Let's jump right in and get to it. To start, Coco Shrimp originated in the downtown DFW area by Isaac and Lauren Hadley along with some family members. They loved the food of Oahu, which I fully agree, is flavorful and fantastic. and I'm glad to see they're making their way south *come to Houston next?!* Location & Parking - 3.5* (5* if walking) I always like making a visiting to CS since my days living here. What I don't love is the level of change for the worse as real estate developers (in this case a PPP b/w Midway and the University) continue to bleed college kids, or their parents, for more money. So what am I ranting about as it pertains to Coco Shrimp? The parking sitch! This gem of a food spot is located in Century Square, which in itself is excellent for walking to if you're a student on campus or nearby resident. It's not so great for locals or anyone who has to drive here. The spaces are pay to park all around this area. Now, it is gratis for the first hour if you register in the ParkMobile app, and that is only good once per day. For Coco Shrimp that's plenty of time to dine and enjoy a quick catch up with friends, but no hanging around unless you want to take your chances with what are surely underpaid parking attendants just doing their jobs for the RE overlords. For reference, 1-2 hours it is $3.00, for 2-3 hours it is $4.00. Check the Century Square website, or the parking app, for the latest pricing. There is a solution to this, but I'll end this rant here. So off the bat, the whole pay to park just grinds my gears as an old timer who remembers a much different Aggieland. I'll go yell at a cloud now. Interior / Vibe - 5* Once you handle your parking situation it's all on the up from here. The interior layout, character, and vibe is solid. It definitely has the island life and chill vibe you get with little spots on the island. They have plenty of seating to meet a group of friends and they are quick to greet you. All of the interior was very clean and well kept. It shows the workers take pride and enjoy it here. Food - 5* The concept is simple, which is what makes it genius. They offer primarily rice and salad with your choice of shrimp options: spicy, sweet & spicy, butter garlic, lemon herb, or a sampler. Breaded/fried or grilled only for the options. I inhaled my entire meal, it was fantastic and I would easily eat here frequently if given the chance. The taste of Hawaiian island life is here and it's delicious. Service - 5* It's counter style ordering here and they do their best to locate you when your order is ready. They are quick to greet and they are really helpful in guiding you through the menu options. I love the sustainability aspect of providing a souvenir style cup that makes for a great cup at the house but also a discounted refill cup when you return. Really solid on their part. Cost / Pricing - 4.5* I say it all the time, this is subjective. I find it to be good value. Is it the same cost as a food truck in Hawaii that will get ya a meal for $5-10 bucks? No, is it a solid portion of fresh rice and salad, shrimp, and quality to bring it and satisfy a normal appetite? Absolutely. I think it's a fair balance. Overall - 4.5* I'm rounding up here since we can't score half ratings. I am tempted to knock it to a four star given the parking, but it's not entirely in their control aside from leasing elsewhere - I'm sure they wanted to be close to campus for strategic reason. As someone who worked in the industry, knows the work it takes day in and day out, I couldn't be happier for these folks. I'd love to meet them and have very real conversation about a Houston location. There are plenty of staples to visit in the BCS area, but this place is definitely one of my faves to visit in DFW or CS when looking for a quick, fresh bite. Come check it out! read more

Coco is a nice change-of-pace spot for a lighter lunch/dinner. We took the advice of others and got the sampler platters. Think the clear winner was the original Coco Shrimp -- the butter shrimp, spicy, and sweet/spicy were all good, but were maybe trying a little too hard. Generous rice portion with the platter (enough to make this into two meals with leftovers). Great service, tasty hibiscus tea. Note that this is in Century Square, so you have to deal with that parking situation. read more

College Station brought a new spot to eat and since I was back in town for some business, decided to give it a try for dinner. First off, I really enjoyed the customer service. I always appreciate when the staff is patient with me while I decide what I want to eat for the first time lol. The aesthetic was also just right, not too much not too little. I love plants and was obsessed with how there were a multitude of beautiful plants in the building. My friend and I both got the 'Sweet & Spicy' shrimp plate. Portions were nice and I like the combination of salad, rice, and shrimp - it felt very balanced. Taste wise - was pretty good I'd give it a 7.5/10. Shortly into the meal I started thinking that maybe I should've gotten the combo of the different shrimp flavors just to see what the other ones were like. This is likely what I would do next time. My friend opted to add six extra pieces of shrimp which I would also recommend because they give you a heft amount of rice. Pricing was pretty standard also. I think this is a good place to try if you're in the mood for a nice meal that's not too heavy and can go a long way. read more

Absolutely fantastic spot! I love the walk-up and order concept... super laid back and easy. If it's your first time, the sampler meal is the move. You've got to try the coconut shrimp (so crispy and sweet), the spicy shrimp (perfect kick), and the garlic butter shrimp (super rich and flavorful). The only mistake I made was not getting extra garlic butter sauce to pour on my rice! Everything was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. It was so good. We got it to go a second time! This was my first time visiting Coco Shrimp! This is a great concept for those that like shrimp. There are many different styles of shrimp from garlic, to lemon, to shrimp tacos. Inside the store is smaller but there is still table and chairs and small booth seating. The ambiance is nice for a little date night or just a good place to get food. The lights are dimmer around dinner time. The cashiers at the front are very attentive and I really appreciate how friendly they are. One cashier in particular was very accommodating and helped me with my ordering!! Garlic shrimp: It comes with a lotttt of rice if you get the salad on the side. I like that you are able to get the salad on the side as I am particular about warm lettuce. The garlic shrimp is VERY BUTTERY. There is a lot of butter on the rice and shrimp so be warned if you don't like butter. I wish there was more shrimp to rice ratio but overall it tasted pretty good! read more

Although the price is daunting at first, the shrimp is very good. I ordered the shrimp sampler which blew me away. The coconut shrimp and lemon herb shrimp were by far my favorites and they tasted very tender and juicy! I wasn't hungry enough for the plate with rice, salad, and shrimp, so I ordered the Coco Shrimp tacos with avocado (a $1 up charge). The tortillas were perfect and soft. The avocado made the tacos a little too full and more difficult to eat. The shrimp tacos hit every flavor note. The sweet chili sauce was a nice touch. My table was dirty with some sauce on it. I had heard great things about Coco Shrimp, so I was excited to try it. I ordered my food through Uber Eats and picked it up in-store. The interior is very nice, and I only waited a few minutes before a worker picked me out in line and asked if I was picking up an order. I chose to have my salads packed separately from my rice and shrimp, so I wasn't able to select my dressing online. I explained this to the worker, and he happily got me two poppyseed dressings (delicious!). I didn't eat in-store, but one thing I really appreciated about the venue was the 15-minute curbside parking spots, so you don't have to risk parking in paid spots. I deducted stars because the dressings that come with the salads aren't enough to coat the whole salad, and the shrimp-to-rice ratio is really off. There's a lot of rice and very little shrimp, and of course, there's an upcharge if you want extra of either. Other than that, I really enjoyed my meal! I got the butter garlic shrimp plate with poppyseed dressing for my salads. I would return, but I don't see it as something I'll crave. read more

The shrimp tacos were fantastic. A bit too sweet for me so I most likely wouldn't go back. I wish there was a HOT chili sauce to go with them. They are lightly fried in an Asian type chili sauce. I ordered avacado on them and I received a generous portion of avocado. The price is fantastic as well. I also ordered the spicy shrimp plate and it's definite pass for me. Okay this place is fire!!! My wife and I were in the area and wanted to try something different. I recommend getting the "sampler" so you can try multiple flavors. Coco Shrimp is a new restaurant in Century Square. It's modeled after the shrimp trucks found on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. I lived in Hawaii for 11 years and frequently dined at the shrimp trucks on the North Shore (Haleiwa and Kahuku). Coco Shrimp has got it right! I ordered the shrimp sampler with coconut shrimp, spicy shrimp and garlic shrimp for $12.95. The shrimp was super fresh and cooked and seasoned to perfection. The meal is served in a cardboard box just like they do in Hawaii. The 7 shrimp were accompanied by warm white rice that was wonderfully seasoned with herbs and sea salt and a fresh salad with two kinds of dressing (creamy ginger and poppyseed). I added grilled pineapple to the salad which was a great addition. The restaurant features a large indoor and outdoor dining areas with wooden tables equipped with a roll of paper towels at each table. There is definitely a Hawaiian vibe with a decor of surf boards, videos of Hawaii and pleasant Hawaiian music playing. The staff were very knowledgeable of the menu and offered excellent suggestions to "first timers". The owner made the rounds to greet customers, answer questions and give suggestions as well. I had a strawberry lemonade which was good and if you save the cup and bring it back you will get your drink for $0.99 with free refills. The restaurant is very clean. The only drawback is you have to pay for parking in Century Square. Coco Shrimp is closed on Sundays when parking is free. They also serve shrimp tacos and mochi ice cream that I'll have to try on a future visit. I loved my first visit to Coco Shrimp and I will definitely be back! read more
