    Tostada topped with fish ceviche
    Melody K.

Muy delicioso! I've always wanted to try ceviche, but most are made with shrimp (which I'm unfortunately allergic to). You can only imagine how excited I was when I found out Cocina De Mama made a fish ceviche. They have a little stall set up every other Wednesday at the Blaisedell farmers market. I also ordered a bag of tostadas. I confirmed the fish they use in the ceviche is Ono (and indeed it was ono). There was tons of fish, fresh veggies like tomatoes, onion, and cucumbers. It was soo refreshing. Definitely get the bag of tostadas! The crispy tostada topped with the cool ceviche was perfect. In total, I spent a little under $20 and that was my dinner haha Definitely worth a try! Thanks for reading my reviews! Let me know what I should try next!

I noticed this ceviche stand at the Blaisdell Wednesday farmer's market and thought it would be perfect for a light dinner. Immediately as I walked up, the kind owner offered me a sample. I was already planning on getting ceviche but the free sample sold me! Their ceviche is sold in medium and large sized containers. The medium was the perfect size for me, paired with their homemade, perfectly fried tostados. The tostados come in packs of 3, but the owner was nice enough to give me 2 extra! I found that 5 was perfect for the medium ceviche. It also came with little containers of mayo (to spread on underneath the ceviche) and hot sauce. I haven't tried many different ceviches, but I can say that this one is pretty amazing. I got the mix, which has cubes of Ono fish and shrimp. It was seasoned perfectly and I appreciated that they didn't skimp on the proteins. All the ingredients are chopped finely and evenly so it's easy to get onto the chip. I really loved the depth that the mayo added to the flavor. I will definitely stop here for my ceviche fix any chance I can get!

People...WE HAVE A WINNER! Best Ceviche on O'ahu goes to Cocina de Mama! My man, Alex is serving up some serious good eats and his stall is a frequent stop of mine at the Wednesday night Honolulu Farmers Market. Multiple varieties of ceviche to choose from including an all shrimp, all local seafood or mixed. We always get the mixed. It's fresh, slightly spicy plentiful portion and accompanied with crisp tostadas, hot sauce and Mayo (I slather the tostadas with the mayo before topping with the ceviche. It keeps the tostada crisp!). The perfect weeknight meal! Don't miss picking up some of his smoky salsa! Great on your morning eggs or just for dipping a stray leftover tostada into. On an island not known for great Mexican food, Cocina de Mama is debunking that misconception.

09/03/22 Finally woke up early enough to get to KCC Farmers Market to get more of the ceviche. Soooo good. Alex Rodriguez is the owner, chef and all around nice guy. The ceviche is flavored just right with nice chunks of fish and shrimp and the tortillas are cooked so nice and crispy!

Another terrific Instagram discovery! Check out the menu and pre-order for easy pickup (currently midday Saturdays) from a bright tent set up right outside Palolo Family Store, just mauka of Palolo District Park. Shrimp ceviche, 16oz, $13-14 Nice chunks of shrimp in a light fresh citrusy sauce. The chopped seeded cucumbers were actually my favorite part of this. Ask for a serving of Tapatio and order the tostado shells as an add-on. Both are important additions! Fresh Salsa, 8oz, $7 Not the roasty, saucy, tomato paste kind of salsa from a jar. This one's all fresh ingredients. Not spicy at all, so I liked it. Not sure how this would work for you if you're a hot food lover, though.

Was lucky to be able to try these guys and their shrimp ceviche, tostados, and salsa! The shrimp ceviche was loaded with flavor! Just the right amount of refreshing citrus/lime and a little spicy kick at the end. They definitely did not skimp out on the shrimp and with each bite you could taste the onions, cilantro, and fresh tomatos! The salsa was also really tasty and flavorful but the shrimp ceviche stole the show! The tostados was large, thick but crispy. We were able to load each one with mounds of the ceviche. Great contrast in texture made our mouths happy! Will definitely be back! Check them out at their pop-up stand in front of Palolo Family Mart. Alex, the owner is a super chill, cool dude. Usually you need to pre order then pick up at their pop up location.

It was simple, comforting, and absolutely delicious. The crew inside was welcoming, quick, and the meat was on point. They even came outside to check on us. My son is a picky little dude and started picking onions off his chicken quesadilla. I told him to speak up. The guy smiled, said he had it, and brought out a fresh one with no onions. My son crushed it and even used their mild salsa, which is wild because he thinks everything is spicy. My burrito had great flavor and the asada was legit. I even called home for extra orders so everyone could try it. They loved it too. This spot isn't in our usual area, but I'm glad we found it because it's hard to find solid burritos in Hawaii.

First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

The food from the start with nachos and salsa to the end with tres leches was all delicious. I ordered the chorizo queso and it was fantastic. My son ordered the guacamole and it was so fresh and limey. Also delicious. My grandkids shared a quesadilla which was definitely large enough to do so with. My oldest grandson ordered a torte and he loved it. Also a generous portion. My son and I both ordered the grande burrito. He got his wet and I didn't. But we were looking for something different, quick, and tasty. That's what we got at K-Mex HI although to be quite frank - the parking lot here is terrible! Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park! That's the only real bummer about this place and has deterred me from returning. :(
