and polite. You don't always get that, but that was my experience. I have already talked about this restaurant with my friends and family and we will make a trip back soon.

I guess they sat the phone down and forgot about it. Then when you go to the restaurant and let them know. They just shrugged their shoulders and say oh we're busy. Not, oh let me take your order or how can we fix this!?! I've essentially held online for 40 minutes and then I am expected to stand in line an additional 1+ hours to get food. There are 5 to 6 people standing behind the counter doing nothing. Their process is flawed. I know there's a more efficient way to do things here. Don't go if you don't have the time to spend an hour plus waiting for food.

We parked behind the building and a woman who worked there had the door open. She had on a shirt that read Legalize being Black. My husband had on a Black Lives Matter shirt, & I had on a Juneteenth shirt. She smiled and raised her fist at us as we asked to enter through the door and we responded in kind. I love us! She toke U.S. to grab a menu as we walked in to the right of the bar. We found a high top and found what we wanted and went to the counter to order. The prices are reasonable until you get to adding the sides. I overheard another worker tell a couple who ordered after us to order the veggie plate if they were getting 4 sides as it was cheaper. I wish the person who took our order had told use that. The entrees are à la carte and priced reasonably. The sides are $5 each with a few exceptions, a hoecake is $2 and mac & cheese and a couple other sides are $6. Keep that in mind when you come. Our total for our inside dining with a can of ginger ale, fountain Diet Coke, & tip was like $70+ & the to go order for our son's meal w/o a drink was ~$30. It's definitely a good value if you only need an entree and have sides already. The food is good and has large pieces of meat & decent portions so there you go... I ordered the fried green tomatoes as a starter, smoked beef brisket with the barbecue sauce on the side, smoked turkey cabbage, dressing, & the lemon pound cake. Ironically, the fried green tomatoes came out last. They were piping hot though. They could've used a dash of salt but that cornmeal batter was perfection on the tomatoes. You get 3 and 1 was cut a little too thick and it was slightly mushy maybe cause it had to cook longer? But it was still good. The beef brisket was good. It's sliced thin and had that good smoke flavor and was seasoned well. The thicker slices could've been a bit more tender but overall it could rival some barbecue joints. The dressing was good and so was the cabbage, though it was almost tad bit saltier than I'd like. I'd order everything I had again. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed my food. You know not everyone who claims to cook southern food can do so. Oh the pound cake was good and moist. It reminds me of Sammy Chhesecake pound cake. My husband ordered the 3 pieces of fried chicken, collard greens & they do have a lil kick as the menu suggests, green beans, & yellow rice. He was pleasantly surprised with how big the pieces of chicken were. Nowadays people give you what looks like pigeon parts ‍. He said it was a tad salty. He said he also enjoyed his meal otherwise. I forgot to get pictures of the food for our son's takeout order of fried pork chops, collard greens, mac & cheese, & a hoecake. He liked his food as well but also said his pork chops, which were nice size center cut, were well seasoned, but a little too much. He enjoyed the meal and his 1st hoecake. They also do catering and seemed to have a large catering order being prepared to go out. The restaurant & woman's restroom was clean. The staff were friendly and quickly acknowledged us. The music was good but it would've been good to hear a mix of old school with the hip hop since it was Juneteenth. They have a full bar. The only thing I didn't like was Fox News & another conservative news channel on; at least not on JuneteenthZ a generic movie or TV show would've been better for me anyway. They had a steady stream of to go orders and in person dining. I guess we're just late to know about

The sweet potatoes and greens tasted like pure comfort food on a plate. The music was a little on the louder side, but it also gave the restaurant a fun, lively atmosphere. Overall, definitely a spot worth visiting if you want flavorful soul food and great hospitality.

The owner was in the building too and she was very kind and willing to engage about the history of her family's influence. I tried the turkey wing plate with the sausage and shrimp red rice along with the Lima beans. My spouse said the items seemed mixed matched but I felt like it was my prerogative to try the item I want so that's what I got. Everything was delicious. The red rice is a tad different than how my family typically makes it in flavor palette but I enjoyed it. Ours has a little less bite from the tomatoes which is probably just a difference in how much sugar is used to balance the savory. I have to also say, that turkey wing was very tender and the gravy was flavorful. How often is it we see a beautiful color to a tough and tasteless turkey wing??? Well done here. I'm interested in trying the steak plate and sides next time. A nice treat was them having Pepsi available. Can't wait to get back around for another try.

Once you place an order, they will text you once your food is ready, so you can chill in the car if you choose. There isn't a lot of seating in the restaurant. It took a while for my food to come out, so much so that I thought they forgot about me. As soon as walked back into the restaurant to remind them that it had been 30 mins since I ordered, I received a text that my food was ready. I ordered oxtail, Mac and cheese, and greens for myself. Turkey wings, yams, and green beans for someone else. All meals come with red rice. The food was good but they need to tone it down with the salt. It was so good that I ended up eating the other plate as well. The banana pudding was hands down, the best I've had thus far. It is pricey especially if you are feeding a family. I will be back to try other menu items.
