Remembering this place from my childhood, I wanted to bring my gf here to show her one of my childhood memories. Running a little late, we got in here as the sun was starting to set. We had a pretty great sunset over the Umpqua from the shoreline of the park.
The park itself, we really didn't get to see, but, aside from some construction/renovations that were underway, this place looked the same as it did 20 years ago.
Historically this place is/has been a great pace for company picnics, school outings and weddings. As you first enter the park on the left is the drop off spot (for the vehicle you need when you finish floating the North Umpqua). It should be noted that the spot where you get out of the water (when floating) is the last place you should get in the water. Just a few yards downstream the North and South Umpqua Rivers meet and form one river that runs out to the Pacific. In the area where the park is, there are dangerous under toes, that make swimming very risky, even for the best of swimmers.
Plenty of areas in the actual park for kids to play as well as places to play Frisbee or Football/Soccer. Plenty of room without feeling like you're right on top of the other people that are out there. If you're here and wanting a relaxing place for a picnic, this is the spot you should consider. read more
