I've stopped in this place a few times over the past few years. Have bought some coins for me and my son. It seems every time I'm in there, I have to deal with the same guy. Older fellow who seems to be very knowledgeable but incredibly rude and condescending. I stopped in today hoping someone else would be working. Not the case. I'm probably going to find another shop to deal with. Shame because the guy who used to own this place (maybe still does) actually gave my son a steel penny years ago in the original store in the mall. Went in the store today with my girlfriend to get a quote on what we could get for a gold bracelet. We had priced at various shops to get different quotes and see the highest offer. When we walked in there was one older employee there. Once we started to talk to him and hand him the bracelet he started to get an attitude with us. SLINGING AROUND an expensive gold bracelet that he obviously knew nothing about. The rude comments kept coming one after another then he tried to tell us something was wrong with our jewelry just because THEIR equipment wasn't working properly. When we have OFFICIAL documentation for the piece. He then offers a low ball price that isn't even close to what gold is worth currently, so apparently he also knows nothing about gold pricing which is a little scary considering thats part of his job. We were recommended to come here and it was such a waste of time. He told us as we walked out the door to come back later when the boss was there to talk to him. read more

Best coin shop in the area. The team is extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. The guy above sounds like he was just having a bad day. I don't know what you expect to get out of a box of pennies, and also the shop deals in rare and valuable coins so I'd be shocked if they had a coin star, lol. The problems he had with communication may be due to the fact one of the employees has a speech impediment. If this is the guy he dealt with I find it very offensive and rude that he would leave a bad review due to having to deal with a persons handicap. The owners of the shop really love numismatics and it's appreciated. I've actually had them talk me out of buying a coin because it wasn't good enough. You ever get the feeling that the person you are talking to on the phone is hearing you in another language? Even though you know they can speak English and you think you're speaking it too! Boring story short; my father left me hundreds of pounds of coins when he passed. The bulk of them were in binders, books, and sets. In total about 600 pounds if i my back had to guess. That wasn't counting the loose pennies!!! Two hundred and fifty (50 count) plastic tubes of Lincoln Wheat-Back Pennies, from the 1930's, 40's and 50's. A guy at the Florence Antique Mall had made me an offer of $1.40 per 50. The one caveat would be that I would have to drive them into Cincy, to his store. Where he could send them through the counting machine. Seeing as how I did not have the coins with me and didn't feel like driving across the river from Florence ( the Traffic!?!), I decided to try my luck closer to home. Coins + was across from the parking lot from the Antique Mall, seems to easy looking back on it. So I dropped them an email, inquiring about selling the pennies. No Response, even though you get a message that someone will get back to you shortly when you post off their web site. Still waiting to hear back. I called up Coins + , when I had some time to deal with the coins . Still to this day I have no idea what the guys name on the phone was, as he had zero phone manners or phone skills. Is it me, or has all manner of phone courtesy died with the cellular phone? After struggling to understand the man on the phone, he informed me that he paid out 2 cents per wheat penny. After weigh my options; the pennies averaged from 7 cents to 3 cents each, I decided that 2 cents per, to buy all of them at once, was worth it. Especially since it eliminated a trip across the river through traffic. So off I went, five minutes from the house, to the shop. I carried in one box of 100 tubes. It had to weigh about 45 lbs, and was so much fun to hold one handed as I opened the shop door. All I could think of was the mess 10,000 pennies makes when you drop them on a sidewalk. Phone-Guy didn't look too happy to have to deal with me. When I asked where I could set the pennies down, he just stared at me. I was totally worried if i set them down on the glass display case they would crash through. Heavy thing a box of pennies! The Phone-Guy went through his spiel about 2 cents a coin, even after I had informed him we had just spoke on the phone. I informed him that the tubes, sorted by year and mint, were not all completely full, and if he still was interested I would bring in the rest. This question took two attempts! I'm from Michigan, so perhaps he had a hard time understanding my accent?!? He was interested! Great News! So I brought in the rest about 140 tubes of pennies, or 60 plus pounds of copper! Then he tells me that the tubes are not full!!!! You can imagine my shock. It was like I had been talking to an alien, judging by the expression on his face. He actually seemed upset and angry that he had to deal with a common mortal. I asked if perhaps he had a coin counting machine,? Again blank stare. A coin shop without a coin counting machine. Kroger's has one, the bank too! Why not the coin shop? I politely thanked him for his time and for paying attention to what I had said before carrying in all of the heavy pennies and in a total moment of maturity, I did not tell the Phone-Guy off. So grabbed my coins (two trips back to the car, ugh!?!) and left with they guy looking at me like a deer stuck in the on coming head lights of a semi-truck. The shop seemed decent enough, but the person I attempted to communicate with is on a different wavelength than me. Looks like i get to haul these coins around some more. Sorry about the previous guy's experience but mine is completely the opposite. I have been a customer for 35 years. They are far and away the most knowledgeable numismatists in Cincinnati. Awards, integrity and honesty. They provide knowledge, insight and a national exposure. One would be hard pressed to find more helpful owners. The internet almost always screws you. Stick with the integrity of a local shop. Note that their competition has gone out of business and they have been there for 40+ years. read more

I am new to collecting coins but thought it seemed like something I would like to do. I went to a different shop to look around they didn't really have much to look at and had no interest in answering my questions. A few days later I went to Coins + in Florence and it was a different story lots of coins to look at and two of the owners were working and they answered my questions and even gave me information on how to join the Greater Cincinnati Coin Club. I felt like they were interested in me coming back as a customer, but also as they put it "starting a new coin collector in to the hobby". The best coin shop in the Greater Cincinnati area. I frequent both the Florence and Downtown Cincinnati stores. Brad and the staff are always very helpful and honest. They carry a great selection of US coins, foreign coins, bullion, and numismatic supplies. This store is a must for collectors just starting out to the experienced collector. read more

Don't expect much if you are a seller. Yes they are knowledgeable-of course. The owner lets it be known 2-3x during a 10 or 15 minute visit that he's been in business 30 years. A bit excessive I thought. At times he was a bit arrogant too. If you are taking in things to have appraised with the possible intent of selling they will pick your items apart. Sell at the conventions or eBay or even Craigslist if you can. They also do not pay in cash, you will receive a written check.
