Mexican Rice

I recently stopped by Johnny Sanchez and had the elote corn and the $11.11 all-you-can-eat tacos and overall it was a great experience. Food: The elote corn was flavorful and well-seasoned creamy with the right amount of spice and toppings, exactly what you want from a good Mexican street-food style side. The $11.11 all-you-can-eat tacos were a fantastic deal. The tacos were fresh, tasty, and satisfying, with a variety of fillings that kept every bite interesting. The portion size and quality made it feel like excellent value for the price, especially if you love tacos. Service: Service was friendly and efficient. Staff checked in to make sure everything was good, and drinks and food arrived at a steady pace. It felt welcoming without being rushed. Ambiance: The vibe at Johnny Sanchez is lively and fun. It's casual but stylish, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The atmosphere adds to the overall experience and makes it a fun spot to enjoy tacos and good drinks. Overall: Johnny Sanchez delivered great food at a great price. The elote corn was delicious and the all-you-can-eat tacos were a standout deal flavorful, filling, and perfect for taco fans. I'd definitely go back again.

Fantastic service and excellent food! Staff were super friendly and quick - especially considering that we came here after a saints home game. We shared an order of chips and guacamole. There was so much guac that we were able to scoop some into our entrees. I also loved that they served the guac with a combination of plantain chips and tortilla chips. I ordered two shrimp tacos for my meal - the rice was just OK, but the beans and the tacos were fabulous! My boyfriend ordered one of their burritos and he devoured the whole thing. Nothing but great remarks to say about this restaurant.

I was finally able to try Johnny Sanchez after having it on my list of restaurants to try. They did not disappoint! The restaurant was nice, open and really clean. I loved the mural that's on the wall. I was with my coworkers and it was about 10 of us. We were sat promptly and the server brought us water. He took our orders pretty quickly. We had the queso, chips & salsa with guacamole and brussel sprouts for our appetizers. The queso was really good with a nice kick. I don't normally eat brussel sprouts but I decided to try them and they were fantastic! For my entree, I had the chicken fajitas. They were really good as well. I couldn't finish it all. I had the street corn for my side and that was good too! Everything was really good and I definitely come back serval times over!

I hate that I waited so long to try this place. The aesthetic is amazing! A more elevated taco experience but you can dress up or down. I did the unlimited street tacos which were a great deal. I also tried my friend's meatball taco and it was phenomenal! The drinks are so strong. I only needed one. I'll be back for happy hour.

I came here with a group of colleagues for a work dinner. The vibe here is very chill but a bit elevated which I loved. The kind of place you can sit for hours and enjoy yourself. Our waiter was great! He brought the food out quickly and was very attentive for being a group of 10. The endless tacos were pretty good, I wish they weren't so dry. For an $11 endless taco special, you can't beat it! The street corn looked incredible - I wish I would've ordered it.

Tiffany provided Great service, she was very attentive!! It was not busy, she never neglected our table ! She was at the bar, making our drinks and the other drinks once a couple more tables came in! She made our drinks and provided great hospitality! We will be back ! First time at this restaurant and was very much pleased ! Everyone was friendly

Happy Hour Margarita

Stopped in and was delighted to see a happy hour on a Friday evening! Ordered the happy hour margarita with salt - delicious. We also ordered the chips and salsa and queso - all fantastic and seasoned appropriately - not too spicy! The chips and fried plantains were fresh and also had a nice kick to them. We each ordered a quesadilla - one chicken and one shrimp. Quesadillas were nicely portioned. The proteins were nicely sized and freshly cooked. Again - seasoning was on point - not too much and not too spicy! We will definitely be back! Adam our bartender was fantastic as well as the ladies at the front. This is not your regular Mexican food spot - it's better!

Shame on Aarón Sanchez for allowing this place to carry his name and to put out such awful food. Chips and salsa, $6 for average chips and burnt plantain chips. Salsa tasted store bought and that's not a compliment. Rice had zero flavor. Beans were mushy and tasted bitter like the cooks tried to add mole or other seasonings. The "Johnny Sanchez margarita" tasted like a margarita. Nothing special. Service was decent. Came in on a Saturday night and the place was dead. That should have been a sign. The fact we didn't eat our food and the server didn't say anything at all or even ask what was wrong is super concerning. The restaurant was clean and had a nice vibe, cool decor and well lit.

We were looking forward to trying Aaron Sanchez restaurant in New Orleans especially being fans. We came into the restaurant a bit shocked seeing there were no customers on a Friday night except for one lady at the bar. The staff paid no attention to us when we walked in and the lady kept wiping down plates and ignored us for a good 3-5min. Finally someone yelled out and her that there are customers and she finally seated us. It took her a bit of time to come take our order too even tho we were ready and tried to flag the waitress down a few times. We ordered albondigas (meatball) tacos and some chicken tortilla soup on the side. The chicken tortilla soup was flavorful and hearty. The meatballs were had good flavor too and was topped with a few pickled radishes that paired well with the meatballs. The food was actually not bad and was well balanced. The interiors were okay and not too fancy with a more casual atmosphere. However the vibes were really bizarre and very off. The staff didn't seem to want to be there and didn't seem to care. It definitely made the dinner feel uncomfortable and awkward. We probably won't be back here again and don't really recommend this place. It's just a bit disappointing when we had such high hopes for it. Definitely didn't live up to expectations or caliber of what we thought an Aaron Sanchez restaurant would be like.

ALC Cauliflower Taco and ALC Crispy Shrimp Taco

I've been here twice and both times it's been amazing! The servers have been very friendly, especially when I came with a big group last time! Our waiter was very attentive. I tried the chips and queso, which was very good. I'm not a big queso fan but this was delicious! I love how the chips are served with plantain chips too, they're so good! And of course I had to order some tacos again, and they're truly some of the best. The crispy shrimp taco and the cauliflower tacos are so good. I think about them all the time! It's a great location downtown and the restaurant is chicly decorated and very open. I highly recommend!

Unique atmosphere, great location & awesome friendly staff. The fried plantains are really good. Did I mention they had all you can eat street tacos at lunch? When we visited they seemed to be suffering from staff shortage which meant a little longer wait time for our food BUT it came out hot & tasty with apologies for the wait.

I am so happy we stopped in here! Not only does the place look amazing and a beautiful mural, our waitress was amazing! I think her name was Marissa??? Top shelf margaritas were delicious! My friend had an amazing salad pictured that we called the s3xiest salad because it was and she loved it. My tacos were really good and flavorful. Great music played also. I look forward to coming back!

Thought we were going to another taco spot in the area but they were booked for the night, so we had to look for somewhere else to go. I've passed Johnny Sanchez before walking on my lunch break but never tried it so we decided to go there. Outside the restaurant they have the main menu, dessert menu, taco Tuesday menu, and happy hour menu displayed. Once seated inside we were only given the main menu. I thought it was strange on a Tuesday they don't give you the taco Tuesday menu or mention it. When my friend asked about it then the waitress was like o yes we have the taco Tuesday specials but it seems like if you don't look at the board outside you wouldn't know. She decided to get 2 bam bam chicken tacos and rice. She also ordered the cucumber spritz. I am currently on a fast for Lent where I can't eat fried food, bread, or really any carbs so my options were very limited as I could only do the chicken tortilla soup or the salad. Would've been nice if they had make your own bowl or had cauliflower rice substitutions or something. Nonetheless I ordered the chicken tortilla soup. Food didn't take long to come out. The first soup they brought out was luke warm at best so I had to send it back. My waitress was very apologetic for that and the second bowl came out really hot where I could see the steam which I liked. My friend enjoyed her tacos but felt like they were small and probably should've got 3 instead of 2. My tortilla soup was ok, not the best I've had. In the restaurant the workers do a good job of handling tables together. There was another waitress who filled my water without me having to ask and a worker with locs who checked in on us as well to make sure everything was going good. Once I'm off my fast maybe I'll go back to try the endless street tacos for $11.11.

Ask the Community - Johnny Sánchez

Do they have gluten free options?

Visit the website. I can't recall.

Do you need to make a reservation?

No, but on weekends it might be busy

How often is Aaron Sanchez there? What are the odds of getting to meet him?

I doubt too often but you never know!

Is there parking here?

No just street parking. It's free after 7 PM and on Sundays. There's a paid lot close as well.

Anyone know if either of the quesos can be made without chorizo? Thanks!!

Hi Susie! Both the queso dip and queso fundito can be made vegetarian.

Spending so much time in New York, I've probably had better, but the food here is still good. This is a small chain (NOLA, Metairie, Baton Rouge, West Palm Beach), outfitted with neon, murals, and pink flowers. The menus are high tech and light up when you open them. We started with the queso fundido, with melted mozzarella, chorizo, pico de gallo, and microgreens. Comes with corn or flour tortillas. It was cheesy and tasted great. They also provide chips and a flight of three salsas. Salsas all had completely different flavors and spice levels, so I enjoyed that. Other options are guacamole (with or without short rib), plain queso dip, short rib bites, and oysters rockefeller. Selections include various tacos. I had the birria tacos, which are served in a dramatic fashion, hanging from a line over the tray, which contained the consomme, salsas, rice, and refried beans. They were juicy and savory and the accompaniments hit the spot. Though I've probably had better birria elsewhere . . . not sure you'll find any better or authentic anywhere in New Orleans. My husband had the fish tacos (ensenada), crispy and covered in cilantro, payo, pickled cabbage, avocado, and pico de gallo. The fish was light and the pickled slaw added just the right amount of brightness and acidity. They also have mushroom tacos, chicken, bone marrow wagyu, carnitas, shrimp, and more. They serve larger main dishes including fajitas, carne asada, barbacoa, burritos, enchiladas, and more. They have a great drink menu with the expected margaritas and mezcal as well as some fancy specialty drinks. I has the Hasta el Agua Del Florero, which is vodka, bombay, lemon juice, pineapple juice, and watermelon syrup. It was good, but also 20 dollars. The margaritas of course come a little cheaper at 13 bucks and are decent. Some people complained about service. It wasn't busy when we stopped in, but our server stayed on top of things, the table was always bussed, he kept checking to make sure everything was to our liking. We had no server issues at all. Not sure this would be the top of my list to try of all the choices in New Orleans, but not a bad choice if you're in the mood for a Taco Tuesday or some Mexican chow.
