This is a hidden gem! We came here during the soft opening and back again for date night. For appetizer, the agedashi tofu was one of the best we've had! For entrees, we ordered the shabu pot, which was wholesome and perfect to share between two people alongside the other dishes. We also had the sushi combo to try, and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent on our first visit - the staff is so friendly and polite! Space was nice and clean, which we appreciate! On our second visit, there was a lot going on and several little things were missed which made the experience not as enjoyable but food was still good. read more

I love this place! Not only for their food but also the staff. They are so welcoming and kind! One time a chef made for us a literal orange bear( meaning a bear shaped out of cut oranges pieces) and we didn't even order it. Their menu has a giant variety of dishes. My dad, he likes to come at happy hour and order everything on the happy hour menu! My favorite is the hand rolls, especially the tuna hand roll. Their udon is also fantastic! The vibe feels very much like Japan, I feel like I'm in Tokyo when I come here. I would recommend coming to cocone and giving it a try. They're great! read more

Fresh and delicious! Went for lunch! They have a help yourself area to get miso soup that had baby clams, salad bar with fresh mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, tofu, and carrots. Loved that! For lunch, my husband ordered the curry yakisoba and I had the tomato hamburger steak. We both enjoyed our lunch but my husband said next time he will order it with some protein or another dish. We'd like to go back to try some other dishes. read more

The pork cutlet was delcious! It was fun to grind our own seeds for the sauce. Meals were a bit pricey, but come with complementary miso soup, salad with homemade sesame & yuzu dressing, fruit, tea & for the summer they are giving cotton candy! Owners are super friendly. They said they wanted to give a taste of Japan to the community, without having to fly halfway across the world. Definitely worth a try! read more

Looking at the photos and reviews, had some higher expectations. Maybe that was not the right approach. Servers were friendly and service was fine on a late Sunday afternoon, which wasn't too busy. Food wise, I'd rank it from 1 to 3.5/4 stars which is how I'd rank the Yakitori Combo which came with 6 skewers of various items. The best being the bacon wrapped asparagus and the worst being the cow tongue and beef which were both a bit tough. Everything else was kind of mid. I ordered a separate order of chicken heart and it was very dry and tough. Some of the skewers were hot but others were lukewarm. The gizzard teppanyaki was probably the best dish but I could've done without he cheese. But the gizzard itself came out nice and hot, flavorful and not dry/chewy like the hearts. The mid dishes (2 to 3 stars with 3 being very generous) include: Calamari pepperoncino. Nothing special about this and the calamari itself was a bit flavorless. Spicy Garlic Edamame was fine. Poke salad was okay, nothing special. Hiyayakko was okay too. Now the 1 star dishes: Tuna and yellowtail carpaccios were not carpaccios at all. Basically it's sashimi on some soy sauce...very disappointing. The futuomaki hand roll is nothing like a traditional futomaki roll. I was expecting a variety of vegetables and egg but it had a bunch of tobiko (fish eggs) avocado and rice and honestly, don't remember what else it had but that's how memorable it was. I already mentioned the chicken heart which was dry, tough and came out lukewarm. Based on their menu, there's definitely a good variety but maybe they need to shrink their menu and focus on making some things better. read more

Came for the soft opening close to opening time and was warmly greeted by the staff. Apparently it's around day 5 since opening and although you can tell the servers and workers are still getting the hang of things, it's still such a pleasure. I tried their rolled egg (dashimaki tamago) and it was a tasty starter before my yakitori came. Ended my dinner with a spicy tuna hand roll! The shiitake mushroom yakitori could use a little more salt and the chicken gizzard was a bit tough but flavors are there. The beef was tender and tasty! All would've been great with a beer to wash down but I opted for a sprite :) The spicy tuna was very flavorful and had a great kick. The whole time you could see and hear the owner(?) coaching and training the staff through service and how to handle customers. So far a decent soft opening--would certainly come back for their official grand opening! read more

We came to the soft opening and realized this restaurant replaced i20. The pork belly and chicken skewers could have been salted more and also been more tender. The agedashi tofu was good but could have been cut into more bite size pieces. I would say the price point at this place is very high for extremely small portions. Definitely considering it's still a soft launch, but as of now, they have meat skewers, sashimi, hand rolls, and some appetizers. They had also run out of some meat skewers when we arrived. Service was good and the restaurant itself is very clean. I left hungry after ordering multiple dishes so I gave it couple stars. read more

Loved our lunch at Cocone! Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful--especially the mentaiko udon and gyudon. The presentation was beautiful, and you could tell the chef puts a lot of care into each dish. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive. They brought out a high chair and kids' utensils without us even asking, and made great recommendations for our little one. Calm, cozy vibes and genuinely welcoming to families. Don't bother. No flavor. Borrrrrring. Ton Katsu should NEVER be boring. Tempura was grease laden. AND boring. What? That takes skill. AVOID.THIS. PLACE. read more

Start to finish, this place was excellent and a welcome addition to our neighborhood. I liked pretty much everything we had for lunch, which isn't something that can said about a lot of restaurants. We'll be back for dinner soon. Start with the salad, soup and fresh fruits that come with every entree. All the items were freshly cut and neatly arranged at a side station. I appreciated the attention to detail -- they very easily could've just made it salad greens and dressing, but there were fresh cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, tofu, carrots, and pickled radish. It was much tastier than it needed to be. The same goes for the fruit, which was beautifully cut and arranged, with fresh pieces of strawberries, papaya, bananas and oranges. Again, little things like this were appreciated and elevated the dining experience. We also ordered the gyoza and potato croquettes, which were both very good. I liked how plump and crispy the gyoza was. A lot of restaurants will give you five pieces of gyoza that are sort of stuck together, and you can tell they were pulled out of a freezer before being pan fried. These were different and much better. The panko on the croquettes also had a good crunch and was perfectly seasoned, and the potatoes inside were nice and soft. For entrees, I had the Tan Tan Noodles. I didn't know what to expect but can say that this felt like the perfect dish for a hot summer day. The cold broth was lightly creamy and flavorful with a slight kick, and the noodles were thick and had a great chew to them. I finished the whole thing and was surprised at how full I felt after. It was so tasty. My wife ordered the tempura + udon, and had more or less the same things to say. The main word was "flavorful." She loved the broth and the texture and taste of the noodles. The ambience was cute and quiet, and the service was really friendly. The owner was really sweet and offered our kids some cotton candy that they could make from a machine at the front of the restaurant. I'm really looking forward to coming back to try some yakitori and cold beer. Excited to have Cocone here in Fullerton. read more

My new go to Izakaya that's super close. Everything we had in the soft opening menu was great. Yoshi sent out dishes for us to try + Orion beer. It's really rare to find this quality in Fullerton and had to drive to Torrance or Little Tokyo before. I'm picky. AYCE sushi or other Japanese restaurants even in Yorba Linda doesn't cut it for me. This does and looking forward to the full menu. read more

It was a soft opening, and by around 6 pm, all tables were filled with customers, which suggested it was really good and hard to wait to try the food. After half an hour, we got a seat. We started with Orion beer, imported from Okinawa, which is hard to find in other stores. We began with Takoyaki (6 pieces), which was good and exactly what I expected. We also had mixed tempura, chicken, beef tongue yakitori... and more drinks were calling. We enjoyed hand rolls, Okonomiyaki, and spicy tuna rolls, among others. Every dish served was the best in Fullerton. If you want to have fun eating various yakitori with friends, this is a place you shouldn't miss. Additionally, the servers were very friendly and energetic in serving customers. read more

The restaurant was extremely clean, and all the food were top quality! The takoyaki came in portions that were more than enough for two people (8 pcs), potato croquettes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside (4 pcs, with comes with sauce), yakisoba was wonderfully seasoned with delicious bits of seafood and bacon paired with ginger slices, and the pork katsu help up to the standard with soft textures. The salad bar was a nice touch along with the customer service! read more

I visited with my two kids, ages 6 and 8, and they enjoyed the food so much that I felt compelled to leave a review. The pork cutlet (tonkatsu) was perfectly crispy and had a rich, savory flavor. The tonkatsu sauce was a traditional Japanese style made with freshly ground sesame seeds, and they recommended trying it with mustard and wasabi. I did--and the spicy, clean flavor was absolutely excellent. The takoyaki had a clean, nutty taste that stood out, and the yakisoba was unforgettable with its umami-rich sauce and delightfully chewy, savory noodles. There was also a type of udon dish that came with a salty dipping sauce--unfortunately, I forgot the name--but I highly recommend it! The chewy udon paired with the savory dipping sauce was incredibly delicious, and I'll definitely go back for it. The lunch menu included a small salad bar, and the miso soup, which had clams in it, had a rich, deep flavor. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be returning! read more

Cocone is a unique Japanese restaurant specializing in yakitori, which is expertly grilled over charcoal, giving it incredible flavor, it is not too salty or bland, just perfect! The vibe and service were also top-notch--the staff were so kind and attentive, and our orders came out fast, especially for a soft opening. I highly recommend all the chicken and beef yakitori, the salmon sashimi, the takoyaki, and their draft beers. Went for lunch...menu was a mixture of korean, chinese and japanese dishes so it did not feel quite authentic.
