Great for satisfying my sweet tooth. I just think they deserve more staff, usually it's only one person in there working the front and maybe back too at a time. I ordered ice cream for my kids and my 2 year old accidentally dropped his ice cream on the floor seconds after it was handed to us, he maybe had one bite. I had to throw it out since it fell all over on the floor. Of course he was noticeably upset and when I asked to get him another. I was asked to pay for it. This place is trash. (Perhaps has gone downhill in last few years.) From first look, it's unclean and a mess; tables and chairs somewhat strewn about, and behind the ice cream and smoothie counters, mayhem. ...A soon to be going out of business appearance or post-apocalyptic ransack; especially the smoothie counter, which looked non-operational. I proceeded to order a smoothie; the banana, strawberry, protein powder variety; simple. The one person working said "we don't have protein powder". I thought "this is going to be a ****-show, isnt it??" He looked in a small refrigerator under ice cream counter; said "no milk", however, I saw almond milk, so I tell him almond milk will work. Then I ask "do you have unsweetened almond milk?" He said "...no..." (pause, no, pause). I said "OK--it's OK". He began to make the smoothie; grabs a blender pitcher I thought he would first clean based on its filthy appearance (he didn't clean it; must be a "seasoned" pitcher), and proceeds to pump in liquid from two large bottles. Cold Stone creamery is a fun, unique experience. Instead of choosing from lots of pre-made flavors, you get to create your own unique mix. This is a popular spot--and for good reason. First, you select from a dozen or so 'base' ice cream flavors. Next, you select your topics (for example, brownie, almonds, peanut butter, peanut butter cups, and chocolate chunks among many others). These will be added to the ice cream and mixed for you, then served in a cup or cone. The result is a unique, tasty, and generous serving of ice cream. I docked a star for two reasons. First, they were out of ice cream cones when I came by. Personally, I strongly prefer to eat my ice cream from a cone rather than a cup, so for me that was a bit of a bummer. Second, the base flavors were few in number and not very flavorful. Once you add the other toppings, this is not very noticeable; however, there are other ice cream parlors in the area that serve overall better-quality ice cream. read more

It was fine. I ordered an ice cream cake online for my birthday two days in advance. I followed the form and didn't ask for anything that wasn't offered. The cake was ready on time, but was shoddily decorated (four peanut butter cup quarters arranged like compass points on the round cake with a whole cup plopped in the center) and was missing the fudge layer between the ice cream and cake that I had requested. I didn't say anything about the decorating because I didn't want to hang out in a tiny shop during a pandemic and there wasn't a whole lot they could have done by that point. The fudge layer wasn't discovered until after I'd cut the cake, which was well after closing and I really just wanted to eat my cake in peace. Oh, the "happy birthday" on the cake was also missing. The server who retrieved my cake asked "if there was supposed to be anything written" on the cake. Again, I didn't want to spend more time in the shop than I needed to, so I said "no" and left it alone. I am so happy DC finally have a Cold Stone again. It was just happenstance that I happened to be find it as I was next door at European Wax Center. The store is very spacious with a cool layout. There is also a planet smoothie inside. The sales associate was so friendly and nice. She greeted me warmly and immediately offered me a sample. She told me her favorite flavors and encouraged me to try them. I tried the Strawberry blonde after her recommendation. It was delicious. The best coldstone I've gotten ice cream from. They will get your order right reliably and take customer service seriously. The staff is friendly and generous. They ran out of bowls, free upgrade. They were feeling nice that day, extra extra brownies--often with a cute note attached. Nate/Nathaniel will hook you up. I don't know why he says both names whenever he introduces himself, but who am I to judge. I call him "Nate-slash-Nathaniel". I like it. I think it's artsy. I ordered a birthday cake online but there was no option on the website to have the name of the birthday person written on the cake. I was told when I called by the Cleveland Park Washington DC store to reply to the confirmation email I received to ask that the name be added. This email came from a "no reply" email address. The person at the store seemed uncertain that she could help me because she said that the cake might already be decorated and it was up to the manager who wasn't there. She would leave a note on the refrigerator but said that the cake may have already bee decorated. It is troubling that a cake would be prepared and decorated two days ahead. Wonder about its freshness. Also, I tried use Coldstone's designated link to give my opinion of my online ordering experience and the link did not work. This has been a totally unsatisfying experience both with the online ordering and with the Cleveland Park store's response. read more

To celebrate our wedding anniversary last month, I ordered and paid for a customized ice cream cake in person at their Cleveland Park location. When I arrived to pick up the cake on our anniversary, the cake was not made, so I was refunded my payment and we didn't have a cake for our special occasion. Despite this, I gave them a second chance and ordered and paid for a custom ice cream cake for my daughter's birthday. When I arrived to pick up the cake, no cake had been made again. I requested a refund and left without a cake for my daughter's birthday. Decide for yourself if this is a business that you would want to do business with for a special occasion. However, I can say that this store has consistently (both pre- and post-covid) had some of the worst service of any ice cream place I have been to. Basic ingredients are often unavailable, the payment system has issues, the incorrect orders, and wait times can be extremely long. This really goes beyond any particular employee, so I would say that whoever is managing this particular store really needs to step up. read more
