I wish I'd read Yelp reviews instead of Trip Advisor for this one. Visiting Copenhagen for a long weekend from Helsinki, with a husband on the hunt for the best burger ever and a toddler on the hunt for the most french fries ever, I thought this would be a good choice based on reviews from "those guys".
Key items:
-I'm a vegetarian (ew! I know) and their veggie patty is literally zucchini and cheese FRIED into a patty. That didn't work for me. Asking for extra lettuce instead of a bun (Oh I'm sooo high maintenance) resulted in an extra leaf of lettuce, granted: they do put a LOT of lettuce on their regular burgers. All around, my food experience was about a 2 out of 5. The saving grace was the side salad that was perfectly dressed and really generous.
- My husband is an enthusiastic carnivore. His burger was (ironically) MOSTLY lettuce with a pretty small beef patty that he reported was tasty but had nothing on Halifax, just a few minutes away.
-They have a hell of a lot of sides and it's cheaper to just get three at a time. The fries were not so good (my two year old disagreed but this is one area where I don't think his palate is very sophisticated). The onion rings were too soggy for me to taste but my husband and son gobbled them up - reported they were "just ok". Side salad was great.
-Their dips are all the same. They will call them different things but at the end of the day the only one that isn't just plain Hellman's mayo is the chili mayo. It was motherf*cking delicious. I ate it with my fingers and that's just gross. But totally worth it.
-They make some damn fine cocktails. Order any of them. I tried most of them. They were amazing. They made me forget that the food was just so-so.
Here's the real lowdown though: The people are really, really NICE. Like they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and take care of you. Our son loved it here and it's not really a "family" place (which is awesome for us - we don't like "family-friendly", we like "we'll be friendly to your family should you have one" kinds of places). The decor is cool, the lighting is low enough that I didn't feel like a degenerate for drinking a lot, the cocktails are amazing (I know I mentioned that already - it bears repeating). My toddler has pretty discerning taste when it comes to mood and setting and he dug it - no, I'm not kidding. He's a hipster brat and he was totally down.
SO...for a place that's in a hotel in the center of town, it felt more like an off-the-beaten-track kind of place than it is and I can recommend it. But maybe just for cocktails at the really nice bar. read more
