I've only tried their iced turkish delight coffee and sugar less mandarin pineapple cake but both are very nice. Coffee was only slightly sweet which is just how I like it. Came in just because I wanted a quick snack and coffee, and didn't realize it was cash only. They had an in store ATM, so I went to go grab cash after ordering. Unfortunately the ATM was down, so I was fully prepared to just not get my order (which would have been my fault) but the owner was incredibly sweet and let me get my muffin and coffee for free. That is not the norm and was absolutely unnecessary, but I really appreciated it. Coffee and muffin were delicious, and I'll be back just to continue to support such a wonderful business! read more

Another excellent alternative to Starbucks. We were leaving Target and I had to get a latte. It was then that this place was suggested. We could have walked here but in true Texas fashion we drove from one parking lot to the parking lot near half price books which happens to be right next to Cafe Calypso. I ordered a latte and while the rest of the party waited we got cash from the ATM that just conveniently happens to be inside the coffee shop. This is because they are a CASH ONLY establishment. I really like the amount of flags that they have hanging everywhere and all the quaint posters. My latte was fine but the cup could have been either cleaned or double cupped because there was so much coffee dripping from the side. I actually really enjoyed my coffee and everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs as well. Customer service is actually quite efficient. You would get the feeling that you are in Germany. Overall, lots of different coffee options. Definitely would return if I am in Corpus again. read more

They have a very nice assortment of coffee beans they roast themselves, why didn't I know that? I picked up a pound of Celebes Collossi, I've enjoyed them before from other roasters and these were no exception. The young lady that waited on me gave me a hot cup of coffee, very nice. Doesn't hurt to be attached to a Half Price Books. We visit this half price whenever we're in Corpus.....and i'll pick up some beans and a coffee drink. Good prices too. read more

Little tricky to find being out of towners, nav took us to Target. Cafe is located on opposite side of parking lot, street side, across from Kirkland's. Fantastic craft roaster, with an excellent espresso that's as good as our fave Starbucks/ Americano. In-house cakes, muffins and cookies (ninja ginja) too including a sugar free option, Mandarin Orange cake that tempted and a regular Mocha. Saving myself for seafood feast but hubby indulged in a soft crumb, super moist apple pecan muffin, not overly sweet. Since I found this quaint coffee shop next to the 1/2 price bookstore, I have visited frequently to indulge in delicious freshly made cakes, cheesecake, sandwiches and the coffee. The owner is such a nice lady, who grinds her own coffee beans, which she also sells. She was very proud of her roasting and combining different coffee beans to make unique blends. I met up with a friend here on my drive back up from Brownsville to San Antonio, and this was the spot he picked. I docked a star only due to the fact it was cash/check only. Fortunately, Grandma came to my rescue and snuck me a $20 before I left on my drive. I only ordered a drink (a latte) for myself and an iced chai for my buddy, but the food menu did look standard and robust (I think I saw chicken salad). I love this place. Just the fact that it's connected to a half price books makes it amazing but they have good coffee. I can't speak to their espresso since I just love their coffee so much I can't convince myself not to get a coffee when I go. If they have their Sumatra get it because it's awesome. When we go down for a quick coast trip from San Antonio we stop for a book, a cup of coffee and a bag of beans. It's the perfect formula for a weekend trip. Also the staff is super friendly! This place is on a corner next to Half Price Books. When I went I didn't see the pass through to the bookstore - I don't think it was open. The coffee shop is an oddly-shaped room and from what I remember it felt dark. The setup is confusing - still not sure where to go order and pay, as I didn't see a register. Anyway, the lady at the counter was friendly and nice enough to answer questions. I ordered a Buzz with coconut. When I went to pay, she said they only take cash. Let me emphasize - in the year two thousand and twenty-one, they only take CASH. She said she would hold my coffe for me while I went to get cash (so I would come back to a cold coffee?) They have an "ATM" machine. Convenient, right? Well, the ATM machine comes through on your bank statement as "Calypso". (I'm mentioning that because if you have bank with an institution like USAA, you don't get the ATM fee refunded.) So your coffee is actually an additional $2.50 than what you pay. Finally, the coffee was just meh. It was bitter and not smooth or flavorful. If I want to spend $8.50 on a coffee (which I don't mind doing once in a while) I'll go to a better place in town where it actually tastes good and I don't have to go through the hassle of finding cash. read more

This cafe is super cute and the perfect spot attached to the half priced books store. I love little places like this, I came here multiple days in a row during my trip down to corpus in June! You can grab a hot or cold late or tea or whatever and look around the bookstore or buy some books and find a nice seat inside the cafe to have coffee and read, its just so nice. This is my favorite coffee shop and any time I have a chance to drive across the Harbor Bridge to Corpus Christi I jump at the chance to visit Café Calypso just to pick up coffee! I walk in and they instantly know what coffee I want and they know my weaknesses are their cookies. Their chicken salad sandwiches are also fabulous and wonderful on an "everything" bagel. After all the browsing I did at the bookstore and my large purchase of books I needed some coffee and dessert. I walked over from the bookstore which was super convienant. They also allow books from the bookstore there . Anyway, I got a Breve coffee (no idea what the coffee of the day was) with a splash of hazelnut syrup. For dessert I tried the German Chocolate cake. The coffee and dessert were both very good I had no complaints drinkable and edible. As for the selections on the menu for drinks there was a nice variety so I wil go back to try others out. The dessert were def interesting I am not adventerous when it comes to cakes and muffins etc. They had a pineapple yada yada cake that looks super most and nice icing but to fruity and citrusy for my liking. If you are more of a safe person they had the typical brownie. Sitting was limited maybe 8 tables there may have been more ranging from 4 sitters to two seaters. It was a typical small coffee house people drinking and reading. I will go back and try more items and given an update. read more

Great little coffee house, I really loved the mocha I had here. It had yummy whipped cream and little chocolate chips. We sat at a table for awhile and chatted, though if I had to take away marks for anything it's that there isn't much ambience. However, I liked my mocha enough that I won't deduct. Calypso is cash/check only, but they have an ATM onsite. Prices are coffee-house typical (aka not cheap). I'd write more, but I only had a coffee. I ordered a drip coffee and a caramel macchiato with almond milk for my hubby. Both coffee's had a smooth finish not too bitter not too sweet great finish with the strong mellow flavor. They take cash and checks only so come prepared. They also have specialties such as Vietnamese coffee and other specialty coffees that are unique to them. The muffins and the cheesecake look delicious and the patrons were pretty hipster would definitely come back and try this place. read more

Best coffee ever!!! No place compares to the rich, tasty, delicious and smooth coffee of Cafe Calypso. I can't get enough of it. I drink it when I'm there and take bags of beans to brew at home. They have so many flavor options and they never disappoint. Cash only spot so I always make sure I have coffee cash. But if you come unprepared, they do have an ATM. It's right next to Half Price Books which is a plus. The only down side is I cannot study/ work too long there because they do not have wall outlets and when my computer dies I have to go elsewhere. read more

So... cash only people. I get they have signs, but I literally pulled out a card as I was ordering. Kind of confusing as to where to order since there is no register at the bar. Only reason I gave them 2 stars is because they ended up not charging me as I wasn't able to get cash from the ATM (not there fault). I plan on going back to pay. My review is mainly due to the quality of the latte I ordered. Clearly no barista blend milks here, it really makes all the difference. Coffee they use is acidic AF. I couldn't finish my drink, it was just bad. Ambience - lacking. Also part of the reason I like local coffee shops, but this place was stacked with too many tables (in my unprofessional opinion). I've worked at coffee shops and the quality of the coffee and the service is what makes me return to most places. I won't be returning - sad face emoji. It's 2021... there is square and other respectable payment receivable options available. $3 ATM plus the charge from my financial institution, is about the price for the beverage it self. If Cafe Calypso would welcome credit payment, it would probably be more profitable and have more sales, rather than leaving customers with a bad taste / having to pay your ATM. read more

They also have a local warehouse where they roast beans and sell to local restaurants. They open at 8 AM, which is a little late for me but I would say worth the wait. read more
