Pork chop with potato pancake
Chuck K.

Had a really nice dinner here and enjoyed all about it. Got a table without problem, which during busy Peaks Island summers is not always guaranteed. We shared a house salad which had an unexpected oriental dressing on it. Nice flavor we both enjoyed, just different than anticipated. Husband got the pork chop topped with bacon jam and it was beautifully finished. The potato pancake was a lovely accompaniment to the chop. I had the Bulgogi Bowl and enjoyed it. Would have benefited from a bit more spice, but nice flavors in the meal. Ambiance is great, price was just under $100 for the two with one beer.

Great food and staff! Ordered a scallop appetizer that was on the list of specials. It was delicious. Also ordered the Beef Bulgogi bowl, which was also wonderful. Good place for small groups.

The view from our deck seating!

I haven't been here in years, but we stumbled in yesterday after drinking wine on a deck overlooking the ocean and it was heavenly. My companions had the almond crusted haddock and a meat bowl, I enjoyed the shrimp scampi. It was really very good, maybe a bit heavy with the sun-dried tomatoes but awesome. We washed it all down with a fabulous wine and chased our great lunch with a piece of homemade Boston Cream pie! I cannot wait to go back and try additional dishes. Our waiter, Jack, was wonderful, prices are very reasonable.

Have to update my review for this spot after spending two nights on the island and eating here twice. The food was AWESOME this time. We have various dishes, with my wife having perfectly cooked salmon and on our final dinner there I had the Beef Bulgogi, which rocked, think Asian fusion. Additionally, the margarita was excellent. The service was great, very attentive, and the prices seemed much more reasonable this time around. I will 100% come back here

Let me start off by saying that coming to Peaks Island during the off season was not the best idea. We didn't realize that the whole island was pretty much shut down, save for a few businesses that were open. The Cockeyed Gull being one of them. It was a particularly cold and blustery day on the island. Trying our hardest to find some respite from the cold, we walked into the grocery store that was next door and grabbed some coffees, not realizing this spot was open. They were cool about us bringing in our coffee. I love the view from here. Nice little space to keep warm while watching the winds out on the water. The waitress who served us was super nice. She knew we were sitting around to kill time so she was fine with us hanging out. We ordered the crab cakes as a starter. This was really good! Hubs got the clam chowder which he liked - I loved the shrimp tacos!! The shrimp were very fresh and plump. I got a Murphy's to drink while waiting around. We also managed to squeeze in dessert. The waitress recommended the carrot cake. It was super delicious!! This place definitely deserves 5 stars.

This restaurant has terrible service and a very rude staff. We arrived and were greeted by a rude, incompetent, apathetic host. After limping down to the restaurant on a sprained knee, I asked for a table and he said he was "full" for the night, but when we looked inside there were over 10 completely empty tables inside and out. We asked why it was empty and he said oh they're coming in the next 30 minutes. Unless 100 people were about to show up, he was about to do no business tonight. The man didn't even offer takeout or for us to make a reservation for the next day. If I could give this dump 0 stars I would. Do yourself a favor and go to island lobster company instead, they had amazing food and service. Edit: you might want to take a look at the scathing reply the owner of this restaurant sent to me accusing me of being drunk. I don't even drink which is what makes this laughable, and he also called us loud and obnoxious when we didn't say anything rude to them at all. To try to discredit my review by saying oh I never ate there so it doesn't matter is one of the dumbest excuses I've ever heard. Service to me is just as important as the actual food in a dining experience. If he was as bold as he acts in private messages, he would have posted this reply for everyone to see. So I'll do him a favor and post it for him.

the sun setting over the water

Wonderful experience! Great menu. We got there at 4:15, sat on the deck and stayed for sundown by 5:45. The haddock and the lobster pasta both lived up to Yelper reviews. As did the carrot cake. Jake was amazing - funny and works hard to take care of everyone be it pre-ferry or those staying on island. We will be back tom

A small restaurant on Peaks Island! What a gem it is. The view that you get by seating outside on their patio over looking the island is breath taking. I wish I took pictures. But seating there on a nice summer day with a glass of wine and watching the sunset with your special someone nothing can beat that. Their food is so amazingly good and the lamb pops was awesome. I'm never a fan of lamb because it's usually too gamey for me but not here. You can't even taste it at all it melts right in your mouth.

Stop by for a pint or two and a tapa..crab cake was spot on!

Great stop for a nice cold beer. Always a great go to spot. Family owned and island proud!

Had a delightful dinner last night with my wife. We live on Peaks close to this restaurant, and meals here are always a treat. The owner is Korean, and the occasional Korean specialties on her menu are especially welcome. I can't remember a mediocre or bad meal here -- ever. Everything about our experience was great -- food, service, view, and more. It began to get a bit chilly sitting out on their perfect deck, but, how much can we ask for -- we're in Maine! Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic dinner at Cockeyed Gull for our anniversary! A good friend of mine is working there for the summer and when I was stumped on where to go for our anniversary, she suggested coming here. It's like a getaway except it's only a 20 - 25 min ferry ride from Portland! I called on Labor Day and snagged us a table for that evening at 6pm. I was told the dinner menu is much different from the lunch menu (which I've never had).We got a table for 6pm and took the 530pm ferry out of Portland. It was a lovely boat ride and the Cockeyed Gull is just steps away from the ferry dock, to the left. We got a spot on the deck (prime spot according to the wait staff!) in the corner. We watched the sun set and enjoyed some beer and wine. The dinner menu is Asian influenced. The owner and her son, who works there, have created a really unique fusion menu for guests! I overheard a couple of folks being worried it was too "spicy" for them because they're used to old school mashed potatoes. I however LOVED the menu. We started off with the lobster and edamame fritters with a spicy dipping sauce. Generous portions of lobster in these for just an app! They were very good and there were way more of them then we expected. For dinner I ordered the asian style lamb chops with bok choy, slaw and potato wedges. The wedges were browned perfectly on the outside and you could soak up the sauce with them. The lamb was cooked medium, just like I asked. Very tender. My husband ordered the hangar steak, medium with wasabi mashed potatoes, ginger pop-over (SO GOOD) and bok choy. The ginger pop-over had just enough ginger, not too much. We were too stuffed to get desert at the end but we we stayed just long enough to finish as the sun went down. We took the 7:45pm ferry back to Portland. It was a beautiful night! If we get more good weather this fall, I encourage Portlanders to take the ferry over to the Cockeyed Gull for dinner. Small town / island life just steps away from bustling Commercial Street!

But the lobster roll a little disappointing it was very "fishy" tasting and the roll was not what you normally expect more of a soft steamed bun. It's also very small but the price is about what you pay everywhere for a lobster roll. I'd recommend going to high roller or if the food truck bite into Maine! It's much fresher tasting lobster.

The Clam Bun - delicious flavor, nice crisp fried clams. Less generous amount of clam on this bun, but still delicious. They substituted pickled jalapeños for the Fresno peppers that usually come on it, but it was still a good flavor combo. Would gladly come here again! And would definitely have another lobster roll!!

Yes, I drove that long to sit at this place and not only have a lobster roll flight but a lobster corn dog as well! We checked in and were sat down and told promptly to let anyone know if we needed anything and we would be helped. Went to order and there was some confusion amongst staff, and instead of taking our order then figuring it out, they had us wait and watch while they sorted things. Sat back down and realized we might have not ordered the lobby pop fried how we wanted but instead regular and went back up to change. Was charged an additional $2 when we had waited through the ordering scuffle and already paid $150. Food was brought to table in an okay span of time, and after drinking my soda, asked for a refill with one of the staff members that brought my food. She said I could go to counter and be helped - ironic after being told anyone could help if we needed anything. Know lobster is expensive, but felt it was overpriced for the experience we had. Seems as though they need to figure out if tables should be served or a kiosk system should be in place. Would not come back or recommend to anyone.

I did a similar meal at street & co as I did scales - oysters and scallops. I enjoyed the scallops slightly better at scales but this was still a win. And the octopus! It feels like a secret, but I know it's not a well kept one! Our server Nico (apologies if I've misspelled that!) was wonderful. He was friendly and helpful when we made our dinner choices. The other servers were also always on top of keeping our table clear and our water filled. The food was absolute perfection. We started with a salad and grilled octopus. The salad was bright and acidic which paired perfectly with the best octopus dish I've had. It was so tender and delicious, I've never had octopus that was that tender. The grilled flavor came through immediately, but never overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the octopus. For mains I had sole francaise and my husband had bone in monkfish. The sole was melt in your mouth good. It was lightly breaded and cooked in a pan with brown butter. It was so toasty and nutty and coated the green beans and simple, but perfect, red potatoes it was served with. My husband's monkfish was fresh and perfectly toothsome, served with fluffy Roman gnocchi and romesco sauce. My only regret is not having enough room for dessert because I'm sure it's incredible as well! I can't wait to return the next time we're in Portland. Just to note: this is one of the least accessibility-friendly areas of the city. The old cobblestone road that it's located on is foot traffic only. The closest approach is if you're dropped off at the end of and it you would still have a short distance to travel. There is a brick footpath on the sides of the cobblestone road that is slightly smoother, but still not ideal. Earlier in the day I was able to navigate the street okay on foot so it will depend on your capabilities. That being said, I took my motorized travel chair down there in the evening and Street and co were happy to let me fold it up and store it near the door.

I dont eat seafood but I keep trying .He gave me a couple of suggestions and explained why he picked the dishes he suggested. I ended up ordering the carrot appetizer. The cod was mild and flakes. The lemon brussel sprout mixture was delicious. This dish made me a fan of cod. I also added the garlic butter rolls. I saw them going by and they were a great add on. Our server described to us the specials for appetizers but never said anything about entree specials (maybe there weren't any?). We ordered the cloverleaf rolls, a cup of clam chowder, a cup of lobster bisque, and the maine mussels before our entrees. Both the clam chowder and the lobster bisque were just ok.. nothing special. The bisque was too sweet and had very little lobster. The mussels were the highlight of the meal. The sauce of cider, mustard and dill was very interesting and had deep flavor. The bread served with the mussels was also delicious. The cloverleaf rolls were great too, but perhaps a little too soggy/greasy from the butter at the bottom of the skillet. For our entrees we had the scallops and the halibut. The scallops were delicious- nicely seared and served with mushrooms and a green pea sauce which was bright and flavorful. The halibut however was not my favorite. The fish itself was cooked very well with a crispy skin, but it was swimming in brown butter and hazelnuts and lacked depth of flavor. It also seemed like an odd choice of flavors for a spring menu. It was served with potatoes that needed a bit more salt. We were too full for dessert and also didn't finish our meals. We sat around for a fairly long time not touching our meals without the server checking on us. Eventually we had to flag them down to get boxes and pay the check. While the ambiance was very nice, for the price and the reputation we expected more. Everything else we have eaten in Portland so far has been fantastic so it was a bit of a letdown.
