My wife and 2-year-old daughter enrolled in the Parent Tot Program earlier this month. During the first day, my wife made sure to let them know that my daughter doesn't yet know how to go on the swing on her own and that's something we are working on. On the second week of this program, during the last 10 mins where they separate the parents and let the kids play on the playground, one of the teacher's aide put her on the swing by herself, pulled her back, and pushed her forward. My daughter flipped backwards off the swing, spun in the air, and landed facedown on the ground. My wife ran out and quickly checked on my daughter and took her home. We called the pediatrician's office to see if we needed to bring her in to check for signs of concussion. After this happened, the school never once called to see how she was doing. The next day, we got a hold of the director and spoke to her about this incident. She tried to downplay it equating it to a minor fall/scrapes. No, this was not just a minor fall but a dangerous accident that happened in the hands of the teacher's aide. She then let us know that the way they work the swing is they first ask the child if they know how to go on and if the child say 'yes' and their hands are on the chains, they can go ahead and push the child. So they ignore what the parent told them during orientation, do not take any precautions when pushing a small child on the swing as long as the child said 'yes' to the swing? This is highly reckless and dangerous! We canceled our enrollment and never coming back here. Parents beware! read more

I've been taking my little one here since their Parent Tot program and have enrolled my little one for the last two years. They have potty trained him, worked with his speech delay, and have nurtured him like one of their own. I've never had any bad experiences and they have been a beacon of early child learning for hundreds of parents since their inception. It's a hidden gem, simple, educational, and mostly importantly offers children learning experiences through play. My kid now loves yoga, music class, and is an avid lover of arts and crafts all thanks to the wonderful staff here. Love this place and even though my little one struggled being away from me in the beginning at age 2, he quickly got used to it so much that he forgets to say goodbye to me nowadays, basically runs to his class. We feel so lucky that we found Little Shepherds! We were new to the area, looking for preschools and on the waiting list several places already, when we stopped by the Little Shepherd's open house and fell absolutely in love. The staff are fantastic, most have been there for years and years, and since it's a small school they know all the kids. My daughter was lucky enough to have Miss Chris, who is just so nurturing and kind, and made her first school/away-from-family experience amazing. She identified some mild concerns we never would've spotted on our own and offered suggestions to help work through them. It's truly everything we could have asked for in a preschool - play-based, the kids spend half the day outdoors in their huge yard, they have yoga and music sessions, and the kids tend a little garden. For Thanksgiving the kids helped cook a meal to share, they brought in a touch-tank one day for the children to explore marine life, and their holiday program and celebrations throughout the year are so much fun! I could not recommend them more, and we look forward to our next year here. read more

My 3 year old attended school here and it was a great experience! It was our first time separating. She cried the first 2 times but it wasn't long. They sent me pictures minutes later of her doing some art. They did a great job transitioning her. She was always excited to go and she talked so much about Miss Chris. She got to make little friends and they had so many activities for them. They had an aquarium come, they have yoga classes, music class, etc. The staff is caring and feels like everyone knows each other on a more personal level. Little Shepherd's has been an amazing school since I went there almost 30 years ago. My oldest has been attending for 2 years and my youngest is in her first year. All the teachers are incredibly patient and kind! They have three classes, basically for ages 2, 3, and 4. The teacher to child ratio is very low so each child is known and worked with personally. The education style is play based, and the outdoor yard is fantastic. They have a large grassy area with a play structure, climbing dome, cement tunnel, swing set, tricycle path and more! Kids often get sick at school but they do have air filtration systems running in each room to help mitigate this. They keep kids on a great hand washing routine as well. The normal hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9am-12pm (2 or 3 day options available) but your child can stay for "lunch bunch" til 2pm for an additional fee. This school is very affordable and beyond worth the cost for such a loving and supportive environment. read more

I am so happy about my kiddos attending Little Shepherd's! I have a 2 and a 4 yr old and was looking for a preschool where I could place both of them. I was looking for an open playground with grass and lots of activities for my busy 2 yr old who loves being outside. I found so much more than a great playground! I found that the teachers are nurturing and kids are allowed to be kids. For example, kids can wear flip flops if they prefer. One day my son arrived to school and said he was hungry. His sweet teacher asked if he would like to sit at the table and have some of his snacks. I love that this basic human need was acknowledged and he was allowed to eat even though it wasn't officially "snack time". And I never felt shamed, for not getting him to eat enough before school that particular morning. Another great thing for me is that they do allow kids to have more snacks during outdoor play, should they want their snack again. This put my mind at ease, knowing my kiddo wouldn't be starving during the morning. The teachers are getting to know my kids and share with me little tidbits about their personalities and behavior at school. I feel listened to. My son has a peanut allergy and skin sensitivities. I felt like the teachers care about my concerns and they have responded in ways so that I knew they were hearing and not judging me because of concerns or different needs my kids may have. I like that they do not routinely use harsh/toxic hand sanitizers on the kiddos. They wash the kids hands instead, which makes me feel good about actual removal of dirt instead of just covering dirt with sanitizer since dust can have pesticide residue. I'm not sure if they actually spray for pests on this property, but many preschool do. The kids spend up to half their time playing and learning outdoors. Something I really wanted for my children who have had to spend lots of time indoors since we have a new baby in the house. I feel welcomed as a parent. The teachers seem very comfortable about my presence when I have lingered and taken pictures of my kids or just stayed a little longer till my child felt comfortable with me leaving. I like that I could peak in the window the first week of school and instead of the adults trying to hide my child from seeing me, they say "Oh, who's that?! Hi mom!" And the very jovial teacher's assistant was hugging my son. My shy boy and outgoing girl both enjoy their time at the preschool. The only time my son has been teary-eyed at drop off is when he wasn't feeling well, and I didn't realize he had a fever. Later that morning, a teacher noticed his temperature and called me to pick him up. They have an ice cream social the day before school starts, which helped my kids adjust to the new environment, as did visiting the school with both kids before enrolling. I think this helped so that there were no tears the first day of school. read more

This school is a hidden gem. My daughter started when she was 2 and I was afraid she would cry everyday when being dropped off since that's normally what kids that age do when transitioning from home to a school setting, however my daughter only cried the first two days then she was excited to go to school. They have an affordable 3 or 5 day program and offer after hour care as well. The classes are small which gives the teacher 1 on 1 time with each student. For those kids that are not fit for the 1 teacher to 30 kids. However durning breaks they do play with other classrooms which is perfect for the child that loves to interact with a lot of kids. My daughter had learned a lot and will be back in the Fall. Ps. At the end of the school year they received a "ME" book their teacher puts together of some of their artwork and pictures of them throughout the year! Cutest thing ever. read more

Both of my children went here for their pre-school years ... from about 2005-2008. It's truly one of the best kept secrets in SCV! They learn by play, they offer great hours (and extended hours!) and my children loved attending. Leaving Little Shepherd's gate for the final time today with my soon to be kindergartner is very bittersweet. Little Shepherd's has more than prepared him for kindergarten, yet we wish we could stay at Little Shepherd for longer. You will not find more loving, caring, and patient teachers and staff. It is like leaving your child with family when you drop them off at school. The play yard is impressive and learning there is play based, just as it should be at this age. My shy sweet boy has blossomed into a confident young guy with many friends and all the skills needed for elementary school. We will miss Little Shepherd's dearly and can't recommend it more highly. read more

Both of my daughters attended Little Shepherd's and I could not have asked for a better preschool experience! The teachers are phenomenal; such a compassionate, empathetic, and knowledgeable staff! The classrooms are full of child created artwork and the yard draws the children out to play with lots of grass, great equipment, and shade provided by the wonderful trees! Little Shepherd's provides a safe, welcoming learning environment for children to explore and grow throughout the many stages of child development that occur at the preschool level. This is THE BEST preschool in the Santa Clarita Valley. It is a traditional preschool in the perfect sense of the word. It is based on play and socialization (although the kids do "learn" what they need to know in kinder). The prices are reasonable and the staff is so caring and experienced. You cannot find a better school! My boys (now 10 and 8) went there and my daughter is starting her second year. I can't imagine sending my kids anywhere else! :) read more

We found this preschool by chance while driving by on the way to the DMV. So happy we did. Both my girls go to Miss JJ's class and love it. Every time I pick them up they have a big smile in their face and can't wait to show me their artwork. The school hours are 9am to 12pm with extended hours as needed from 12pm to 3 pm. The rates are great, especially when you have two kids attending (sibling discount offered). The best part is the shaded and nice (fully fenced in) front yard with lots of play equipment and beautiful old trees. The kids learn through play, with lots of artwork, singing and fun. I could not be more pleased with this school. My daughter loved her experience and my son just started! Today they painted giant cardboard boxes in the yard and they will be making them into a fire truck and a house. He was in heaven. It's so awesome to watch my little ones learn and grow in an environment that understands how important it is to be hands on and to explore and create. The teachers are so loving and care for each student and their own individual educational journey. Just go check out the yard. The playground with the wide open grass, sandbox and big beautiful trees is what sold me. Not to mention they get to see watch the train go by from afar everyday. I'm almost hesitant to write a review for Little shepherds because I want to keep it all for myself. Fortunately, my preschooler has taught me all about sharing... ;) This place is incredible. The staff is warm and caring and form a personal relationship with the children and parents. The teaching covers fundamentals but also embraces free play and art. The grounds are incredible, with enormous trees for the children to play under. I can't be effusive enough to adequately explain how dear this school is to me. All I can say is when my children graduate there won't be a dry eye in the house. read more

I wish I could give Little Shepherd's more than 5 stars. It has been the best preschool for my son, and I'm sad that we have to say goodbye, since he will be moving on to TK. He has attended Little Shepherd's for two years and I have been so happy with everything since Day 1. We were hesitant to enroll our son in any school at the time because he has a shy personality and was not used to being around other kids or adults he didn't know. However, Little Shepherd's seems to attract genuinely nice people (parents, students, and especially the staff). My son started in Ms. Susan's class his first year and her warm nurturing personality is just what he needed to succeed. The entire staff is very patient and caring. His second year, he was in Ms. Chris' class, and he really started to flourish. I'm always impressed with the arts and crafts projects that he brings home, and I love all the activities the school plans for the kids throughout the year. They took a field trip to the nearby zoo, they bring snow in during the winter for a snow day, and they have a summer program that incorporates a lot of water activities. Because the school is older and well established, they have a great outdoor playground with mature trees that provide shade for hot days, since outdoor play is a focus. Little Shepherd's is everything we were looking for in a preschool and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a play-based preschool with a friendly staff that truly cares for each child who attends. I never doubted that my son was well taken care of and treated with kindness while he was there. read more
