I saw this park on one of the signs highlighting attractions at a particular exit on I-65. Being a…read morefan of history, I clicked my blinker and followed some rural roads to this particular location. Let me start by saying this place is not big, neither the grounds or the museum. But it is done nicely. Upon these grounds sat the only "old soldier's home" for Confederate soldiers and their widows in Alabama. Yhe tour in the museum is self guided, so you walk through yourself and see weapons, uniforms, etc. of a time in American history when brother raised arms against brother. There are also two Confederate graveyards by the property. A final thought. One part I found that personalized some of the men who resided in the "old soldiers home" was pictures of them as young soldiers accompanied by pictures of them as elderly men. Two different stages in the lives of these men.

As I was traveling we saw signs for this and decided it would be a fun place to stop. We didn't explore much but the museum was well done. It cost $7 for the two of us. Not bad and totally worth it. There is also a small gift shop area as you walk in the lobby and into the museum. I enjoyed looking at the different displays. Learning America's history is easy to do with places like this to help make it come alive. The cemetery reminds me of a very tiny Arlington. Well cared for and the headstones respected. Like I already mentioned the grounds are beautiful. Important info and Tip: sign states open sunrise to sunset. Museum takes card for payment. (Not all do ‍). Restrooms located outside museum around porch past main entrance.

They were welcoming, friendly, and took the time to describe the progress and findings of the dig. Such a memorable experience talking with them. Thank you!

This is great spot to see some of the pre-Columbian history in mound high glory. You can actually climb on a mound and then inside the museum you can learn a great deal more of the history and what was found inside some of the mounds... hint dead things and treasure. This site also clearly provides evidence of the pre-Columbian trade network that existed between Central America, South America and North America. Tip: Quick and easy tour that is well worth a diversion for the experience to learn and actually see some history that lots of folks today just don't seem to know about. Disclaimer: I might have an advanced degree in Anthropology and even though I have actually met Giorgio A. Tsoukalos of Ancient Aliens fame I can make a pretty strong argument that here in Moundville there definitely were NOT any aliens involved in the construction unless they were highly intoxicated aliens with only stone age tech.
