Louise is hands down the best stylist I have been to in my life. She is the type of person who looks at each client, and sees them as an individual. You know how some stylists will cut the same hair cut over and over? She takes into account your hair type, style, and maintenance schedule to give you a look that is tailored for you. Walking out of an appointment with Louise, I never rush home to "fix" my hair like I did before. I walk out feeling confident and happy, and not wanting to wash my hair to keep her amazing style for as long as I can. She also is THE BEST bang cutter in the world. If you're looking to get bangs, long and flowy or short and choppy, she can do it all. I also have had extensions put in by her that made my ponytails EPIC. She even added purple so I could have the fun of color without the damage. The salon itself is located a short walk from the Target downtown, so it's super convenient. Kelly does the best brows in SF! Before when I would get my brows done by other people my boyfriend would always immediately notice and say I looked like a Vulcan. They just looked too severe, too dark, too "done". Kelly does extremely detailed and polished work but they still somehow look more natural and harmonized with my natural brow shape and facial features. Getting my eyebrows done was a semi-traumatic experience for several years because I would go in and not know if I was going to like what I saw when I left. It's amazing to walk in to get my brows done and not have that feeling anymore. I trust Kelly 100%, she's always done an amazing job every single time. I also get my brows and lashes tinted here and love doing this because I can leave the house without makeup and feel that I still look put together. The lash tint has never burned or been uncomfortable. It's not scary, promise! The photos I am attaching are from a couple days after my last appointment. I had a haircut with Denise- who is awesome- and I loved the service from start to finish with her. Super great stylist. Definitely took in my vibe and gave me a cut and a style that fit my lifestyle, which is to say I can do my hair exactly the same way she did after we were finished so there was no bummed out moment after I did my first post-cut wash and style on my own. Loved that. Also, the whole crew is on top of it as far as customer service goes. I ended up spending a bunch more on product than I had anticipated, but it was because they stocked the place with goods that ticked all my boxes- all pretty natural, cruelty free, and environmentally savvy. When you call to make an appointment, the receptionist asks you for your credit card number. They won't hold the appointment for you without it. This is the first salon I've ever made an appointment with that does this. I wasn't given an explanation as to why the receptionist wanted my credit card number over the phone, before the service. Maybe to charge a fee if you cancel at the last minute? Follow-up: I was a new client, I don't know if they do this with established customers. I told the receptionist I didn't have my cc handy and would call back. After I hung up I decided I wouldn't call back. A few days later I got a vm from Code Salon reminding me that I need to call with my cc# in order to hold my appointment. I didn't call back. That policy is too weird for me. read more

Best haircut I've ever had. Danny is amazing! Incredible service and great experience.

I ended up at Code when I found myself in needing a last minute, drastic hair cut. They were able to get me in the next day! I had my cut with Cynthia, and she was amazing. I went from very long hair to a pixie cut, and she did a great job of listening to what I wanted, while also providing the right amount of input and advice. She then went to work and I couldn't be happier! She really took her time to get it right (I can tell she's a perfectionist!) and was communicative throughout. I was a bit nervous to trust a random new stylist with such a drastic change, but now I can't wait to see her again for my next cut! The front desk staff is also equally amazing. Not only for getting me in on such short notice for the cut, but I also told them I wanted to bleach and tone my hair before heading out of town in a few days. They promised to do everything they could to squeeze me in, and true to their word, they called me an hour later getting me an appointment the day before I left! After getting a blonde balayage over a year ago, my roots were almost completely grown out and my hair was looking dull and boring. I was desperate for something to bring my hair back to life.. Then, Angelica swooped in to save the day! I made an appointment for a balayage, and Angelica did not disappoint. She spent a good amount of time on hair painting, and it was both intricate and relaxing. I have been to salons where stylists rush and are super rough with my hair, but Angelica took her time and I truly felt the quality of her work. I have a lot of hair and it's short and coarse, but she was very patient and made sure the color blended beautifully and naturally. After toning and washing my hair, she also gave me tips and tricks on how to keep my hair voluminous and full. It's only been a week and I've already received many compliments on my hair. Rookie mistake - new to the city and was looking for a salon that could do African American hair, unfortunately, this wasn't the place. Based on the reviews, I was really excited to give Code a try. I even sent a photo in advance to show my hair texture and was clear on some of my concerns (my hair has been thinning considerably since surgery 9 months ago). While my experience at the salon was pleasant and I was happy with the cut. The blow-dry and style wasn't up to par, my roots weren't managed at all and when I asked for them to be pressed with a flat iron, I was told there wasn't enough time left in the appointment to do so. This was doubly painful given this was my birthday weekend and also my first hair appointment in the city before starting a new job. As a result, I ended up getting my hair redone the next day somewhere else. Again very happy with the cut, but utterly disappointed by the blow-dry and style. read more

I decided to finally spend more $$ on a haircut given the raving reviews. Before visiting code, I'd never paid more than $30 for a cut. Unfortunately I was really disappointed. The stylist I wanted for the $75 tier was sick the day of my appointment so they gave me a more senior stylist who normally charged $95. The woman at the front desk was nice enough to honor the original price, so I was fine with the change. That said, my experience was a let down.!My stylist gave me a decent cut but I could've gotten that same cut for way cheaper. I expected to at least get a shoulder massage from reading the Yelp reviews but didn't get that. There was literally nothing special about the visit except the fact it cost way more than what I usually pay. I'm never opposed to paying more if I feel like I'm getting something better but it just didn't feel that way. :( read more

My update is for my recent blowouts Annalizay. This was my first visit as a blowout/style model here. She was extremely professional and sweet! She was also super caring about my hair and my needs due to my hair being super long and colored! She also offered me a super soothing massage for my scalp and shoulders. Truly blissful and relaxing, I've never had this experience at a salon before! She was very skillful with my hair! It came out wonderful and frizz free just how I wanted! My hair feels so light and soft. All the products they use are natural and I love that the most. If I ever have the opportunity to come back, I definitely will! I made an appointment a full month in advance, wanting a full hair dye and cut, with eyebrow tint and wax. As I arrived(20 minutes early), I thought everything would go smoothly, but they made me wait a full hour just to get seated with a loud and always energetic Amanda. I was very unhappy with the results of my eyebrows; my dark eyebrows were tinted and waxed for $70, and came out the same color, and none of my tiny hairs were plucked! She had offered some tea which was probably the best part of my trip there. For the hair, I scheduled a full hair dye and cut and I told the stylist I had previously dyed my hair four years before, and she told me I would have to cut all of that hair off, which took me about 10 minutes to think it over, but I decided I'll do it, and cut off my long locks! She said that our time was up though, because she had another client coming in soon, even though I set up a full hair dye which usually takes up a full day! So my appointment was screwed up somehow and I spent a two hour drive for the salon(with supposedly 5 stars) just for an eyebrow wax and bad tint? Nope! My stylist said she was sorry and scheduled me with a Gia, for just a haircut, which I waited another two hours for!!! Gia gave a nice neck massage, shampooed and conditioned my hair, then styled and cut my hair how I usually liked it but she talked way too much and kept talking to me, asking me about my personal private life, and overly advertising the AVEDA products. Like, I get it, you want more commission, but I just wanted to listen to my music and sip my lovely minty tea. The salon sent their apologies with a phone call asking if I'd like to reschedule, but from my first experience, I'll have to say, "hell no!" First impressions are everything, and I honestly don't see how this salon is 5 stars. This salon sucks. read more

So back in April I chopped my hair off from chest length to a pixie length. I have never looked back and I am so happy that I did. That being said, unfortunately I had to stop going to my then long term hairstylist because she didnt seem comfortable or well versed in pixie hair cuts (she was amazing and longer bombshell hair). So that left me in search of a new salon that could "get" my pixie cut and wouldnt leave me with a mop on my head within a month. Thats when I stumbled upon CODE salon on yelp and I booked my appt w/ Majolyn after being recommended by a very kind and helpful receptionist. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT...Majolyn is the BOMB DOT COM. I fell in love with her before she even touched my hair when she gave me an amazing quick neck and head massage (I was in heaveeeeen) But onto the haircut. I showed Majolyn the type of pixie cut I wanted while showing her pictures and she was very thorough on asking me questions about what I liked about the pictures and what my hopes for the haircut was. She was kind, adorable, and just got what I was looking for. I seriously couldnt be happier with my cut and it is well worth the small commute from the East Bay to see her. I had a hair appointment with Erica a few months back and she has probably miscalculated the waviness of my hair, which resulted in some really blunt, bad layers. I could see she was going the wrong way based on the tools she used and how she used them (hey, i know my hair and what doesn't work on it but she did not listen). I was very sad, almost in tears at the end of the haircut and made it clear it's not what I wanted. She told me to go home to get used it and that I will like it in the end. I left in tears and their team actually saw it. I find that a very bad customer service on their end. I called back to complain and indeed they wanted to help out, but talking with a colleague of mine from work, and finding out that 3 weeks before she had a similar experience at the same salon, I refused to get this fixed with them again. I would literally give six stars if it were possible. This place is epically amazing, and I will definitely go back. Celena is the most talented and fastidious, while at the same time quick (my updo took less than an half hour and looked like it was straight off the red carpet) hairstylist I have ever experienced. But that is just the beginning of what a wonderful and patient person she is. Let me start at the beginning... Due to an extreme scheduling issue, I was an hour late for my hair appointment. I felt terrible about making Celena wait for that long, and apologized for being ridiculously tardy. Now here's where I got my first glimpse of what a compassionate and dedicated person Celena is, rather than show any hint of frustration at her client showing up an HOUR after the start time (as I probably would), she was warm and reassuring that everything would be fine. Then she made magic happen. I showed her a photo, and with a confident glance she let me know it wouldn't take much time at all, and I would be able to make it to my evening event without issue. And then she whipped out the most amazing updo I have ever experienced, all while calming me down from a stressful series of unfortunate events. When she was finished she asked if I had the dress I was wearing to the event, because she would love to see the entire effect. I went to put it on, and...the zipper stuck. I tried over and over again to get it up, and it was just stuck. After a few minutes Celena asked if everything was ok, and I showed her the dress zipper. She immediately got to work trying to zip me up, and when she had a hard time enlisted some other employees to help her. And then when that failed, she escorted me downstairs, all the while assuring me that I had not mysteriously grown three sizes in the night, and that it was the zipper's fault and not the dress (believe me I needed convincing), to the TAILOR at THE FACTORY downstairs from CODE and talked to me the entire time I was SEWN INTO MY DRESS! Needless to say my night was saved by her heroic and eternally patient style. Words cannot express my gratitude to Celena, she turned a night that could have been a bust before it even started, into one that was unforgettable. If you don't go see her you are doing yourself (and possibly humanity) a disservice she is that talented, but more importantly her optimism and calm could make all the difference in whether you just get your hair done, or have your entire day turned around. okay, RUN don't walk to this salon & see Sammy if you are looking to have your hair colored. I dread finding a new colorist the way some people dread going to the dentist... but Sammy did an incredible job on my hair. I asked for highlights, and upon arriving brought a picture that was basically just a generic "I'd sort of like this" example. She was incredibly considerate and thoughtful, and basically talked me through what I actually wanted. Eventually she suggested a partial balayage (I was worried this would just add an extra $100 to my tab, but not the case). She delivered on exactly what I wanted, and was fun to chat with to boot. Can't recommend her highly enough (kinda wanted to keep this gem a secret, but honestly she deserves the additional clientele). read more

I have received balyage, all over colors, root touch ups, and full highlights with Olivia and every time she out does herself and exceeds my expectations fully!! I have moved away from San Francisco but still stay faithful, as it is the only salon I trust and Olivia is the only colorist I will go to! Amazing customer service! I had an off the hook Service with Kelly Jones for Brows and Lashes!! Many of the stylists and all of the skin therapists went to SFIEC! (The best school in SF!) The salon has inspiring art on the wall and the style is urban chic without being pretentious. The product mix will suit all customer needs and the music makes you want to buy the CODE SALON soundtrack. Walkins are welcome, but not usually accommodated because of the salons popularity. Parking is the only challenge. Make dinnreservations for after your appointment... cause you're going to look to HOT to go home! read more

I am not planning to ever re-bleach my roots...so no point in the blonde...time to go back to my dark hair! angelica was sweet and made sure I knew what kind of dark color I wanted, black? or dark brown...turns out I want chocolate brown with hints of red. no brass please! DONE! She blended my dark rooks to the brown perfectly, she dyed it twice so that the color wouldn't fade too fast, because alas my hair was super light. She blow-dried my hair so nicely! The shine was AHMAZING. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair! I've been thinking about a bob for 2 years and have never had the courage to do it... but a consultation with Danny finally got me to take the leap! We set expectations with photos, and I chose the a-Line because I'm super lazy and don't want to deal with the back of my hair flipping strangely when I don't feel like taking extra time on my hair (which is pretty much every day). In the past, I've usually immediately regretted cutting a lot of hair off but this time, I felt amazing and not the least bit regretful of losing five inches of hair. Courtney did an amazzzzing job with my color! It's so cool how they use ipads to help customers get 'inspirations'. The same goes with the hair cut as well. Erica was totally cool and had fun with my hair cut. This place is a school, there's different levels, higher = more $. Even level 1 is really superb. They hire really good people! The shampoo station is different because instead of chairs, it's a bed, which is super comfortable. The cut was $45 and color was like $85, really good price. I would love to come back, and Erica offers complimentary bang trimming. LOVE this place, and they make you super comfortable and have drinks/water for you! All Aveda products, and they mix colors out in the open, so no added junk. read more

TJ is my hair miracle worker (: I had split ends all around, unruly yet flat up top hair that's longish but frayed at the ends so it looked sad, and now... My hair's got body!!! It fluffs and shines!!! I'm totally relaxed and ready for my big convention presentation tomorrow! TJ did some relaxing breathing and massaging techniques, whipped me off into a magical whirl of shampooing and condition (with cruelty-free products--YAY), dedicated the trim to perfectly framing my face while eliminating those pesky splits, then gave me a blow out that rocked my locks *o* He even described the products he used to clean, primp, and style my hair that felt natural, light, fresh, AND SMELLS GREAT.
