One of our nature stops while visiting family needed to be Singleton Park. This place isn't huge,…read moreso if somebody had already planned a company picnic or family reunion or something of the sorts, there isn't going to be a lot of spare space for others. That being said, this park, albeit somewhat primitive (just not fancy), is really nice. The grounds keepers do a nice job keeping up with the mowing and pruning. The path on the far side of the park leads down to the water and gives you a great vantage point of where the North and South Umpqua rivers run together prior to becoming the Umpqua and heading out to the pacific ocean. The setting here provided for some nice back drops for some pictures with family. Unless you are planning a picnic or something your trip here probably won't take exceptionally long, but it's well worth the few minute drive to get here and check it out.

Whether a person wants to explore nature, have a picnic, or play games with the kids, Micelli Park has something for people to enjoy. This park is a nice addition to a sketchy part of town.

A lot of of the animals roam free, but then some of them like the elephants, giraffes, big cats, etc. are in enclosures. But they do have a good amount of room in their enclosures. This place is an accredited zoo, so they have standards that they have to follow. Some of the animals were a bit farther away, some come right up to your car. Especially in the area where you are allowed to feed the animals. I didn't buy a feed cup, but quite a few of them were still walking up to my car,, hoping that I had food. Sorry guys... it's just so much fun seeing the animals up close. Normal drive-through time is an hour to an hour and a half, but depending on how many times you stop, and how many cars are in the park, it could definitely be more. It's all up to you. If there are a lot of cars stopped for a specific animal, you can take a picture, and then go around the cars that are stopped. There's plenty of room to do so. In addition to the drive-through, they also have Safari village, which has more animals, a train ride, animal shows, restaurants, and snack bars, even a playground for the kids. It was $29.95 for adults, less for kids and seniors. If you are military/veterans/1st responder, you get the best discount. Free! I thought that was very generous of them. Thanks for the great visit. I will be back the next time I'm passing through.

We stayed across the street at the RV park and walked over only to turn around because we had our…read moredogs with us and lo and behold there was a big red sign that said "NO DOGS IN PARK BETWEEN MAY 15-NOVEMBER 15" idk what is up with that but we had to take our doggies back to our trailer. So we took a drive through the park the next day on our way back from town and it is a beautiful park, it sits on the banks of the North Umpqua River which is a very nice river. This was a free fishing weekend in Oregon so it was a popular place to be. Too busy for us to even drop a line in. Maybe next time we are passing through it won't be during the restrictive months and our dogs can enjoy this really pretty park. I'm sure it is because there are people out there who don't have dog etiquette and don't clean up after their pets which is too bad for the rest. Nice park though well kept and it has a boat launch, group picnic areas that you can reserve as there were reserved signs up.

There is a parking area with a bit of grass for dogs and kids to stretch their legs. There was one person in a truck backed in the shade and another in a parking spot having a sandwich while his dog enjoyed the grass. There is, also, boat launch which is available during the rainy season, I'm told, but right now the river is so low that there is no river at the end of the boat ramp right now at the start of September. The gentleman down there said that the river was the lowest he's seen (and he grew up here) this summer because of the drought brought on by global warming. Harold and Sid Nichols Park and Boat Ramp was constructed with funds from the City of Winston, the State Marine Board, and the Department of Fish & Wildlife using Federal Sport Fish Restoration Funds. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Winston. This project would not have been possible without the additional support of the Umpqua Fishermen's Association and the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians. I appreciate the city for keeping up this wonderful place to be by the river so close to the city.

Fall Creek Falls- AMAZING!!!…read more I love this place! The hike to the Falls is beautiful with plenty of things to explore, and is not all that far. When I got to the Falls there was a family there that was just leaving and I wound up having that entire area to myself for about 45 minutes. I spent more than half of the time meditating directly under and right next to the falls, make sure you bring a bathing suit so that you can really get in there and sit under the water. It was by far one of the most energizing waters I've ever had the pleasure of being in, it was alive, electric and conscious and really gave me the mental, spiritual, physical recharge that I had needed for so long. I don't think you can truly understand until you go there yourself and get under that water for some time. You have no idea. Much love to Fall Creek Falls and the beautiful drive getting there.
