The food at Coco Hut is honestly the highlight -- the chef is killing it with flavorful Caribbean plates that taste fresh and homemade. I'd easily give the kitchen 5 stars on its own. But the overall experience brings it down to 3 stars. Prices feel high for the casual setup, the place looks tired and really needs a thorough cleaning (a deep clean and freshening up the vibe would instantly boost customer enjoyment a ton), and better interaction with guests would make a huge difference -- friendlier service, quicker check-ins, and making people feel truly welcomed would go a long way. As a local I'm still rooting hard for them because the potential is there and the music is solid. spruce up the space, and improve guest interaction and this spot would be packed and loved by everyone. Definitely worth trying for the food, just come with realistic expectations read more

I was excited to try Coco Hut after seeing photos of the food and drinks online, but my experience was disappointing. I placed a pickup order and waited longer than expected for it to be prepared. When I received my food, the tacos were cold, and the watermelon refresher looked very different from what was advertised. For a $31 order, I expected better quality and presentation. The food wasn't terrible, but it did not match the expectations set by the restaurant's marketing, and receiving cold food after a long wait was frustrating. I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that consistency and quality improve in the future. read more

I felt like I was robbed because the food was so horrible. I ordered a jerk shrimp plate w/rice and peas, cabbage, and salad. I received yellow rice instead of the rice and peas. Ok, that's fine, but the yellow rice was hard. The shrimps are the frozen already cooked cocktail shrimps that were recooked. The cabbage tasted like water. Nothing was jerked, like no jerk flavor at all. All I tasted was the dirty grill. Social media influencers hyped this place, and they're lying. Also, it was so hot in there! read more

The smells coming out of this place was calling me. I was already looking for a bite to eat, and that awesome aroma made it easy. I was not disappointed at all. I opted for the spicy jerk chicken. The lady preparing the food asked if I was sure I wanted spicy because it was not the typical American spicy. I opted in to take the plunge. My nose did run, yes. However, the flavors of the chicken were intense and good. So the spiciness was worth it.  It was served with plantains, green salad,  yellow rice, and cabbage, all of which were good. The lady taking my order and the lady preparing the food were both dynamic. They provided excellent customer service. read more

Portions were massive, and super flavorful! Would definitely recommend the curry goat, the worker said it had been marinating for a few hours. Service was super fast, they had my food ready for takeout within three minutes! Parking was super easy on the street. Paid about $17 read more

AMAZING! Food is so good, and it's a mom and pop shop! The street is filled with amazing places. But this place was so good! Amazing jerk salmon! Will for sure come back when I visit NOLA again! read more

The best food! Friendly service! Hole in a wall, but worth the good food. I will visit every time I'm in New Orleans!

Great food, that's for sure. Unfortunately, the price for that food is ridiculously high - especially since a takeout platform lists the plate price at about half what we were charged at the restaurant. It was over $50 for 2 people, even without anything other than water to drink. So, yes the food is great but they don't instill much confidence since there's no prices listed and they can charge you what they want. read more

I would love to make this a five star review because I like the food. The chef cooks her ass off in fact. Here's the issues. Despite what you see online, the prices are HIGH. Around $30 for a plate. Possibly in the context of a more upscale establishment these prices might make more sense but not in the context of this unclean cafe. Yes, that's another issue. This place is not clean. It's a bit dingy and crusty. It does not inspire confidence that hygiene is a priority in the kitchen. As a local I would love to be a regular here. With a deep cleaning, some basic renovation and a new business strategy I see no reason they wouldn't be very successful. Ending on a positive, they play good music. read more

So freakin good! When they say spicy, they mean SPICY, but so flavorful & worth it. I don't normally like jerk flavor but the jerk chicken plate with plantains, rice, veggies was so yummy. Beef patty was also amazing! Husband said it reminds him of childhood, lol. Best, these ladies working there were sweet & gave us assurance they were halal + let us know a mosque was nearby for Friday prayer. This lil hole in the wall is the real deal- Support local! Paid $80 for 2 plates and 2 drinks. The quality wasn't $80 worth.. especially since it was a hole in the wall. I'm annoyed that I paid $30 for chicken thighs, rice, greens, and a salad. Couldn't even sit down inside. The service was ok. Nothing spectacular. Like I said, it was a walk up window. read more

So much YES. First of all, who doesn't love a good hole in the wall? Second of all, this is some of the best food I've ever had. I ordered the spicy jerk chicken and it was EXACTLY that--SPISAYYYYY (spicy). The plate come with a salad and Spanish rice. Both are really good, but I'm here to tell y'all about the spicy jerk! The meat was so tender. Fall-off-the-bone, melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly seasoned, tender chicken! Although I highly recommend the chicken, the cashier told me that the jerk salmon was the best thing on the menu. I can't imagine anything would top the jerk chicken, so I will be back to see for myself. They have one outside table to sit at, and maybe 3 or 4 tables on the inside. It's a tiny/tight spot, that could use some updated design. The owner is behind the counter cooking as you order, and you can see the magic happening! I dined in with a friend, and we waited less than 20 minutes on the food. Bonus: order the hibiscus juice! the juice is freshly made and garnished with a mint! Very refreshing! read more

Quite possibly the best food place I was able to go to in New Orleans. Place is outside of Bourbon Street on a street filled with black-owned businesses - definitely not a tourist trap and a very underrated area. Service was quick, very accommodating, and welcoming. Food is a little on the pricier side but it's very much worth it. Definitely felt a genuine sense of Southern hospitality there. Cannot recommend enough. read more

Fabulous jerk chicken plate and great vibe! Bayou Road neighborhood is also a great find. We will be back... often!

I'm not sure where to start for Coco Hut. We had an Uber driver recommend us to come here. The menu is written on a whiteboard with no pricing so you're going in blind. There's a few tables in the restaurant and is very cramped. We ordered the jerk chicken po boy and bbq shrimp. Bbq shrimp came with a salad and cabbage. I didn't care for either side. Pass on the bbq shrimp as it was swimming in sauce. The rice ended up being soggy which was unappealing. The jerk chicken Poboy saved the day. It was flavorful and packed with chicken. We ordered two drinks and our total came up to $33. Pricey. I'd pass on this place. read more

First of all, it is cash, cash app or Venmo only, so make sure you plan accordingly. The food is amazing. We walked up and the lady said the chicken was fresh and she had just made some cane juice and hibiscus drinks. Obviously, that's what we had to get. I just got the jerk chicken plate, $20, and my husband got the jerk chicken wrap, $16, just to mix it up a little. They did have a little clipboard with the menu and prices. You just walked up and ordered, we had to sit outside. Not a deal breaker for us, but if you are looking for inside dining, this wasn't. Service was really good though, the lady was super friendly, and the guy that brought us the drinks was nice as well. Wow, we got so much food! If it hadn't been so hot, we probably would have eaten a lot more of what we had. They give you a LOT of food! The wrap was so packed, stuff was falling out. The food is definitely freshly prepared. You could see them working in the back. My plate had veggies (mostly cabbage, and some carrots), rice, plantain, and a salad. The wrap was massive and had a salad on the side as well. The drinks, Aretha Franklin, went so amazingly well with the flavors of the food, and were so refreshing on a hot day! My one and only complaint was the shock of the price at the end when we had to pay. The drinks were $8 each. Our bill totaled $52. Not exactly what we like to spend for lunch, but everything was so good. They are good. They know it, and charge for it. If you want good food though, you'll pay it. read more

I been coming to this place for years , was very disappointed when I ate there on 3/15/24 order a jerk chicken salad an the chicken wasn't jerk it's usually jerk chicken off the grill but she gave me sautéed chicken strips was very disappointed for 20 dollars three small strips I could have went to Wendy,s and got a salad.. read more

Amazing, even the side dishes! Heads up they only take cash. Great customer service as well!

We ordered the super yummy jerk chicken plate and po boy. The sides are rice, which was a bit dry, and a fermented salad. Plate was missing the plantains. The po boy came with the average restaurant fries. The jerk spices were divine! Would go back to try their other food items. Take out only for now and their hours vary so call before you go. Now, I'm not a big fan of Caribbean food, but this place was absolutely delicious! Yes, it's a little hole in the wall, but generally, that's where the best food comes from. The person inside was sooooo friendly! I can't wait to be able to go there again. read more

They're rude, customer service is very lackluster and the food isn't that good. I've given them several tries.

Motha Natcha really knows how to cook up some authentic Jamaican food. She's owned her spot in this rasta nook of Esplanade for 16 years. Her dishes are straight forward: jerk or curry of whatever meat with rice and peas, cabbage, salad and plantains. My friend ordered the jerk shrimp ($13) and I got the jerk chicken ($11). You definitely get more for your money with the chicken. Both were delicious and cooked in Motha Natcha's homemade jerk. The mild is spicy so the hot is fire. I loved every bite of it. The food is made to order so don't show up right before closing or you're likely going to get whatever is left. The personalities in this shop are definitely part of the experience. Compared to Boswells I think the jerk here is better but I haven't tried their curries so that's still up for debate. There is a small shelf of products for sale.. Jerk sauces, seasonings etc. Parking right out front. Definitely a must-try if you want the real deal. read more

I came here and tried the jerk salmon and cane juice first. I. Was. Hooked. It was amazingly delicious, juicy, and tender. The cane juice was out of this world! Mama is real nice, and when it comes to meat, I only eat halal so i went to ask her if she'll make me chicken if I brought her my own. She looked at me and showed me where she gets chicken from. She gets halal chicken!!! So I tried her chicken then and I felt like I hadn't had chicken before eating hers!! It was really delicious! Coco Hut - Dat delicious halal jerk chichen!!! Mmmm - Caribbean Near Me - New Orleans, Louisiana

Located on Bayou, aka "Black Wall Street" because of all the local black-owned businesses on this road, Coco Hut is acclaimed for it's authentic Caribbean food. The owner's husband told me so himself, haha. I got the jerk chicken, spicy. It was a good kick and I definitely needed to continue sipping my fresh lime juice (delicious, if a little too sweet). The chicken came with rice and black-eyed peas, cabbage, and a salad. My friend got the same thing except mild, which to me didn't taste like it had any spice at all. I do agree that the portions could be larger for the price (about $10 per styrofoam plate). The decor is great. The owners are Rastafarian and the wall hangings, pictures, and decoupage on the tables all reflect that (also the reggae that plays quietly in the background). read more

I came with a friend on a Friday evening to enjoy some Jamaican food for our first time. I wasn't so sure what to expect from this place, but I heard really good things about their Spicy Jerk Chicken! This place is super tiny with some tables inside and some outside. My friend and I were happily greeted by a waitress named Britney. I expected to be given menus, but Britney tells us that the menus are outside and points to them. They were on three large white boards leaning outside written with colorful markers. This definitely shocked me, but I love me a good hole-in-the-wall! After looking through the many options they offered, we ordered the Spicy Jerk Chicken Plate, Spicy Jamaican Fried Chicken (Made into a plate instead of just with fries), and Hibiscus Tea. My friend and I chose a outdoor table and noticed the were placed on a slope, so the table was slanted downwards towards the street. We got our drinks and our food came not too long afterwards. I'm not sure how to describe their Hibiscus Tea, but it was different and delicious! It was cooling, sweet, and had a slight spicy kick at the back of your throat after swallowing. Both plates were really good! Why has this been missing from my life for so long?! They were both similar dishes, but the Jamaican Fried Chicken was a bit less spicy and had more crispy skin. The spice level was a nice medium spice that my friend and I enjoyed. Gave us some sniffles, but nothing too crazy. In the middle of our dining experience, we had a small mishap and spilled some of our drinks. Britney quickly came to our rescue and moved us a clean table. We thought we would be taking half of the food home, but we actually finished everything! It was that good! After our meal, we walked inside to get settled out and I met the chef. The chef was such a happy lady and I just had to ask how long they were here, since I had only recently found out about this place. This place has been here for 18 years! Unbelievable! She asked about how spicy was our dishes and I said that it was good level of spice, nothing too crazy. She told me that she made our dishes mild because the spicy level makes some people cry! She might have saved our lives and experiences, but I will definitely be back to see this spicy level for myself! Overall, this place has won my heart over and made a great impression for Jamaican food for me! This place is tiny, so don't come with a huge group. Can't wait for my next visit to try their Homemade Cane Juice and other food dishes! read more

The jerk chicken was amazing! The people were so nice and the general feel was that you were eating at your favorite aunt's house (especially since the lady owner is just one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met). I have to warn you, though, that CoCo Hut is in no way a fancy establishment. As mentioned, it feels like you are eating at someone's residence. The place is smoky and the place is small (and can get crowded easily, I imagine) - but in a pleasant way. It is a bit pricey for NOLA (although reasonably priced by my CA standard), but I think it is well worth it. Sooo good! I asked for the extra spicy jerk chicken and the flavors (note the plural) were just amazing. Usually, when I request extra spicy, all I get is the piquant taste. Here though they are able to deliver a symphony of all other pleasant flavors along with the spice....*sigh* I am drooling just thinking about it... I can't wait to go back here when I am in town! read more
