I'd driven past this location so many times over the years and even knew tons of kids who attended but never inquired. I'd always thought SCV is so off the grid what do they know about Hollywood? just another company taking peoples money claiming they have all these connections getting folks hopes up. But after wanting to yank my hair out managing my son's auditions I decided I go check them out. And I would have never imagined how one decision could change the trajectory of my thinking and open up so many opportunity. I will say, if you attempt to get pricing info over the phone, that's not gonna happen. You will be directed to Mike Josten, the owner. He's been in business over 20 years in the city, please feel free to check out his accreditations with the City (like Chamber of Commerce, etc.). It's a business people, I've seen comments like "he's a Salesman" but if you already have your mind set to buy something .. you will and if you don't, you won't. You can't blame a business owner for doing his job selling his business. You came to him. He's not scouting and cold calling. Mike was everything I'd imagined. High energy, friendly, passionate and so so encouraging. I've never met a stranger so kind, he's funny too and just really wanting to help support peoples dreams. And that all truly mattered to me. Without a doubt this school is it. When you see comments saying everyone in there gives a family vibe, it's true. All the students love Mike! He jokes and laughs with them, they respect him and everyone PERFORMS. And The teachers get to it! They supply the trainings, and resources all the way up to helping you land an agent. There are legit SAG/AFTRA agents that scout EVERY SAT at the school. Being on the business side of the entertainment business, I know this place is a powerhouse for anyone wanting to take their craft serious and are really looking to get out there. You just have to bring your skill set and show up! Put in the work. My husband was excited when he was taking an international flight and saw our son in the DirecTV commercial. He is now 25 and has an established career and since has moved on.... Now, we have our 11 year old daughter enrolled in SCSOPA! She is enjoying every single minute here. I believe this may be her second home. She enjoys the acting classes, the voice overs, teen runway, on-camera scene practices, etc. She loves it, loves it, LOVES it!!! To add on, she has made some great friends already in the 2 months that she has been here. She just participated in a fashion show, so this place keeps her BUSY! The teachers are awesome. They are encouraging and kind. All of the instructors have professional backgrounds and it's wonderful that they are sharing it with our kids. There are agents that come weekly looking for talent. SCSOPA is preparing her for a shot in the industry! We also see her confidence building. She has met with a couple agents and is wanted by both. We will see;). Mike, the owner is warm, hilarious, and full of energy. Mike and his team are passionate about the kids and their future in show biz. Within my 10 weeks of the 12 week course I've learned more than I did in my four years of high school. Lindsay, Victoria, and Sophie are the best teachers I could ever even ask for! Campus is clean with a lot of trees and grass. They have a nice cafeteria with a view. Not sure about the food quality...it's a school cafeteria. Lol They also have a little coffee shop on campus. Back story: A stylist in Palmdale/Lancaster ruined my hair and i thought id give Monarch a chance to correct it. Immediately they were very welcoming, they analyzed my hair very thoroughly & gave me a few recommendations before they treated my hair to give me the blonde i wanted. I had very reasonable expectations going into Monarch for a haircut/bleach and tone. I've gone to beauty schools for services before, and understand the nature of it as well as the risks. But I've never left one completely dissatisfied. Here's the thing, though- The student did maybe 10% of my cut. The instructor did the remaining 90% And not only did she ignore what I asked for, she botched what she gave me. The photo I showed her is far from the cut I received. It is SO much shorter, the layers are very rough, blunt, and uneven, and the shortest layer is literally unstylable. I explained that I needed enough length to curl daily. I was far more after a little volume and hair health than a full on transformative haircut. If the student had done this, though I'd obviously still be upset about the outcome, I feel it'd have been excusable, and would have understood. I wouldn't be writing this review. But there is no reason whatsoever that a licensed cosmetology instructor should have been so very careless in this situation. I felt there was zero caution exercised, and it was just immediate chopping off major length, no work up to it. So it was too late pretty much instantly. And even the student was visibly jarred upon watching. I voiced that she cut it way too short, and she told me that she left far more length than my photo showed, which frankly felt insulting because it just simply isn't true and anyone with eyes could see that. Not to mention that later on in the appt when her student asked her how much longer she should leave my bleach in after checking me, she didn't even look and said "her hair will tell you." I understand the sentiment, but that's not teaching. That's a disservice to her students whom are paying top dollar to be there. I'm not going to name the student, as she did a very good job on my bleach/tone, and I don't want her name to be associated with a 1-star review. The instructors name was Mrs. Ramirez, who I've come to understand is head cosmotology instructor. It's very unfortunate, because now I'm in a tough spot trying to find a stylist whom can install extensions ASAP as I cannot go to work like this. So I'm going to be out several hundreds of dollars, and several hours of my day (which I have to take off work for) I'm not sure how the other instructors operate, so I can't say to stay away from this place entirely, but I would definitely discourage having Mrs. Ramirez oversee/participate in your services. Her approach is far too lackadasical.

The teachers are great and the staff is very responsive when it comes to emails. There is also a portal for you to use when looking at classes, your account, etc. Also, as a working parent, I appreciate that this place actually has wifi when waiting for your child (this is HUGE). The studio just wrapped up a Peter Pan theme recital. It was an amazing production and you can tell how much work the staff and kids put into it. My daughter says she LOVES being on stage and now wants to take all the classes! Thanks so much!
