The Bad and the Ugly: Everything was just a little bit grubby, from the high-chair brought to us for no. 1 son (cursory wipe-down given by grubby waitress with a grubby dish cloth); inside (as reported upon by Her) was grubby too, so given that the public facing areas were non too hygienic (I've only just realised that I've always spelled 'hygienic' incorrectly prior to this post!), one begins to wonder what the kitchen area is like, doesn't one? Unfortunately, the lingering impression of grubbiness is enough for me to suggest choosing another eatery from the plethora of cafes, bars and restaurants in the vicinity, unless you don't go inside or need a high-chair, in which case it's all Good!

It's humongous so unless you haven't eaten for days you should go with the small portion, which on its own was too much for me to eat. The scones are all freshly baked, and served with fresh clotted cream and jam. The cakes are all freshly baked and a dream. The pasties were made with meat from the butcher down the street, and flour from the mill, and it tasted divine! We met the miller and his wife, and they were so sweet and friendly! We can't wait to come back! A must-experience piece of Devon!

It had a lovely cozy feel with plush velvet seating and charming small tables. The service was nice. The guy who took care of us was also manning the bar. He was busy, but made sure to take care of us well. The tea service was very good. We picked our tea from the list and had a pot steeping while our sandwiches and pastries were being made. The sandwiches and pastries were lovely. A proper afternoon tea in the UK!

This little gem is the last thing that you'd expect to find in the middle of an endless 1970s…read morebungalow-haven housing estate. It was the pebbledash equivalent of finding an oasis in the dessert, a quaint but spacious tearoom offering a wide range of teas, coffees, ice-creams and lunches. As we sat there sipping our perfectly foamed lattes and having a chat with the owners we felt quite excited to have discovered this place that had remained unknown to us until we had stumbled upon it. The melodic, baritone voice of Johnny Cash made its way from the juke box into the corner and combined with the vintage decor gave us a sense of nostalgia. We decided to make a 'thing' of it and ordered some food, which arrived quickly and needless to say was a generous portion. I had noted that the kitchen appeared to be quite small and for two sizeable meals complete with a decorative garnish and all of the sides to come from it must have been quite a chore. I know I would have struggled. The steak was cooked to perfection, I'm not that well educated in steak, I think medium rare is my favorite, I don't really know. All I know is that this one was lovely and I did observe a couple (who had also ordered steaks, in fact the chap had TWO!) taking photos of their meals to send to their friends. When it comes to eating out I am quite a skinflint, it's more often a case of limited funds but if I had the choice of The Harvester or a fancy-dancy restaurant I would probably go with the former unless someone else was paying. Like I said, I'm not a pro when it comes to steaks but I tend to avoid ordering them because I find that they can be hit or miss depending on the chef's idea of what medium-rare is. I know that if I go to The Harvester I'm going to order the BBQ ribs before I even get hold of a menu because they're delicious every time. If I went to a restaurant where I'd need a small mortgage for a started then I'd be doubly disappointed if the meal wasn't up to standard. Anyway, back on track - In conclusion we found Memory Lane to be very enjoyable, the staff were lovely, the setting was lovely. Great food and inarguably good prices. The only issue that I could see (although it didn't affect me) was that they did not serve alcohol. The staff did point out that there is a shop directly opposite where you can buy drink to have with your meal. They did say that they are looking to start doing alcoholic drinks, so perhaps that's sorted now.

I opted for plain as I wanted the traditional version with jam and clotted cream. The scone was HUGE. I enjoyed the little sandwiches. The high tea is plentiful and I took all the little desserts away with me, as it was too much food . The cafe/ restaurant is on an old converted stable located at Hestercombe House n Gardens. You can access this place without having to pay to go inside the stately home as the entrance is accessible.

Located a 100 yards North from the entrance of Castell Coch. This forest hideaway serves a range of hot and cold SNACKS. *Caps necessary to ensure you don't expect poached eggs and hollandaise sauce (I was hungover and had a craving). Opt to sit inside near an open fire or outside where there is an abundance of plants and wildlife - there's even a neighbourhood Peacock! We had toast for two, coffee and a tea - served by their friendly staff which cost only a few pound. Next time as apposed to driving straight there I would choose to take on the Taff Trail ending at the Forest Tea Rooms as its apparent most use it as a post cycle / long walk reward.

Both were pretty good but no napkins! Must be a shortage in Beer. We then had a clotted cream tea, which you have to have in the west country. Very good ones too! Beer is small and not a lot opened especially in November, out of the tourist season. The tea rooms also are attached to a guest house. The tea room had wifi but I wasn't given the password since I wasn't a guest in the guest house. Buying a sandwich and tea doesn't count obviously.
