    My dishwater flavored soup

Do you ever think maybe you got the wrong thing on the menu? I have to wonder due to good reviews on Google and 1 here. It was a cold, rainy day. I have someone in hospital nearby and just wanted a warm bowl of soup. Yelp pointed me to this place. I almost didn't go in because it looks like a coffee shop, not a Chinese bistro. Nothing much else is around though. It was enter or go back to the hospital cafeteria (which isn't half bad, I just wanted a change of pace). Got the "duck broth" soup with noodles and won tons. You order at the counter and they bring it out. It should've been mildly spicy; couldn't taste spice one. More essentially, it tasted like dishwater. Without the soap. Not kidding. Strange tasting mystery meat in the won tons. Some weird "vegetable" that looked like spinach way overcooked and tasted awful. Determined, I added chili oil and soy sauce. Still pretty awful. A few more bites and I gave up. Went up to the counter and described my plight to the chef/ owner in more diplomatic terms. Guess what he did: Gave me another dish to try? Refunded my money? Nope. I trudged out, into the cold rain, dismayed, still hungry, and about $15 lighter.

The restaurant is clean and neat. The atmosphere is chill and laid back. Food is a little pricey but the food is amazing!

Best Chinese food in Baltimore for sure! Very authentic, clean and fresh. Recommend it highly

    Chongqing Noodles(pork) ((Spicy)

Inedible food. I ordered Chongqing noodles and pork, meijun pork buns, plum drink and the rose cake. Buns had a single meatball that tasted ok, but the noodles were just an oily, tasteless bowl of nothing. I can't recommend.

    Chef Lee's Spiced Pig Ear

Finally get to try this place after it moved from Rockville to Baltimore and glad to see it offers dine in as well as take-out. The only place in Maryland that offers crispy omelette pancake wrap! And it's so yummy! Feels like home in China. I also ordered tofu soup, spiced pig ear, famous steamed buns, braised spareribs, shrimp and pork chive dumplings, as well as house special combination fried rice. Everything is very good. Their steamed buns sell out fast so make sure you call before you go there. Will be back soon!

Chinese pancake was so bad and extremely overpriced. Soy milk is also overpriced and it is not cold.

I ordered delivery from Lao Sze Chuan a few months ago, but finally visited in person this past…read moreSaturday and had a very good meal. Lao Sze Chuan is a new-ish (open since January 2025) Sichuan restaurant that took over the space Busboys and Poets used to occupy. It's a huge space, but they did a great job renovating it, and it feels light and bright and modern - very comfortable. It's huge though - so I hope people know it's there and are ordering takeout/delivery or stopping by a for a meal in person! The service was very friendly and very fast, so it's a great spot for an in-person meal, too! Their menu is as large as the restaurant space, so there's something for everyone! They definitely have a lot of Sichuan dishes, but if you're not up for Sichuan, they have some other dishes that might fit the bill: dim sum (plenty of dumplings and buns), lo mein, fried rice, Peking duck, basil eggplant, Mongolian beef, and more... On Saturday at the restaurant, my husband and I shared a pot of white tea and a few dishes: crystal shrimp dumplings; pork soup dumplings; spicy tofu skin strips (shredded tofu skin tossed with Sichuan-style chili oil, peppercorns, and spices for a bold, numbing and spicy flavor); spicy and sour fish fillets (tender fish fillets simmered in a flavorful broth with pickled mustard greens, garlic, and Sichuan spices); a side of white rice for the fish; and red bean paste pumpkin cakes for dessert. When we ordered delivery in February, we shared: vegetable steamed dumplings; Yu-Shiang Eggplant Roll (tender eggplant braised and rolled in a traditional Sichuan Yu-Shiang sauce, offering a perfect balance of sweet, sour, savory, and spicy notes); crispy salty chicken (bite-sized chicken pieces deep-fried and seasoned with basil); salt & pepper pork chops (crispy fried pork chops tossed with onions and jalapeño peppers for a bold and savory flavor); and a side of white rice). I've enjoyed everything we've eaten (although I wouldn't recommend the crispy dishes for delivery for obvious reasons - I can't resist salt & pepper pork chops sometimes even though I know it doesn't travel the best), and I love how broad the menu is. I can't wait to return to try more of their dishes!

We sat there for 15 minutes after we were finished and I finally had to get up and ask the hostess if she could ask our waitress for to go containers. As for the food it was quite good. The dumplings in spicy chili oil were very good. The shrimp fried rice was fine, nothing too special. The general tsaos chicken was good. The dry fried green beans were very good and the lemon shrimp was decent.

The Rockefeller oysters were the best I have had yet... the spinach and cheese stuffing was absolutely delicious. The gorgeous weather played a major role in how electric the atmosphere was, and the outside patio was jubilant and filled with patrons. Now for me the raw oyster tower selection pushed my experience over the top. The oysters were fresh and chilled to perfection. And for the record, the menu is filled with a lot more tasty dishes than just oysters... so I encourage you on the next nice day ( over the spring & summer ) to stop by Mama's on the Half Shell for an experience that won't disappoint.

Good people watching--out the window to the folks outside below, but also into the kitchen just behind us. We observed a very well-run establishment. Several staff including the manager, who had a great sense of humor and kind-spiritedness, stopped by to check on us. We didnt end up ordering brunch since items on the other menus won us over very quixkly: the crab cake eggrolls (appetizer) and the crab grilled cheese (lunch). Being ambitious, we did ask the server to leave the menu behind, just in case. There was so much deliciousness to choose from But alas, we were satiated. To drink, we skipped the bottomless Mimosa and Bloody Mary and opted instead for a Blood Orange Margarita (which was more berry-like in color) and a Passion Fruit Mezcal Sour. Both were a tad sweet for our preference but very good otherwise. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
