The ground are well-kept and have statues carved from wood around the site - Rocky (from Bullwinkle, not the boxer ); Abraham Lincoln; and a rooster on top of a pig on top of a horse - not kidding. Oh, and there are real roosters and hens walking around. Super cool! The sites are gravel and level with fire rings. While the campground is very quiet, there is interstate noise at night - be aware. Also, there seems to be a waste water treatment facility nearby - the occasional funk is not so amazing. Great for an overnight stay or a long weekend away with the kids, especially once the pool opens back up.

It is easy to get in and get out, and just a short, straight shot down Broadway from the Interstate. The town of Mt. Vernon is small, but it has everything you may need while living on the road - Walmart, dining (fast food, diners, and steakhouses) and even a couple of "travel plazas". We even availed ourselves of a Freightliner Oasis shop for some regular maintenance work while we were here. And this is all within a couple miles of the park. The have cabins (if you need to "spread out") and even a couple of retro trailers for rent. And they take credit-cards. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the "lounge" area in the office quaint and comfortable, and the hookups (water, sewer, electric- all the way up to 50-amp) were all very well maintained. The free WiFi was excellent - as good as any place I've stayed (but, hey - the get dodgy now-and-again) - and I was able to work on my computer (I work remotely) most of the time. Great cellular reception when that was needed. A nice playground for the kids and a big enclosed dog area, in my opinion, rounds out all the "must-haves" for a good, solid, comfortable stay. This "year-round" park does have one quirk - it is the only park I have ever seen where the sites are "head-to-toe"; you share the utility hookup area (you each get your own hookups) with one neighbor, and you share the "yard" and picnic table (yes - they all have picnic tables) with the other neighbor. This was not as bad as you might expect, since most folks came in late in the day and left early the next. All things considered, we definitely recommend this as a place to regenerate while on a long haul through the area. We have family in the state, so I know we will.

We came here for just one night as we are on our way to Memphis…read more It's a bit off the highway to get back into here, but the roads were safe enough. They were super friendly at check-in and even offered chocolate chip cookies, which is a first. They also had popcorn. There is also Fatso's pizza place that is part of the front office and they give you a menu upon check-in. We were assigned to site two, which had a beautiful Lake view and was on the end so we had fairly unobstructed views of the lake. There's plenty of green space in this park and they had Disc golf as well as a pretty nice playground for the kids. The sites are fairly close together and there are 60 total sites in the campground, so seem like they had plenty of room. There are a lot of different site types that you can reserve, including one that is completely paved with some patio furniture. They also have cabins to rent if you don't have a camper. Loved all the shade trees too. We did not use the public showers or restroom so I cannot comment on that. With a good Sam discount, this place was $53 per night. Make sure to try the pizza, we ordered a small one just for a snack and it was fantastic! Make sure to ask them to make the cross extra crispy if you like it that way. All the utilities worked fine although I will say, even with our filter, the water had a little bit of an odor to it. Not sure what that was all about. There are plenty of restaurants and shops within about a mile of this place as well.

He cut a limb from the tree in our yard for 1 of the boys and all of a sudden a man filming him with a phone started walking towards us yelling at him. This was one of the camp host.My husband explained what he was doing and the man continued to film in in front of all the children and yell about the stick he pulled from the tree. My husband apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. About an hour later about an hour later the refugee police pulled up and said that the man had called him grumbling about the tree. We were ticked and fined. I have read other reviews on the FB website where people have written about this particular camp host.
