I dropped my 17-year-old daughter and her friend off here while I ran to Jewel. She placed an online pickup order since the store wasn't accepting Apple Pay. While waiting, the manager, Mike, approached them asking why they were there. She politely explained she was waiting for her order, but he remained unfriendly when handing it to her. When I picked them up, my daughter was extremely upset. I went inside to address it, Mike proceeded to inform me that he needed to check his cameras because they were standing near the cake refrigerator "snickering." I was very offended that he would imply they may have stolen something without actually seeing them do anything. He proceeded to tell me that my daughter was banned from the store. When I asked if my kids could taste-test a flavor before choosing, I was told they don't do taste tests for non-seasonal ice cream. We are pretty frequent regulars at this Cold Stone. On Friday May 8th around 7pm I went in to get ice cream $76 worth. I had the worst service ever going there. There was males working with his hair hanging out of his hat and he kept touching it. The employees sat there talking about personal things the whole 20ish minutes I was there. I ordered 7 different ice creams and they put all 6 big ones in one brown bag and told me to be careful you might want to care it from the bottom and then handed me the 7th. When I got home none of the lids where put on correctly and there was ice cream everywhere. I had to put it in different containers. Oh and while I ordered birthday cake remix the 1st boy making it told the other boy oh well have fun with that ice cream it is all melted. In the light of everything that is going on you would think that everything would run smoothly. When we went, this was before the looting and rioting happened, this was a week before Illinois was scheduled to open. At the time we pulled up an seen, young ladies coming to the door, of course we assumed we were to order on online. instead they wanted us to order by phone and pick up when they come out the door. As I approached the door and started to read, the young lady comes to the door and seen that I was a bit confused about the process. They young workers were incredibly antsy when they had to do their ACTUAL work instead of talking with friends and giving them freebies which was clearly unprofessional and odd given I couldn't even get a small sample. Cold Stone - Gotta Have It. Especially since it's only a few steps from Starbucks. Lotsa ice cream flavors and an obnoxious amount of different candy/chocolate choices to mix with your ice cream. The ice cream is pretty rich too, heavy, thick and weighty. Ice cream quality is determined by the amount of air that is in the mix, 1 pint of say... Godiva chocolate ice cream will weigh more than IDK, Breyers ice cream.That being said, Cold Stone has some pretty good quality ice cream. Prices... still a bit high, but like Gayety's this is a trendy type place so it's expected. They've got punch cards though... that's a nice little bonus I suppose. This particular store is always clean and tidy, the employees are friendly and keeping busy it seems. Someone's usually cleaning something, sweeping the floor or clearing tables. There are also a couple tables out front where you can enjoy your snack on those perfect spring or summer nights. The only issue I have is that parking can be a S.O.B. in summer, it's in a small mall off Route 30 and they share the building with like 6 other businesses. I really did like the ice cream here, but the management sucks! The owner, Mike, is super racist and ableist, calling his workers r-slurs, only hiring poc for "diversity reasons" (only to have them fired weeks later because he didn't think they would "make it past the trial period"). And then on top of that, I had a worker (young lady with glasses) yell at my friend because although we arrived together, we were paying separately, and she yelled at him and said "WE WORK AS A TEAM!" He didn't approve of that and it ruined his experience for the rest of our visit. So if you're willing to excuse the racism and ableism, then this is the place for you. I was overflowing, 1 was normal sized, and 2 were only 1/2 full Called when I got home to complain and was told the manager would call me back... she forgot so I was asked to take pictures and text them to the store and the owner, Mike would reach out the next day. After numerous phone sells yo the store - he finally called me back - accused me of trying to get free ice cream while comm no planning about his employees I tried to explain that I just wanted what I should had rec'd the 2 full love it sized treats kept ranting on and on and told me they needed to view their video to compare my order with the pictures I texted. 2 days later the manager called me to tell me that it looked as if we ate some if my ice cream and was trying to get free food. Horrible customer service from the female manager. I tried to use my $5 off coupon that was emailed to me from Coldstone. I put my phone number in the system for some reason it showed I had 49 points instead of 50. I asked the manager was it something she could do because she see the email. She told me no, because the store will loose $5 she was not friendly at all. As I was walking out because of her bad attitude, I heard her telling the workers I can't come back. So I turned around and asked why? She said that's the owners rule, which does not make sense, if you see the system has a glitch why not try to fix it instead of making it seem like I'm in the wrong.. I would've paid the $10, but the manager bad attitude and poor customer service made me leave. I would never go back to this location and hopefully you won't either! I will say I absolutely love the icecream here! Every flavor I have tried has been delicious and it's one of my fav go to spots for something sweet. I'm sure whatever you try you will not be disappointed. Also they have lots of mix-ins for your ice cream Unfortunately I am only giving it 3 stars because I can't say I've had the best service here. There have been times I have been skipped over in line even though I am in FRONT of the person behind/next to me. Also whenever I ordered some ice cream in containers to take to my family they always seem irritated. If I order 2-3 love it sizes to go I've seen them roll their eyes. We've been going to Cold Stone Creamery in Dyer for years. Servers always greet us even though they are usually busy. I like it that we can have a taste of the ice cream before purchasing. Again, servers were very willing to do that. We've never had a problem with our orders and the place is always clean. Nice to see the owner there sometimes training the new people. She's very patient. I have no complaints and will continue to visit. read more

And I was all prepared to write this place off as "trendy." That being said, the prices ARE pretty steep. I didn't get any mix-ins because I can do that at Dairy Belle in their best-ever soft serve.
