Delightful Tea Rooms in the former George Hotel, in the centre of the pretty village of Codford (which has two halves - Codford St Mary and Codford St Peter - the tea rooms are in the latter, opposite the Woolstore Country Theatre). Access is just off the main A36 Salisbury to Warminster road.
The interior reflects its origins as a pub and hotel: two main rooms, decorated in muted greens, with wooden furniture. There is also a small outdoor area at the rear, for use on sunny days.
The Tea Rooms are open for breakfasts, lunches, and afternoon teas, 10.30 to 4pm Sundays to Wednesdays, and 10.30 to 7.30pm Thursdays to Saturdays. Lunches include a small range of starters, sandwiches, toasties, salads and burgers, alongside a range of traditional pub menu items, such as a curry, lasagne, macaroni cheese, ham/egg and chips, pie of the day and salmon fish cake & chips. On Sundays there's a traditional Sunday roast. They also have occasional events in the evenings, with local musicians.
We stopped by for afternoon tea, my partner having a cream tea with mixed fruit scones, clotted cream and jam, and I had an elderflower pressé with a slice of coffee and walnut cake. The scones were large and well baked, and cake slice was similarly generous.
Staff were friendly and chatty. There is limited parking at the front, but we found space further along the main road. It's a nice spot for a break on a long journey. read more
