I honestly don't see the appeal of laying on sand and looking at water but hey ‍ to each is own. Anyways we went early one morning. Cocoa beach is the iconic Florida beach. There is a long boardwalk that at the end is a tiki bar/restaurant. You can look over the water and see all kinds of fish. Pelicans sit on the boardwalk waiting for a fisherman to throw them a fish. Along the boardwalk there is the typical vacation shop. Some of the stores have good buys. I love Cocoa Beach plus it is near Ron Jon's. read more

This was a nice and peaceful beach. However there were a few things that were confusing... Where were the lifeguards? I didn't see one? Do they exist? I really want to know. Also where was the boardwalk? Did they have Ocean City Fries? A bathroom? So I want to guess that maybe I was on the wrong side of the beach? Rather than that... Everything was great. I loved the cheap stores across the street that sold beach attire. I got a chance to buy some towels and they had other things like buckets and shovels for sand. This may not be the Caribbean but Cocoa Beach is really nice beach. The beach is so long and great to just walk around the shorelines and just enjoying the ocean view. The sand is soft and grainy. Kids can really have fun making sand castles and other creations. Since the beach is free with no private area, everyone can really enjoy the beach. There is no one trying to sell you anything or harass you. Close to civilization as there are numerous restaurants and business in the area. On a rainy NYC Day I'm dreaming of the times I spent driving to Cocoa Beach to spend the day. It was a long drive from South Florida. I enjoyed the day surfing with friends. We arrived before the sun came up and left when it went down. For Florida Surfing the waves were pretty decent. The sand is fine grain and clean. We always found a desolate spot. Most of the time uninhabited, free of life guards. I was young and took lots of risks back then. If you're a beach goer this beautiful beach is a must if you live or vacation in the area. Times have changed since I was a frequent visitor. One thing that will never change is the beautiful sand, sea, and salty air. read more

The beach was super clean and was not crowded. The beach doesn't stand out though from others I have visited. I would say very family friendly. The water was not clear but more in the brown side. Wow this was one of the most peaceful beaches I've ever been to. Everything about this beach was so soothing and enjoyable. The feel of the cool clean white sand, the smell of the fresh air from the ocean, the sounds of soft waves crashing on the shore, and best of all no rowdy loud crowds. Ahhh I want to go back. As part of our cruise, port Canaveral was one of the stops in our itinerary. After we docked, we took a taxi to Cocoa beach and had an absolute blast here. Cocoa Beach is the first place I put my toes in the Atlantic Ocean! We came here for precisely that reason, to put our toes in the water in June 2002 as part of a family vacation (my dad, my mom, my sister, and I). We came in the evening and the view was amazing, the water not too cold, and the beach not too busy. There's lots of sand to spread out and enjoy beach activities. I was used to less urban beaches, so for me that was a new experience. Not the biggest fan of a beach right next to a road and a lot of buildings/people. Still a nice place to go to though. read more

We really enjoyed our visit here. We had a delicious dinner at a restaurant on the pier and then walked across the beach after dark, letting the waves wash up on our feet. The kids found a little crab in the sand that we petted before it went on its way. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This was our first time to Cocoa Beach, and it did not disappoint. Cocoa Beach is less than impressive. Every time I have been here, I found it to be dirty and uninteresting. Plus, the sand hurts! It's riddled with Little Rock's and whatnot and literally physically hurts as you walk on it. Also, the parking ticket machine doesn't work properly...it supposedly accepts card as payment but it doesn't actually work. If you're out of cash, you're out of luck! I recommend staying away from Cocoa Beach. There are far better beach options! read more

Cocoa Beach is by far my favorite local beach. I have been visiting for years and each time I have a blast. The beach access points are wheelchair accessible with my wheelchair up to the sand and then I use a beach chair, or at times just chill on the wooden deck overlooking the beautiful scenery. There are so many local shops, restaurants, and chill spots that after 8hrs I'm still exploring new spots. The 4th July fireworks are so much fun and is what sparked me to write a review. The fireworks are big and on point for family fun on the holiday. Clean sand and water access make this my favorite local beaches. I highly recommend a visit. read more

During our vacation in Orlando, we definitely wanted to take a break away from the usual theme parks and go someplace more realistic! Joe had noted that Cocoa Beach was in the vicinity of the Kennedy Space Center and seeing the Atlantic Ocean would be an interesting comparison to the Pacific Ocean. I had another but humorous reason for going here too! When I think of Cocoa Beach, it reminds of the old "I Dream of Jeannie" television show in which Jeannie and Major Nelson resided. I wanted to be able to joke that I was actually where these TV characters had once been! Ha! We drove around a few times in hopes of someone leaving their spot for us to grab. But then something unexpected happened! An elderly gentleman in a wide brim straw hat began waving at us, beckoning for us to drive behind his house which was located right along the main road a short walk to the beach trail. For only $10.00, we could have VIP parking right in his driveway! Another couple got to park right next to us as we unloaded our vehicles in preparation of heading to the beach. It seemed too good to be true, be we weren't going to look a gift horse in the mouth! However, as we started walking away, I noticed a sign in front of the man's house that said that it was a tow away zone for anyone who was found blocking the driveways. We kept on walking, but I started to worry that, what if the man didn't really live there and he was collecting money from unsuspecting tourists? After we gave him the money, he soon disappeared! Joe kept reassuring me that I was worrying for no reason and that the man really did live there! So I tried to let it go the best I could as we trekked the sandy trail to the beach. My mind finally focused more on the beautiful ocean, crashing waves, and the clean, white sandy beach. We had at first intended to rent some chairs and an umbrella so we could relax on the sand. But for some reason we ended up just walking and walking long distances up and down in the surprisingly warm surf. The whole beach was just mesmerizing! The constant rolling of the waves, the assortment of birds running with the surf, floating in the water or resting in the hot sand. They were entertaining to watch, along with the beach goers as they frolicked in the ocean. Eventually, we grew thirsty and tired of walking, and spotted "Coconuts on the Beach", which is a bar & grill right at the edge of the beach! That's where we were able to regenerate and cool off with a few drinks before having to drive back to our vacation condo. We got back to our car and to my relief, it was still safely parked in the driveway! I was happy that we weren't victims of a parking scam! I was even more thankful to the homeowner who was nice enough to let us utilize his property for a small fee! We had a nice, romantic day on the beach! Iconic. A beach is a beach but this one is a flat slab of sand that's well-manicured with an Atlantic wave or two constantly asking you to come out and play. In no way am I bias since my grandparents live on the beach.. but in all honesty: The sand is soft and often find shells and sandollars in the EARLY a.m. The waves are large enough to surf, ride, and etc. Lifeguards keep you safe, as well as entertained doing non stop pushup sessions. Definitely a place for families and children. There are so many children running and playing that the beach can become crowded quick. In this instance, I did not like this because there wasn't much swim room for teens or adults to be comfortable. You could simply make the mistake of hitting a small child. I live my life one beach at a time. I'm lucky that I've seen countless sunsets, sunrises, warm rains, full moons and hot days on black, green, red, and white, perfect sandy beaches. Life is good when all you have is the sky, the ocean and a warm breeze. And Cocoa Beach is no different. Yes, one can argue for one of the many hot, party and more popular beaches in FL but I suppose that's why I like it. It's uncrowded, clean, has easy waves and there aren't supermodels at every turn you have to compete with. It's nice that you can park less than a five minute walk from the sand and there are no street meters, endless driving for a good parking spot, or expensive parking lots to deal with. However, I cannot stress my hate for tolls. Ugh. From Orlando alone, it felt like a dozen tolls. But I won't take out my anger for endless tolls on the beach; it's not their fault Florida hates everybody. But I digress. Cocoa, don't you change. OK, can I just say how much I love this little, old school beach town? Cocoa Beach is laid back, you'll not find any trendy bars or restaurants here, just lots of tourists and surfers dressed casually, here to enjoy the beach and the several unique mom and pop-style restaurants, bars and hotels that this town offers. If you'd ever been to, say, Daytona Beach in the mid to late 1980s, that gives you a general idea of the scene you'll find in Cocoa Beach: Decent beaches, a pier, good surfing, maybe a dozen low rise chain hotels, and lots of one off hotels, motor inns, large tacky looking surf shops and souvenir shops (the ones that are a few storeys high with full height glass windows, and signs that are painted in bright neon colors with bubble letters, advertising huge discounts and proclaiming that everything in the store is on sale!). You'll also find a few "gentlemen's clubs" here and there as well - all of them a bit seedy and tacky looking and prominently advertising free admission to military personnel. As far as I can tell, the biggest claim to fame here is the Ron Jon Surf Shop that you'll see advertised on creative billboard signage along the I-95 and Florida Turnpike for miles around. One thing that can't be overstated is the friendliness of nearly everyone in this little beach town. Seriously - the service staff, hotel staff, bartenders and even patrons.. All friendly, outgoing and accommodating. If you're staying in this area and are looking for larger chain restaurants or malls, you'll find those a short drive away in nearby Merritt Island. Personally, I'd stick with the more creative and unique offerings in Cocoa Beach itself. read more

How lucky. Arriving on an early Friday afternoon, we were surprised to find that this beach was not the least bit overwhelming. We found free parking across the street from the parking lot and the metered parking littered everywhere here, and walked a short distance across the tiny boardwalk to find a fella renting beach umbrellas and chairs. Score! He also had boards for rent. And another bonus: Because it was so windy that day (like, 10 mph winds), he set up everything for us. How sweet is that?! I found that folks were pretty mellow at this beach. No loud talking. No pounding bass coming from speakers. No unruly, testosterone and estrogen-driven individuals racing around, kicking up sand. No crying babies. What a treat. And there were people in the water! Frolicking and playing in the water. Yes, shark attacks are a real threat here, but nothing so serious that you should avoid dipping into the water. At least that's what we were told. Sure, there is plenty to eat and drink nearby, but just be sure to pack a lunch for cost savings. And not too bad a drive from Orlando. But, goodness, lots and lots of toll booths on the way!!! So prepare your wallet to spent $1 and $1.25 often. read more

During my cruise in July this beach was the closest beach on the Post Canaveral stop. The beach was nice and you can rent chairs and umbrellas for a fee. It cost about $10 per chair to rent for the day. If you are traveling I suggest renting an umbrella, it gets very hot here and there isn't any shaded area. You can get some sun screen and a snack about 3 blocks away from the beach. The beach is kept clean and the sand is not burning hot. The water is nice a warm, however on the day that I went there was a lot of seaweed. That night I found seaweed everywhere! Yikes! I agree with the other reviewers wear sun screen and wear a hat if you need it. You will definitely burn at this beach if you don't rent an umbrella. I didn't rent anything I just wanted to relax on the beach and I was planning on staying for more than a few hours. I was not able to spend the day here, it was a very hot July day but the time that I did spend here I had a wonderful time. Getting there: -From Port Carnaveral FL, it cost $8 each person round trip. You can ride a taxi shuttle with other people. -I saw on my uber app that there were uber cars nearby it cost about $10-$12 from the port to the beach one way. If you are more than 2 people this might be a better deal for you. -No Lyft available here! If you decide to stay here I saw small hotels by the beach. I didn't see any big hotels nearby. I saw hotels of about 2-4 stories high by the water. On the road on the way to the beach there were bigger hotels but they were not walking distance from the beach. read more

Not easy to find parking on a sunny Saturday in April and unfortunately there were no food or drink vendors near us and no showers either. Would have liked to hang out at a bar or restaurant in the area but not feeling all sticky and full of sand. I really dislike being negative, but this is just a terrible beach. Not particularly pretty sand nor water, lots of people, somewhat rough crowd, not a family atmosphere in my opinion. Areas/neighborhood nearby are not nice. Also horrible parking. Hard to even find a $30 spot to park. Would not visit this beach again. Granted, I'm sure the holiday made crowds and parking worse. Only reason I gave 2 stars is b/c it is still the ocean and the ocean always has some element of beauty to it. read more

I came here during my trip to Orlando to visit a nearby beach. Cocoa Beach was about an hour away (versus 1.5-2 hours to other beaches). The town of Cocoa is a small beach town for sure with a relaxed vibe. The beach itself is clean (didn't see a single piece of trash on the beach!) and the water was nice as well. It was not crowded when I went (November) due to the red tide. I'm guessing it would be busier in the summer and without the red tide. read more

Nice beach to visit if in the Orlando area. Finding a paid parking spot in close proximity to the water in July is comparably easy and affordable. The water is warm and there is enough space to hold a crowd. Waves were minor so very suitable for families with little kids. The sand is yellow, medium fine, so not to be mistaken with the powdery white you see at the gulf coast. Same for the water. If you are looking for turquoise and clear, this is not the place to bring your snorkel. read more

Huge five stars for this awesome beach! My friend took me here for an afternoon of relaxation and that's exactly what we did - relax! Somehow, even with so many people around us, the atmosphere was perfect. I guess people just know how to act around here and we were all able to be near each other yet stay out of each others' way. Imagine that?! Gorgeous white sand, cool water and the sound of the waves crashing. The sun made frequent appearances and it was just a beautiful day. Logistics - parking was a breeze and really like that the bathrooms are close to the beach. And pretty clean for beach bathrooms, quite honestly! I've been almost all beaches in Florida. The Cocoa Beach is just regular beach, nothing special here or maybe to others. I'm saying "maybe" because I had bad experience It was love-bug season (May and Sept.) Everywhere was love bugs. Its looked so gross and I got goosebumps when I saw pile of them together like bee hive. But it seem fine to local people. I guess they get used to it. Remember to buy bug spray to protect the windshield. During season, you can get lots of them stick to the front car and windshield. Its can be very sticky and hard to wipe with car wiper if you don't spray ahead of time. read more
