While I have nothing "Bad" or "Negative" to say about this hotel, I do want to point out some…read morethings that have been really frustrating / aggravating for me. In addition, I will also point out some of the not so frustrating / aggravating things about this place. Overall, I think it is a good place, but some things really need to be addressed. I have stayed at this hotel a total of five times now. The first two times were over the top great. However; the last three times is where the frustration / aggravation has come into play. Let's start with three visits ago. I made my reservation for my stay about 6 weeks in advance. I called the Hotel directly, spoke with on duty staff, who were very friendly and helpful. No issues arose, the reservation was made quickly and I felt like all was set. Well I arrived to the hotel on my scheduled date to be told that no reservation was made under my name. Finally (After about 5-6 minutes) a reservation was found. However, not in my name, although my phone number was attached to the name. It became clear that when the reservation was put in, it was messed up somehow. Okay so no big deal, things happen. I got checked in and all was fine. Now two visits ago. Again, I made the reservation well in advance with no issues on the phone. Again, staff was very friendly and helpful. Well again, I arrived on the scheduled date and again, they could not find my reservation. Found me in the system but it was my previous visit. So, with no reservation (According to their system) they just checked me in as a new guest just arriving, thankfully they had vacancies. The room was clean, but did notice that the remote on the TV had dead batteries, could not change the channel. Kind of no biggie as I only use the TV for background noise. So, I just manually turned it on and let it be. So now here we are for my most recent visit. SAME EXACT ISSUE!! I arrive and they have no clue who I am. They tell me no reservation was ever made, when in fact a reservation was made. 8 whole weeks (2 months) in advance. I even had my confirmation # this time. Even with that they could not find it!!! They look and look and insist there is no reservation in the system for me. Well here we go again. So, they end up checking me in as a new guest. I am happy to get a room but I am really irritated by this point. I head off to my room and get all set up. Well, unfortunately the frustration / aggravation does not end there this time. The room was clean, but did notice when I picked up the phone to call front desk that the phone was dead. I checked the cord to the wall, it was connected but nothing. Well who uses the phone anyway these days I thought, so I just ended up going down to the desk to ask my question. So, it gets dark, settling in for the night, when suddenly there is a group (4-5 people) standing outside of my door laughing and talking loudly. I though well can't last long, well I was wrong, a whole hour later they are still out there, now there are kids running and screaming in the hallway outside of my room. Well cannot call front desk as the phone don't work. So, I opened the door and asked them politely to keep it down. I got a look of disgust but they cleared the area. Slept through the night, all was good. Here we are at the next day. I leave the hotel, go do all my running around that I needed to do. Come back to the room, my key card will not work?? I try and try, it just won't work, so I got to front desk, they reprogram it, it works. I was there for 6 days in total, I had to get it reprogrammed EVERYDAY I was there. Come to find out on the last day, they looked it up and said it keeps happening because I was only supposed to be there one night and the card kept shutting off because the system thinks I am checked out. #1, why did they have it that I was only there for a night when I informed then upon check in it would be 6 days? Secondly why did it take until the 6th day for them to figure this out? Could they have not looked into this at least the 2nd day that this happened? Despite this all I can say I like the hotel. These things really just need to be dealt with as it is extremely frustrating. I don't want to have to deal with all of these issues every time I need to be in the area. In closing, I will point out that there are great / positive things about tis hotel as well. Those are as follows: 1. Price. Best priced hotel I could find there in Salem. 2. Clean. Although the place is dated, it does seem to be pretty clean. 3. Friendly staff. They are professional and always try to help with any situation that arises. I hope that Managers of this hotel can see this and try to figure out some of those issues. I do like staying here but I cannot deal with these frustrating factors. It is for sure worth it for me to pay a little more to say elsewhere, where these things are not an issue.

This Super 8 sits adjacent to a gas station just off of the main strip. One is able to see it as…read morethey are exiting the freeway. It appears as if it has been around for a while, it is not a new facility, but it is not necessarily in utter disrepair, either. My check-in was absolutely effortless. Because I had arranged everything in advance, I was able to walk in and the nice attendant already had my room key ready, and the paperwork to fill out and sign. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised and relieved. The room I was in was on the freeway side of the hotel and was a little darker than usual. I am not hard to please, so this did not bother me, but if you prefer a higher room, specify this when you make your reservation. Or ask at the desk when you arrive. I am pretty certain they will accommodate you. The wifi is free, provided by EthoStream. You will want to surf a page other than your homepage or Google to force the Super8 connection page to come up. The speeds for this wifi are relatively good and remained solid for my stay. The bed is comfortable and felt relatively new, as it had firmness. This room was clean, but you will want to be aware that the first floor descends progressively below ground, so the back portion of the hotel that I was in was about 6 feet below the ground level of the parking area. The room has a fridge and microwave, along with a tub and self-contained bath area. There was water remaining on the desk area that we had to clean up, and had soaked through the brochures that had been left for our perusal. That was about the only negative of our stay. We ate at the local Subway that night, but all in all, it was very quiet and pleasant. We did not see housekeeping at any time and checkout for us pretty much resulted in leaving our room key on the front desk, where the remnants of breakfast were being cleaned up. If you want breakfast at the hotel, you will want to be there by 9 AM. This is a good hotel to stay and is a baseline for hotel stays. Any less, you will be disappointed, any more you will be excited.

Found this place in a travel guide book and thought we'd give it a shot. Called to book and $49…read moreafter taxes seemed alright. The male clerk who booked me was very friendly. Upon arrival we noticed the sign was lit up and looked kitschy and fun. One of the rooms had a pumpkin outside of it's door and appeared that someone lived there. Go inside of the lobby to check in and it was pretty dark, it was around 6:30p and there were no lights on. The lobby was full of lampshades, mattresses and other junk. All of this obscured the view of the fish tank that had water in it, but didn't appear to have any fish in it. The lobby also smelled really bad, possibly from the stagnant and old fish tank water. Several minutes passed before the female clerk came out and made it clear we were disturbing her. She hastily checked us in with an attitude and made it clear that she didn't give a damn. We enter the room and are a little scared after seeing the lobby. The room is so old and dated. At best the furniture is from the 70's, but appears to be from the 60's. Every piece of furniture was long since warn and needed to be refinished in the 80's. Being worried about bed bugs we tore the bed apart to find what appeared to be a pee stain on the mattress and a poop or blood stain on the opposite side. The mattress appeared to be bug free, but there were some questionable stains on the box spring, wall, and headboard. We decided to sleep reversed, with our heads facing away from the headboard. The mattress was old and spent, and had to be 10+ years old. The pillows were just awful and did nothing, it was like laying your head straight on the mattress. The walls are thin and you can hear every word that is said outside or in connected rooms. Lots of highway noise and constant train whistles coupled with the awful bed and pillow combo made it very hard to get comfortable and fall asleep. Was woken very abruptly after falling asleep to the loud whistling of the piping of the shower in the next room. It is very LOUD. Was woken several more times to people talking in the parking lot at what felt like was right outside of our door. The location seemed very shady and we were worried about our car, especially with the out of state plates. The bathroom is tiny. Just a toilet and shower, no tub. It is so small I had to keep the door open while going to the bathroom. The shower head was about a foot lower than I am tall, and I am short at 5'6". There was one face cloth that had either a poop or blood stain on it. Gross! All in all the place was uncomfortable and old. The rooms need a major update. They seem to clean ok, but there were stains everywhere and the bed and pillows need replacing. Would not stay there again!

Stayed here over 4th of July weekend. Rooms still have METAL KEYS!!! (so cool!)…read more We stayed here because we were visiting friends in the area and didn't have the need for a lot of features I would not use. Wi-fi was spotty, but the cable worked well. It was a tube television with an adapter. Air conditioning worked well. Beds need a little update. Overall, would stay again for the price.
