Great coffee house with tons of seating, tons of ambience, great patio. The parking lot was full when I got there and I'm not surprised, they do need more parking. There were still plenty of seats though when I was there. I liked my coffee, the price was about average, and the only issue I had was I wish they didn't allow smoking on the patio. When I got there no one was smoking and it was nice, but some smokers came later and I bolted. I don't mind vaping but I do mind second hand smoke, I have asthma. So f* smoking! But I won't deduct for that because they can't smoke inside. The wifi worked well so I was able to get lots of work done until the smokers showed up. read more

I love hanging out here!! The atmosphere is nice especially if you just wanna sit in front of your computer all day. They got free wifi, outlets almost everywhere, and open till late night. Yesterday, They had a band come in and play cello and violin -really nice! Coffee's awesome and gelato -even better!!! I got a pistachio gelato affogato (gelato with a shot of espresso added whip cream on top) and boy it was sooo good! I enjoyed every bit of it. I didn't get a good vibe coming into this place. I ordered an ice coffee and I asked the barista to make it sweet. It's very much like how you order from Starbucks, when you ask for it to be sweet, they will add a pump or 2 of syrup. The barista said that the sugar and milk is over there at the other counter. So I said thank you and waited for my coffee so I can move on with my day. This place is confusing as hell. 2 stars is what they deserve. Disappointed. read more

The two stars are for the interior only, and not the products they serve. It's a place I'd enjoy hanging out with some friends, but both the coffee (particularly the espresso-based drinks) and the gelato are bordering on awful. Really, nearly all of the independent coffee shops in Corpus Christi have a "funny" tasting espresso. I can't place what's wrong with it, but it's not good at all. I was excited when I'd heard they have gelato, but my expectations were significantly lowered when I saw their selections. A sign of a good gelateria is pride in the classic gelato flavors: pistachio, nocciola, and bacio. A bad sign: neon green pistachio. A worse sign: none of these flavors existing at all... Both times I've gone to Coffee Waves, the three classic flavors simply weren't there. Instead, there are "flavors" with mashed oreo cookies, and star-shaped "funfetti" cupcake sprinkles. I went ahead and tried a couple of the offerings, and in both taste and texture (gelato should stretch a bit, from your spoon to the bowl when you're taking a bite) it was pretty terrible. For someone who has no idea what gelato should taste or feel like, and just thinks, "oooh! ice cream!" maybe it's okay... I can't see how, but maybe. This seems to be the trend in Corpus Christi, though. Someone starts an independent restaurant, bakery, or coffee shop, not because they have the best product and want to serve it to the public, but because they had an idea that they could fill a niche, and the product quality was somehow an unimportant factor in the equation. I'd much rather give my money to an independent store owner than a chain, but not so much that I'd sacrifice my taste buds in the process. read more

Afogato--from the Latin "nectar from the gods served in a mug containing 100,000 calories of divine hedonism". I have to confess that I've never tried better gelato in Corpus! I love to order the pistachio espresso concoction and join the ten or twelve college students spread out with their laptops throughout the socially-designed Euro kaffeeklatsch vibe seating and relish every delicious, calorie-laden bite. Free WIFI, gorgeous pastries, brisk black and herbal teas make this place a head and shoulders above the rest! Waves is quickly becoming one of my favorite Corpus Christi landmarks! read more

Pick somewhere else if you're in a hurry! I recently stopped by Coffee Waves on my way to an early morning business meeting and ordered the large cardboard pitcher of coffee. It was marked $15 but the employee said it would be $17. OK, whatever. It's a pitcher full of regular coffee with some cups, sugar, and creamer. Seems pretty straightforward, right? Wrong! About 15 minutes of waiting, several people who'd come in after me had been served. Nothing was said to me. So I ask the employee what's going on and he says, "Yeah, it's gonna be a while." OK...what's "a while"? He then sheepishly says, "Yeah, it probably isn't gonna happen today." OK...thanks for wasting 15 minutes of my time dude. Isn't this a coffee shop?? So then I leave but it's too late to go anywhere else (and for some reason Corpus doesn't seem to have many Starbucks locations) so I have to go straight to the meeting without the coffee I'd promised to bring. I think this is the only place in town for gelato. The atmosphere is really chill - great study spot for students. It gets pretty chilly in there, so you might want to bring a light jacket if you are going to be there for a while. The baristas are always really friendly. There is local art for sale on the walls, and there are some boardgames for customers to play. Students get a 10% discount, and there is free wi-fi. read more

My brother and I came to this coffee shop last year while we were home for the holidays. This year, it's all we can think about! The decor is pleasant, the place is relatively quiet and it has free Wi-Fi. We sampled different types of gelato and found each to be stellar. Combining that with a great cup of coffee rounds this place out nicely. The prices are high but I don't feel that I'm paying simply for the coffee but for the experience of relaxing, enjoying my drink, chatting with my friends or using the interest, and taking pleasure in the fact that I don't have to be with my parents 24/7 while I'm in Corpus. I ended up passing by here every day on my vacation last year and look forward to visiting it again this year. read more

If you aren't into starbucks but want to still go to a nice little coffee shop where you can read, study, socialize then you might want to try out coffee waves. located near the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi campus. There is free wi-fi and an array of different seating. the only really downside to this place is that the price for the beverages. i feel like i pay about 2 dollars too much for what i can get a Starbucks and about 4 dollars too much for what i can get at a gas station. but hey...i don't get the same scenery at a gas station and most starbucks all look the same. CW is just another coffee shop with different furniture. I'm not hating on it..i've gone a few times and hey we all like a little change from chain stores , don't we!? ;) the place can get a little crowded at certain times and may be hard to find a seat especially if you are going to study and need the space. For the gelato, its delicious but its something i only get on rare occasions just because its very sweet and takes a bite into my poor college student wallet. plus my hips yell a big "hell no" to my gelato indulgence. enough reasons to limit my purchase to :rarely. other than that its a place you should visit at least once to try the gelato, sip on some coffee and enjoy the change of scenery from the good ol Starbucks. read more

Honestly, not a fan. I'm new to town and wanted to find a quite, cozy, and friendly coffee joint to study and complete work for grad school. Instead I got an extremely cold building, with loud Christmas music, staff yelling at customers across the run multiple times, and coffee that taste like it has been sitting for hours. I wanted to come here because I heard such great things about the coffee and sandwiches. Came in to order my coffee with a sandwich to find out that they were out of sandwiches and only had pastries that looked days old. I happen to disagree with everyone on the decor of this place, I find it to be pretty meh and a little outdated, but it is comfortable in there, lots of comfy seating and space. I am just not into the faux brick veneer. But that isn't really important. This place has really great gelato. They update their flavors pretty regularly and keep some of their best sellers always around like Pistachio (which is REALLY good). I also really loved their fruits of the forest flavor and lemon berry, which was SUPER tart but extremely refreshing. My best advice to you is to sample damn near everything you can in there to find out what you like. Sure, it's not cheap but I've never been to a Gelateria that wasn't expensive, Coffee Wave gelato prices are comparable. They will even give you two scoops of two different flavors in one cup, I think that's pretty generous. Their staff is really friendly and knowledgeable and seemingly hardworking. I always give them fat tips when I am there because there is this one insanely effusive guy with a hat. Good customer service is important. The coffee is pretty good, I think. I had an iced latte the other day and found it to be quite delicious but had an iced mocha the previous and thought it was too strong and overly sweet. When we arrived early in the morning, the baked goods were a bit lacking (I guess no delivery had yet been made) but the cappuccino and drip we got were really pretty good. If there's one thing I'm good at sniffing out in Texas, it's a coffee shop. As one of those writers that likes to write in public settings, I look for places that I can feel comfortable at, get a good connection, get a little food and and drink that aren't overpriced, without any children being disruptive. This place passes every one of my requirements, and to top it off, it's so close to the beach, my other favorite place to write. I also enjoy that it's hidden from tourists, keeps it quiet and locally fresh. The food selection is small, obviously, but what they do offer is very reasonably priced. I got a chocolate chip muffin which was a lot larger than I'd normally get for only costing $2. It was even heated up and put on a plate with a fork on top, and man was it delicious! Finally! Someone not charging me $2 for a damn bottle of water, just cost me a buck. It was quiet the entire time I was here, and the seats were well spread out with plenty of outlets to choose from. The chair I opted for was also insanely comfortable, made it hard for me to get up. Really great set up. I love this place, and wish I lived in Corpus Christ. I'm from Austin where great independent coffee shops are a way of life. Popped in while on a business trip to Corpus and was thrilled and impressed by this coffee shop. The space was lovely, and I really appreciated the variety of seating (bar height, tables, nooks in the back, outdoor patio) so everyone could find what they liked. It was both welcoming and airy. Coffee Waves is the only place in Corpus that serves great coffee. The cappuccino's always have perfect foam. The gelato is the real thing- they studied how to make it from a man in Baltimore, but it tastes more like Italy than Baltimore to be honest. And lastly, the interior is lovely- you actually feel like hanging out a while and using their free wi-fi. Corpus is lucky to have this place. i recently had Adams Chai both hot and then cold. it is so yummy. Home- made chai. Best coffee spot in corpus! The staff is super friendly and the baristas really know what they are doing. I usually stop in 2X a week it's the perfect place to study. It's cozy and comfortable. The coffee is great. I love the honey badger and chai latte. After I had CW chai latte I can't drink it from anywhere else. Plus they have a punch card so after 6 drinks you can get a free one. I usually use it to try something different so in case I don't don't like it's not a total waste. But that has yet to happen.
