If you like people, this is the spot for you! There's a whole myriad of them scattered all over…read morethe place. All ages, all sizes! If you want to have no parking, yep, come on down. This is THEE hub. Because of the egregious amount of people, expect to park far as hell from the complex. Even better, use your phone flashlight to illuminate your walkway because there only a few street lamps. Perhaps this is why, even in the crosswalk, you too can have an invigorating rush as your life flashes before your eyes in the stark headlights of a metro bus who never heard of a brake! Finally, enjoy the amenities in the aquatic center two informational desks down in a basement where lockers require $1.00 in coins. Quarters to be exact! Because why not! You've paid for a membership and/or a class, why not pay for the nostalgia of loose change! Who needs the year 2026?! Extroverts, this is the spot. Introverts, you will feel overwhelmed and wonder what fresh hell did you step in, probably try to power through until the pesky locker thwarts all defenses. You'll throw your hands up and peace tf out and say to yourself, yep I shall stick to the aquatic centers only. More manageable.

The fitness center is suitable for all levels. Equipment is well taken care of and has a great variety of equipment. There's two levels of workout space. The top floor has a walking track and many cardio machines. There's cubbies to store your things, if not, locker rooms are available as well. If you're shy like me, you'll enjoy this facility. Even on the weekends it wasn't too busy. Also there's plenty of space to workout with no one near you. The pool is nice! Great for children, it has a slide and waterfall. The hot tub is warm and clean. -Day pass is $5. Memberships are $20. -There's a cafe on the main floor. -Plenty of parking. -Staff is very friendly. -There's a gymnastics studio and a track where local students practice. I'm excited to try one of their fitness classes. I hope you enjoy.

I joined a class through Class Pass two years ago, and quickly decided that this studio was the right fit for me. The instructors are warm and friendly, the environment is judgment-free and unpretentious, and the dances range from simple to complex. Two years of dance later and I'm now a regular. I'm so much more coordinated than when I began, and I know most of the choreography (although I keep coming back because there are always new dances to learn!). Like any workout, you get out what you put in. Commit to moving and having a good time and you'll sweat through your clothes and feel it in your legs. Like any class, it can be overwhelming at first. Come to three classes (at least a Tuesday and Saturday breakdown) and you'll feel like a regular in no time. After 90 minutes of energetic, sassy, high cardio dancing, I leave every class with a rush of confidence and endorphins. DT has become a regular part of my routine and I would be lost without it!

I went the other day to see GW versus Howard and there's no ticket booth, you just walk in. The place is really small, maybe 1,500 seats max, and the seats are very close to the action, so you can see and hear everything -- coaches calling plays, players talking smack, etc. It was also 85 degrees, which was odd, but hey. There's a snack bar with the usual stuff if you're hungry, and a DJ played during timeouts. If you like college basketball or want something cheap to do, check it out. But keep in mind, it's not exactly a palace (it's a little dumpy to be honest.) I'm giving it 4 stars because it was fun, free, and has character.

I'm sure some other teams play here but we'll focus on hoops because that's why I've been here. It's not that bad a place to see a game. Really. Doesn't look or feel quite it's age, you can sit pretty much anywhere unless there's a larger than expected crowd for a game. The court feels like it's in a dish but the seats are so close you can see and feel the action. HU does a good job of building some hype with music and dance/cheerleaders. If you can park or take the metro and make the walk here, its a nice, underrated option of things to do in DC: Watch MEAC Basketball or Howard vs some reasonably-known team. I've been doing this for years and it's a nice way to spend a couple hours or so as a Basketball fan. Go at the right time and you can just walk in. It's free....In fact, they're happy to have anyone come in (It's like that for a good number of College Basketball programs during exams and the holidays). Go HU !

I joined this studio in 2021 to support a Black woman-owned business, but I can no longer attend…read moredue to severe safety, hygiene, and management issues. I waited until my membership ended to post this due to a documented pattern of retaliation by the owner. Safety & Environment: * Crime: Multiple cars have been stolen or broken into in the lot. The owner did not warn members and was dismissive when another member and I were personally threatened by a man on-site. * Privacy Violations: Members were filmed without consent for the owner's adult subscription site. It took multiple requests to remove the footage, and one member was temporarily banned for complaining. * Harassment: A member used racial slurs and made death threats toward others. The owner did not cancel their membership until that individual was caught stealing from the studio. Facility Maintenance: * Hygiene: Roaches have been observed on site and the owner failed to notify the community. * Equipment: Poles are poorly maintained--some sway, creak, or have cracks. Chrome-allergy risks are ignored as poles are moved without labels. The bathroom is often inoperable (clogged toilet/shower used for storage). Poor Management: * Communication: Benefits (like unlimited open sessions) were stripped mid-contract without notice, and members were penalized for using them. Different members are provided with different resolutions for the same issue. Many are provided with no resolution at all. She has switched the app used to provide studio updates 3 times within the past year and is adamant about her being the one to disseminate information through it, but not receptive to members trying to communicate with her through it. Despite switching the app 3 times she expects people to inconvenience themselves by downloading the app du jour each time and as an incentive offers benefits to members that use the most recent app, even though we all have the same membership contracts and pricing tiers. * Volatility: The owner frequently engages in disrespectful conflicts with students, staff, prospective staff, and guests. She has threatened to call the police on a member for simply raising a system issue. Supporting Black-owned businesses is important to me, but I cannot ignore the poor treatment Black women specifically have faced here. Many polers around the DMV started their journeys at this studio, because it's one of the oldest in the area. Many in the DMV pole community have left for the reasons I shared and more. Please do your research and ask around before signing a contract. I wish I had this information before starting a membership. I never would've signed up if I had known. The studio owner has publicly claimed that she's always seen as the villain and the only members that complain are those that don't get their way. But I think if she took the time to sit and reflect, listen to the community, and not approach every conversation defensively it would be a valuable experience.

For a while Colleen was the only Lyra instructor, but now they have Elixir and Lyra Bae as well. Each instructor's style varies and so do their difficulty level. With interest in Lyra still building up in the area, I think they'll have distinguished levels soon. I like to alternate between the Lyra instructors. What I love most about the studio is that it's very client/instructor centered. Schedules and class offerings are adjusted based on student interest and what the instructors want to teach. It really makes for a fun learning environment. Since joining I've gotten the opportunity to try many of their other classes, like Floor F@$?ery, Pole 1, Chair Playtime, etc. All the instructors are great at what they do and offer their own flair to each class. I have thoroughly enjoyed every instructor I've encountered. They really have me considering starting my pole journey! But I will say this: I hate their website but love the mobile app! Once you start at the studio, please download it bc it will make your life so much easier. There is also an online members only chat available. Their memberships are affordable and they constantly share specials and events on their IG.

Devina was so supportive and offered lots of information, suggestions, and interventions to help me reach my goal of having a vaginal delivery with limited medical interventions. She just truly cares about her work as a doula! She rushed to get to the hospital on time during a fairly quick labor and was so calming and encouraging, plus she took some of the sweetest pictures of us during our first snuggles with the baby! My husband felt very supported and at ease with her helping, especially during labor and delivery. Throughout pregnancy and labor, Devina was a perfect balance for me as a registered nurse who could communicate well with the hospital staff and bring both a medical and natural lens to each circumstance. I feel confident she would successfully support people to achieve whatever birth experience they hope for and I would absolutely use her as my doula again.

She's friendly and funny, which helps when she is walking through medical decisions, how to talk to doctors, how to talk to family, considerations and questions we have as first-time parents. She also makes herself available by phone and text when we have questions at random hours with baby. On top of all that, after our baby girl was born, she was able to follow up with us and help teach us a few tricks here and there as well as answer questions we had as things came up.
