First day of comedy camp
Brett J.

I was looking for a camp for my son and thought I had found it... instead I found an experience! Here in this little gem of a theater they hold a life building workshop for kids and they call it a camp of improv. I tell you now... this is no camp! It is a building block of relationships, fast thinking, reacting, emotional growth, and camaraderie! My son loved the camp, the teachers, and the theater. For a week he was enthralled... excited and couldn't wait to go. I have to admit the first day I dropped him off I was a bit worried... the theater is a bit sketchy, the area is a bit iffy, and the program director was almost to nice! But honestly... it is wonderful! Kristin the leader of this camp is just awesome! She is for real... and this is the real deal. Unlike any camp I have sent my son to before... and glad for it! At the end the whole troup puts on a show, they also did a 7 min movie they previewed for us all, and a bit of improv live and in person. It was hilarious! I wish I had known how good this was going to be... I would have signed him up for every week they had. I can't tell you how great this was... if your looking for something different... exciting... with a bit of life tossed in... and a healthy dose of fun... well here it is! Try this out! You won't regret it.

Can anyone recommend a show other than the Saturday morning Story Starts that would be suitable for a 12 year old?

Scoped out the venue which was bigger than anticipated and really enjoyed the fish tank TVs. So fun! The show was entertaining and up to date with references all relevant to the current times. Everyone on stage was great and their chemistry can be seen. The audience was laughing 99% of the time and the show went back fast! I'd totally go back for a local Austin night out with good laughs.

They do a mix of comedy, magic, music , and just overall great entrainment for their shows. It's mainly themed around local and world politics + the LGBTQ community. Tickets are approximately $40. The show is about 90 minutes, with a 5 min break halfway through. They have a bar on site, and a taqueria that's connected to their building as well. Highly recommend the taqueria, it's authentic and delicious! Absolutely recommend for locals, visitors, and those who just want to enjoy a great show in the best city in the country!

Parking: Awful, gotta roll the dice on the neighborhoods nearby. Thankfully not too many blocked off streets. Almost like a hidden secret of South Austin! We went with a group of 13 guys, half in Ren Faire costume, for their monthly night market evening. You're welcomed at the door by a very enthusiastic orc and should come prepared to show ID. Check-in was seamless with their emailed order. The venue itself is small and could practically be someone's home. Karaoke was an offshoot room that fit only about 10 people. It's a lot more spacious in the back than it seems, opening up to plenty of seating where groups were seen chatting or playing tabletop games. There weren't many vendors but a great wizard was there giving away little fortunes that was very wholesome. Overall, great spot for a date or for one of their themed nights. I'd definitely come back with a group.

He does a family friendly show so there were a lot of people there with kids, Full families, moms, dads, grandparents. We were one of the few without kids. The staff was very friendly at the entrance, the bar, and when seating. The place is pretty big and has upstairs and downstairs seating as well as a bar on several levels. Two points that did bring the visit a little down. The seating, you are packed in like sardines. No room to stretch even a little, you bump against the stranger next to you or them into you. It is almost worse then an airplane. Two no handrails on several stairs which are also uneven. I have some ongoing spine and foot pain and it caused me issues but I saw several other people struggling and one almost falling themselves. Had it been just me or maybe one other person that would be bad enough but as several people struggled that is a huge safety issue and should be fixed. The ushers helped when they could but sometimes they were helping others and didn't see it happen. Still it was a fun time, if a bit cramped. The staff is great and I love the history but that also means it is very outdated and not very comfy to sit for an hour or more, especially with no intermission.
