Big open fields, tall trees and picnic tables makes this place perfect for an afternoon in the sun. You can swim here but there are only a couple spots where you can access the water and they are a bit rocky. They have bathrooms here and there's a little trail that walks around one side of the reservoir. Sometimes I miss the turn from the main road but just remember when you're coming from Eugene it's right after Elijah Bristow State Park.

There are several trails of varying lengths around the marsh and streams running off the Willamette river. There are wheelchair accessible picnic areas and bathrooms. Some of the trails look even and compact enough for wheelchairs but we didn't venture down any this time. I would definitely come back here again for some trail walking, biking, fishing and wildlife watching. There are heron and turtle here.

Sadly the resevoir was shockingly low and what would have normally been nearby water views were limited. Our campsite had water and power and everything worked well for the entire stay. There are two dump stations near the entrance. When the park is full I suspect the dump station could get crowded. There are playgrounds for the kids in between the major campground areas. Restrooms and showers were decent. It's a well maintained campground especially for a public one.

Oregon Fish Reports says Ben Irving Reservoir has Rainbow Trout, Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, White Crappie. It is said they also have bluegill and yellow perch. I'm not sure they stock trout since the water gets so low. There are two day use sites. The first is a picnic area with restrooms, picnic tables, swimming and volleyball. The second is the largest, which is at the end of the road in, with a restrooms, boat ramp, dock, picnic tables, grills for and rest rooms. The reservoir is beautiful and peaceful place to go. It's scary how fast the water goes down once the rains stop. It's a reservoir where water from the area is held for irrigation and municipal uses and to enhance stream conditions to support fish in the streams. Galesville Reservoir is a beautiful water storage area near Azalea, Oregon. It is part of the Upper…read moreCow Creek Watershed and the reservoir is 640 acres. The dam produces electricity by hydropower for the area. The first turnoff is to the campground and the second to the Day Use area and boat ramps. The day use has parking, a playground, picnic area, and pavilion. The park host is near the day use area, as well as The Chief Miwaleta Campground provides cabins for rental, a tent camping and 20 full hookups and 11 non-hookups and 1 group site for RVs. There are two boat ramps (one with two lanes and one primitive ramp) with parking for the reservoir and is a popular area for fishing. Though, the reservoir has a higher-than-allowed level of mercury as described by the Clean Water Act. The cause may be several historic mining claims above the reservoir exist, such as the Red Cloud Mine, which was established to extract mercury from veins of cinnabar. There is information on and recommendations for eating fish on the Oregon.gov website. I do recommend going to the Galesville Reservoir, either for camping or just using the day use area. It's a beautiful place to spend the day or longer.

Eel Lake is in the William M.Tugman State Park. It is also the deepest lake in the chain of lakes along the Oregon Coast and is approximately 355 total acres. Wonderful fishing opportunities here with large mouth black bass, crappie, rainbow trout, steelhead, and co-ho salmon. Other water activities include swimming, canoeing, kyacking, sailing, and boating. There is also a 6 mile moderate trail ( Eel Lake Trail) that will take you along the beautiful Lake where you may encounter deers, and even be lucky enough to see an eagle. Enjoy !
