Discovery Garden, Roseburg, OR - October 2, 2024…read more We were staying at the Twin Rivers RV Park and walked across the street to Discovery Garden where we took in the beautiful garden area. The gardens have a peaceful tranquil feel to them. You're essentially in the middle of wide open space with no traffic noise. The garden areas include roses, azaleas, dahlias, various plants, a Japanese garden, children's garden, and much more. Depending on the time of year you visit, different plants are in bloom. This time in early October, we got to see some roses and lots of dahlias. We also went to the Victory Garden, just across from the Discovery Garden, where they grow fruits and vegetables. Every Tuesday, they harvest whatever might be ready and take it to the local food closet. Residents in the area are also encouraged to bring their own crops to the Victory Garden to have them delivered to the food closet. We were allowed to take some samples from the Victory Garden. We got a Roma tomato and a small green pepper. Can't wait to sample them!

The garden is organized into themed sections with pathways to follow to take you through the different garden areas. There is the Japanese Garden, the Butterfly Garden, the Children's Garden, and the Rose Garden, to name a few. Each visit is a little different, depending on the time of year and what is in bloom. On this visit, I was amazed by all the different dahlias, the beautiful roses, and the whimsical rock garden populated by gnomes.

Singleton Park is overshadowed by the much larger River Forks Park, which is located just across…read morethe river. However this park has its own charms of which people should be made aware. Unlike River Forks Park, Singleton doesn't draw huge crowds. In fact, many locals aren't aware of this little gem. The park has a nice, very clean, pavilion that overlooks the tail end of the North Umpqua River before it collides with the South Umpqua River to form the Mighty Umpqua. The pavilion is perfect for picnics or large gatherings (baby showers, family reunions, etc.). It can easily hold 50 people. The pavilion has a fire place electric power, running water, and is wheel chair accessible. There are plenty of other amenities throughout the park too. A kiddie swing set with a slide, a tetherball pole, two hand swings (small and large), and duel volleyball courts. Picnic tables and grills are also peppered throughout the park. A huge advantage Singleton Park has is its trees. They are clustered together and tower above the grounds providing shade to the park and its pavilion; not to mention the natural beauty they create. So we took a drive through the park the next day on our way back from town and it is a beautiful park, it sits on the banks of the North Umpqua River which is a very nice river. This was a free fishing weekend in Oregon so it was a popular place to be. Too busy for us to even drop a line in. Maybe next time we are passing through it won't be during the restrictive months and our dogs can enjoy this really pretty park. I'm sure it is because there are people out there who don't have dog etiquette and don't clean up after their pets which is too bad for the rest. The people of Roseburg are so nice! Lots of retired people and families with kids who are very involved raised over 2.8 million dollars to build this brand new facility for tennis lovers. This facility really adds to the attractiveness of Roseburg OR. Recently a costco and other big businesses have moved in, but the house prices are still low for what you get. What a place for families and for retired people to live. This facility really adds something to Roseburg. I think more and more people will move here and the value of property will rise because of all this growth, which this new facility is certianly a big part of. The rafting itself was amazing with a variety of rapids and scenery. We saw a lot of wildlife around the lodges and during rafting. Our guides made great lunches which we devoured at gorgeous locations along the river banks. The front desk staff that helped with our reservations as well as pre and post trip lodge accommodation at Morrions lodge were nice. Shout out to Lisa for everything she did to make our experience memorable. Highly recommend the rafting as well as the morrison lodge. We will be back soon

My wife and I, along with my 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter had the BEST TIME EVER. The Rafting was great. The service at the resort was a 10+. The food was even better and we will definitely be back to stay 6 nights next time.
