This was the best $5 I ever spent! This park is like a little Gatlinburg but in Alabama! Amazing things to see and do! The water was beautiful and the swimming areas are clean and fun for kids. The creamery doesn't allow pets inside ( i agree with that ) but when I joked with staff about having to leave my dog outside while I bought ice-cream they quickly offered her a Pup Cup of cream!! I was blown away! The open air train ride was fabulous! $1 per person one way or $2 round trip. They also allow your pet to ride with you!! The hiking trails were clearly marked and well maintained. I recommend bug spray as it is still very woodsy. The country store had essentials and souvenirs. We did not camp here due to the smaller camp sites and close proximity to other campers. We prefer the more open campground lay outs but would consider it during a less crowded season. The bath house was very clean! We plan to go back and attend trade days! read more

Tannehill is 1,500 acres of hiking, camping and outdoor recreation. There you'll find a miniature railroad real blacksmiths, millers and craftsmen demonstrating their trades, restored pioneer cabins, a cotton gin, pioneer farm and working gristmill. We enjoyed the hiking/ biking trails that retrace historic roadways. There are an immense number of artifacts of Alabama's 19th century iron industry displayed in the Iron and Steel Museum and throughout the entire property. A friend of mine and I took 6 boys to the woods Yesterday morning around 9 and banned electronics until our return around 4 today. They didn't complain once. There are ample full hook-up and primitive campsites. They don't take camp site reservations! The bathhouses are huge and far cleaner than most. The park rangers are a bit bored and apparently felt compelled to get on to our boys for riding bikes after dark in a well lit vacant parking lot and asked me to stop driving through the open roads Friday evening with the boys to see deer. Never run across this at any other state park and it's a pretty big flaw but we didn't let the park security guard ruin our time. The park itself is great I get that rules are there for a reason but bikes are the lifeblood of campsites and being told to stop riding in adequately lit areas and driving around to see wildlife in this beautiful environment shouldn't be against the rules. The craftsmen were extremely nice and welcoming to our group of boys. The getting out in nature electronicless event was a huge success and will be repeated in the near future. All of the boys begged to stay longer. Great place highly recommended! read more
