Complementary fruit!
Amy L.

The pork cutlet was delcious! It was fun to grind our own seeds for the sauce. Meals were a bit pricey, but come with complementary miso soup, salad with homemade sesame & yuzu dressing, fruit, tea & for the summer they are giving cotton candy! Owners are super friendly. They said they wanted to give a taste of Japan to the community, without having to fly halfway across the world. Definitely worth a try!

Spicy Tuna Donburi, Yakitori, Shabu Shabu Beef

Friendly atmosphere and very welcoming staff! The comic books on the shelves really caught our attention and I think it's a very unique aesthetic to have compared to other restaurants. Shabu shabu beef and spicy tuna donburi were pretty good! Would go back :)

Hiyayakko

Looking at the photos and reviews, had some higher expectations. Maybe that was not the right approach. Servers were friendly and service was fine on a late Sunday afternoon, which wasn't too busy. Food wise, I'd rank it from 1 to 3.5/4 stars which is how I'd rank the Yakitori Combo which came with 6 skewers of various items. The best being the bacon wrapped asparagus and the worst being the cow tongue and beef which were both a bit tough. Everything else was kind of mid. I ordered a separate order of chicken heart and it was very dry and tough. Some of the skewers were hot but others were lukewarm. The gizzard teppanyaki was probably the best dish but I could've done without he cheese. But the gizzard itself came out nice and hot, flavorful and not dry/chewy like the hearts. The mid dishes (2 to 3 stars with 3 being very generous) include: Calamari pepperoncino. Nothing special about this and the calamari itself was a bit flavorless. Spicy Garlic Edamame was fine. Poke salad was okay, nothing special. Hiyayakko was okay too. Now the 1 star dishes: Tuna and yellowtail carpaccios were not carpaccios at all. Basically it's sashimi on some soy sauce...very disappointing. The futuomaki hand roll is nothing like a traditional futomaki roll. I was expecting a variety of vegetables and egg but it had a bunch of tobiko (fish eggs) avocado and rice and honestly, don't remember what else it had but that's how memorable it was. I already mentioned the chicken heart which was dry, tough and came out lukewarm. Based on their menu, there's definitely a good variety but maybe they need to shrink their menu and focus on making some things better.

Came for the soft opening close to opening time and was warmly greeted by the staff. Apparently it's around day 5 since opening and although you can tell the servers and workers are still getting the hang of things, it's still such a pleasure. I tried their rolled egg (dashimaki tamago) and it was a tasty starter before my yakitori came. Ended my dinner with a spicy tuna hand roll! The shiitake mushroom yakitori could use a little more salt and the chicken gizzard was a bit tough but flavors are there. The beef was tender and tasty! All would've been great with a beer to wash down but I opted for a sprite :) The spicy tuna was very flavorful and had a great kick. The whole time you could see and hear the owner(?) coaching and training the staff through service and how to handle customers. So far a decent soft opening--would certainly come back for their official grand opening!

Pork and chicken skewer

We came to the soft opening and realized this restaurant replaced i20. The pork belly and chicken skewers could have been salted more and also been more tender. The agedashi tofu was good but could have been cut into more bite size pieces. I would say the price point at this place is very high for extremely small portions. Definitely considering it's still a soft launch, but as of now, they have meat skewers, sashimi, hand rolls, and some appetizers. They had also run out of some meat skewers when we arrived. Service was good and the restaurant itself is very clean. I left hungry after ordering multiple dishes so I gave it couple stars.

Loved our lunch at Cocone! Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful--especially the mentaiko udon and gyudon. The presentation was beautiful, and you could tell the chef puts a lot of care into each dish. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive. They brought out a high chair and kids' utensils without us even asking, and made great recommendations for our little one. Calm, cozy vibes and genuinely welcoming to families. Definitely coming back!

First time dining here and it exceeded our expectations. Menu for lunch is amazing and the free salads, miso soup, and fresh fruits added a great punch! Will sure come back. 5 all the way!

It was a soft opening, and by around 6 pm, all tables were filled with customers, which suggested it was really good and hard to wait to try the food. After half an hour, we got a seat. We started with Orion beer, imported from Okinawa, which is hard to find in other stores. We began with Takoyaki (6 pieces), which was good and exactly what I expected. We also had mixed tempura, chicken, beef tongue yakitori... and more drinks were calling. We enjoyed hand rolls, Okonomiyaki, and spicy tuna rolls, among others. Every dish served was the best in Fullerton. If you want to have fun eating various yakitori with friends, this is a place you shouldn't miss. Additionally, the servers were very friendly and energetic in serving customers.

Sunhee S.

The restaurant was extremely clean, and all the food were top quality! The takoyaki came in portions that were more than enough for two people (8 pcs), potato croquettes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (4 pcs, with comes with sauce), yakisoba was wonderfully seasoned with delicious bits of seafood and bacon paired with ginger slices, and the pork katsu help up to the standard with soft textures. The salad bar was a nice touch along with the customer service!

Best Katsudon in Fullerton! Friendly service and free miso/salad/fruit!!!

Had the Katsudon here, superlicious!! Friendly service plus free miso/salad/fruit! Very nice and chill environment , perfect for peaceful family meal!

Ambiance: Casual and elegant, a really nice spot for a date night and special occasion. Food: - Peruvian Cebiche: 9/10 very good. Personally I would prefer chips to eat with ceviche, but the crunchy topping goes really well with it. The sauce doesn't have much onion or shallot, which I prefer a lot since I don't like raw onion. - Bluefin Tuna Tiradito: 9/10 the fish melts in your mouth, and the sauce is delightful, goes so well. - Nikkei Bluefin Tuna (nikkei sushi): 10/10 a must order, don't know what in their sauce but it's amazing. - Blue Crab Hand Roll:7/10 I expected a little bit more, but it's not fishy at all, which I like. - Chutoro Maki (roll): 9/10 I'm usually not a garlic person, but it tastes amazing. - Nikkei Maki (roll):10/10 the popped quinoa added a supreme smoky touch to it. - Lucuma Ice Cream + Churros: 10/10 a surprise taste, love love it. It reminds me of sapoche and persimmon, which are my favorite fruits. Service:Really attentive , the second I finished my water, they refilled it immediately. They also gave us a free dessert because it's our anniversary, which was such a sweet touch.

The restaurant was nice, clean, and very aesthetic with the people making sushi and seating available in front of them. Great spot for a date. We opted out of the curated menu where there was set meals for $85 or $115 depending on the tier you wanted. However, the pre-fixed menu didn't include what I wanted to try which was their ceviche. However, looking back you get a better bang for your buck if you do the pre-fixed option. We ordered two plates each with some hand rolls and it came out to a similar price if not more. The food was fresh and flavorful. It made me want to try even more of their options, hence the pre-fixed menu. 9/10

In the middle of an unassuming strip mall with its own unassuming storefront lies one of the best ramen & sushi experiences I've had in all of OC. And I mean the *entire* experience. The interior had a an authentic and cozy atmosphere with little booths and raised walls, some of which even had curtains for semi-private dining. The Japanese owner was so friendly and after noticing I ordered a negitoro handroll, made us another negi toro nigiri with fresh wasabi garnish and beautifully arranged cucumbers, not to mention it was on the house?! Let me tell you, my wife and I have been to Japan twice and that piece of nigiri was the first time I could compare any piece of sushi in California to that which we had overseas... it was THAT good, like the rice as well had such a fragrant flavor to it that complimented the fish on top. At your typical sushi joint or even an AYCE one you tend to not think much about the sushi rice or even hope for smaller portions of it, absolutely not the case here. Funnily enough we came here for ramen but now I've made it a mission to come back to try the sushi as well. Speaking of ramen, we ordered the tonkatsu red (perfect mild level of spice) and miso ramen, both broths were flavorful and the noodle and meat portions were so generous. The two cuts of pork included in each bowl caught us off guard with how thick they were (other ramen shops serve 2-3 thinner cuts of pork), , but it was marbled nicely and cooked in a way that it was easy to bite off. And as if if the freebie nigiri wasn't enough, they gave us little scoops of vanilla ice cream at the end with the check! Needless to say, entirely worth an extra tip. We will be coming back!!
