El Rinconcito.
Mark P.

El Rinconcito is not for those in a hurry. I suggest coming to this restaurant when you have time to kill, but if you do, I think you'll enjoy it. The atmosphere is relaxing and feels homely- it must be the pastel colored walls or the Mexican music coming from the jukebox in the bar, You may have to get a waitresses' attention (both times I went there was only one waitress on duty who also told me she was the cook and the bartender... this was at lunch time) but once you know what you want she'll bring you drinks and have your order up in no time. As for the food itself, it's pretty damn good. So far, I've had the carne asada and the burritos (be warned, these are American sized ones) and I wasn't disappointed. The asada also came with rice, beans, corn tortilla, and chips. Both were moderately priced, I never paid more than 12 dollars. Overall, if you're looking for a relaxed dining experience with a wide array of Latin American food choices then El Rinconcito (NOT El Rinconsito) fits the bill.

a menu for a mexican restaurant

Tiny place, was empty when I got there for an early dinner - which worked to my advantage because I was able to speak to the young lady behind the bar easier. I don't eat meant so she recommended a dish made of mixed seafood and rice with "coco" sauce. Was deelish and not too spendy. I've also attached updated photos of the menu because all I could find online (they don't have a website) were blurry.

Stewed chicken

Came in on a rainy night and had Ms. Shirley as our waitress. Imagine your sweet grandmother serving you...she was very nice. Chips and salsa are complimentary. Also a jalapeño based (sour cream?) which is addictive! I found the salsa to have a sweetness to it that I really enjoyed. Ordered the stewed chicken which came with two corn tortillas, white rice, beans, a salad, avocado, and a block of queso fresco. All for $9. Mrs. Shirley also told us that everything on the menu was available all day...including breakfast! I thought the service was great and timely, and the food delicious and a great value.

Bistec Encebollado, real good!!

My Husband and I had our 22 years Wedding Anniversary…read moreCelebration here April 25 . The Hostess was very inviting . Our Server Katy'a was good and very attentive. Food was succulent. Thank you to the Manager Mike and other Manager too. But the Lady with the black curly shoulder length hair that walked Us next door to Sushi By Us had a nasty attitude and she also tried to rush us from table . All of our Guest was Business Owners and they all said If you was their employee. You would be FIRED and you have no hospitality. You don't have matters. Find another JOB that knows your attitude is bad and nasty !!!!! Everyone that worked in Sushi By Us was great. We will give an awesome review.

I noticed the review from the guy from California who said he's snobby about tacos, and said the…read morefood here is excellent. Spending so much time in New York, I've probably had better, but the food here is still good. This is a small chain (NOLA, Metairie, Baton Rouge, West Palm Beach), outfitted with neon, murals, and pink flowers. The menus are high tech and light up when you open them. We started with the queso fundido, with melted mozzarella, chorizo, pico de gallo, and microgreens. Comes with corn or flour tortillas. It was cheesy and tasted great. They also provide chips and a flight of three salsas. Salsas all had completely different flavors and spice levels, so I enjoyed that. Other options are guacamole (with or without short rib), plain queso dip, short rib bites, and oysters rockefeller. Selections include various tacos. I had the birria tacos, which are served in a dramatic fashion, hanging from a line over the tray, which contained the consomme, salsas, rice, and refried beans. They were juicy and savory and the accompaniments hit the spot. Though I've probably had better birria elsewhere . . . not sure you'll find any better or authentic anywhere in New Orleans. My husband had the fish tacos (ensenada), crispy and covered in cilantro, payo, pickled cabbage, avocado, and pico de gallo. The fish was light and the pickled slaw added just the right amount of brightness and acidity. They also have mushroom tacos, chicken, bone marrow wagyu, carnitas, shrimp, and more. They serve larger main dishes including fajitas, carne asada, barbacoa, burritos, enchiladas, and more. They have a great drink menu with the expected margaritas and mezcal as well as some fancy specialty drinks. I has the Hasta el Agua Del Florero, which is vodka, bombay, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and watermelon syrup. It was good, but also 20 dollars. The margaritas of course come a little cheaper at 13 bucks and are decent. Some people complained about service. It wasn't busy when we stopped in, but our server stayed on top of things, the table was always bussed, he kept checking to make sure everything was to our liking. We had no server issues at all. Not sure this would be the top of my list to try of all the choices in New Orleans, but not a bad choice if you're in the mood for a Taco Tuesday or some Mexican chow.

I always get the tongue because it is flavorful and moist and delicious and reminds me of Mexico. Presentation and quality are always consistent! The tortillas are tasty and soft. The green sauce that comes with the tacos is just spicy enough to give it a kick, but not cover the flavor of the tacos. I always get delivery and these are often on sale $10 for three tacos which is a great value. Honestly, these are the best most authentic tacos in town! Caldo de Res is my other go-to dish here. It's $20 but they don't skimp on portions and I usually get two meals out of it. The delicious soup comes with a healthy portion of beef, rice, limes, hot tortillas, and all the fixings. It's the ultimate comfort food. I haven't dined in the restaurant so I can't speak to service, but every order is always correct and well packaged! Seriously add this to your list and thank me later!

The Al Pastor tacos had good flavor, and the shredded beef quesadilla was probably the highlight. I wasn't a fan of the salsa, and the beans and rice tasted like they came from a bag rather than being fresh. It also felt a little overpriced for three tacos. Nothing bad, but nothing that really stood out either. Overall, an okay spot if you're nearby, just not something I'd go out of my way for.

A quick heads-up: expect a line, and the outdoor waiting area has absolutely no shade. Fortunately, the ordering counter is well-covered, and the patio is equipped with fans and a good mix of shaded seating to help you beat the heat. On to the food. Every taco is served on a fresh flour tortilla and paired with classic cilantro, onion, and lime. I tried the Crispy Fish and the Pork tacos, and the flavor profiles were distinct. The fish taco featured a great crunch from the beer-battered Louisiana catfish, balanced by shredded cabbage, homemade crema, a seriously spicy salsa macha, and sweet pops of pomegranate. However, the pork taco was the best of the two, packed with savory roasted pork, chicharrones, tangy pickled red onion, and a great green salsa on the side. I have pretty high standards for tacos, and while I've had better, Barracuda definitely delivers an enjoyable meal in a city where great taquerias can be hard to find.
