Beautiful Restaurant, but Overpriced and Disappointing Food and Service The restaurant is beautiful, and I really wanted to enjoy my breakfast, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. I ordered the chicken chilaquiles and had to pay an additional $3.75 for two sunny-side-up eggs. The portion of chicken was extremely small, just a few tiny pieces. Parts of my food were cold, the avocado was hard and unripe, and the overall dish didn't taste particularly fresh. The service was another disappointment. It took a very long time for someone to take my order and even longer for the food to arrive. I had about five different waitresses attending to my table, which made the service feel very disorganized. I was seated at a table with direct sunlight hitting me and asked if I could move, but was told they were too busy. There was also no Wi-Fi, and I had virtually no cell reception inside. The only thing I genuinely enjoyed was the celery, cucumber, and lemon agua fresca. It was refreshing and not overly sweet, but it cost $7. Between the approximately $20 chilaquiles, $3.75 for two eggs, and $7 drink, my total came to about $33 for breakfast for one person. I enjoy fresh, nutritious meals with generous portions of protein, and for this price, I expected much better food and service. Beautiful atmosphere, but unfortunately, the quality, portions, service, and overall value did not match the price. I would not return. read more

The food at this establishment is consistently outstanding--in fact, I prefer it over Cocina 35 in downtown. Every dish we ordered was excellent, perfectly seasoned, and tasted incredibly fresh with a wonderful depth of flavor. The ambiance beautifully captures the essence of Mexico, making you feel as though you have been transported to another country. Additionally, the service was top-tier. Our waitress was welcoming, attentive, and answered all of our questions with a warm, genuine smile. The only drawback to our experience involved the beverage pricing. While the drinks themselves were excellent, I noticed unexpected surcharges on our bill. I was charged extra for the seasoning on the rim of the mango drink, as well as for the chocolate lollipop garnish included with the chocolate milk. To my knowledge, these add-on costs are not noted on the menu. I have never encountered an establishment that bills separately for standard drink garnishes, and these fees weren't mentioned during ordering. While I will simply ask to exclude these garnishes on future visits to avoid the hidden fees, I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for phenomenal, authentic Mexican food. read more

A rich, savory comfort dish simmered in tangy tomatillo sauce, topped with tender, slow-cooked shredded pork. Both dishes were packed with flavor! To drink, I recommend ordering La Verde- a traditional Mexican aqua fresca infused with cucumber, lime and chia seeds! This drink was fire!!! There is indoor and outdoor seating available, and plenty of free parking. I love their lattes (mazapan being my favorite), but their cajeta, and Mexican mocha are good as well. The cafe de olla is a little too sweet for me, but not bad. I have tried a few different food items, but my favorite is their chilaquiles. There are 4 other locations in San Diego, but this is the newest and it sits adjacent to the Bay. These really are the best chilaquiles! The salsa verde and the carnitas in the Del Mercado was so flavorful and fresh. This has always been a favorite of the family but after our last visit it will be the last time I return to this location it's crazy that will all the technology and options for customer they can't have a better hosting system . Since they change their service to reservation only they leave all walk- in's to least priority and that should not be the case ! There should always be a balance between space for both reservations and walk- in. In addition they put all the walk-in customers in the outside patio and the reservations inside. This was my second time trying Cocina 35 on Airway Rd. Restaurant did not disappoint. I took friends visiting from New Mexico and they all enjoyed their authentic Mexican breakfast. So delicious and crispy. -Tamale with cheese -Chorizo with eggs and beans -Potato flautas -Café de la olla -Cucumber agua fresca Everyone rated their plates 5/5 stars. The service was great and the restaurant was clean. If you're a fan of chilaquiles, this is the place to try they have so many good options on their menu. This location is small near the border. I recommend going before 12noon because it gets very busy and they close at 2pm. There's only indoor seating with plenty of parking space. The food was okay, but the service was very disappointing. After we were seated, we weren't offered coloring sheets or crayons for our toddler, and we weren't given utensils. After ordering our drinks, we asked if we could also have cup of water because my brother likes to drink water with his drink. We expected regular tap water since that's complimentary at most restaurants. Instead, an opened glass water bottle was brought to our table without anyone asking or explaining that it wasn't complimentary. When we asked another server about it, she simply said, "Oh, that's the glass bottle." Since it had already been opened and left on our table, we just paid for it. When we were checking out, I politely mentioned to the waiter that it would be be helpful if staff clarified whether customers wanted bottled or tap water because we had only wanted regular tap water, like the other tables received. She responded that next time I should specify and that it was on us to clarify which water we wanted. I found that response rude and dismissive, we simply wanted a complimentary cup of tap water, and a quick clarification before bringing an opened glass bottle would have prevented the entire misunderstanding. If you're a chilaquiles breakfast fan, then Cocina 35 needs to be a Must Visit restaurant because they specialize in them and serve a delicious version. What also stood out about our visit was the standout customer service from our waitress Brianna. Cocina 35 is a chain restaurant that has 5 locations throughout San Diego. My wife visited the downtown location and there's another location at Liberty Station. This was my family's first time visit to this location, which can be found on the 905 freeway east exiting at the very last exit before the Otay Mesa Mexican border entrance. Cocina 35 is located within a business district and other warehouse buildings sharing the same parking lot as the Casas warehouse. The restaurant can be found in what appears to be another warehouse/office building. There is plenty of parking. This Cocina 35 is spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. There is table top seating with rattan chairs and leather bench seating. As you enter the restaurant, the focal point is the faux tree with red flowers against their main wall and the name of the restaurant. Their floors were distressed wood laminate; there were decorative light fixtures; there was white, distressed brick on the other wall; and there were mounted frames of family pics. Our waitress Brianna provided notable customer service, had a friendly and positive demeanor, and she remembered about bringing out a dessert to celebrate my daughter. Cocina 35 is known for their quality chilaquiles breakfast, so if a restaurant specializes in something, then it better be really good. After eating the chilaquiles on my plate, I can unequivocally say that Cocina 35 needs to be your chilaquiles destination. Checking out their menu, I was looking for traditional breakfast food, but under the Cocina 35 logo, it proudly says it's an old school Mexican restaurant, so the menu contains mainly Mexican food particularly chilaquiles. I decided to order their El Patron Sampler, which is their best seller and it comes with your choice of regular chilaquiles, beans, 2 eggs any way you want, and Cajeta toast. The chilaquiles come with tortilla chips garnished with sour cream, cotija cheese, cilantro, red onions, and avocado. Definitely order the El Patron Sampler because you get savory with the chilaquiles and the beans and sweet with their Cajeta toast, which is basically French toast. For my chilaquiles, I added carne asada for an additional charge and I loved everything about those chilaquiles. The chips were crunchy despite the amount of components heaped on them, there was a generous amount of carne asada, and the half of avocado added creaminess to them. They were really tasty and satisfying. The beans had a watery, creamy texture and they were okay. I enjoyed the Cajeta toast, which were cooked perfectly and it had strawberries, blueberries, and whip cream. The sampler was an ideal combo of savory and sweet. To make my food go down easy, I ordered their Cafe De La Olla House Special coffee. It had cinnamon and was unique Mexican style coffee. Definitely order that, add creamer, and generously add their syrup to make it sweeter. On Cocina 35's menu, it boasts about them serving the Best Chilaquiles in Town and based off of my experience, I totally agree. Cocina 35 made my daughter's birthday breakfast extra special by bringing out a $6 birthday dessert and part of their staff to cheer on our daughter. I've been going to Cocina 35 in Otay Mesafor years and was very disappointed with yesterday's service and food quality. I ordered the Tacos Dorados, Chipotle Chilaquiles, and two lattes. First, I was a walk-in client and the waitlist was short, only about three parties ahead of me. However, I later learned that reservations are prioritized, so I ended up waiting over an hour without being called. What was especially frustrating is that someone arrived after me, as a walk-in (30 min later) added her name to the walk-in, then later realized people were being called from the reservation list only, so she added her name to the reservation list right in front of the host, and was immediately called within minutes. Not knowing how the system worked, I did the same and was seated about seven minutes later. The seating system feels very disorganized and unfair. During this time, about three walk-in groups left after being told they would have to wait for hours because reservations are seated first. After we were finally seated, we placed our order, but our drinks never arrived despite being told multiple times they were on the way. The Chipotle Chilaquiles were also extremely spicy, unfortunately, they used to be one of my favorite menu items, but they are now barely edible. The Tacos Dorados were fine, but nothing special. Overall, the experience was very disappointing, and I left feeling frustrated with both the service and the food quality. read more

I visited Cocina 35 for the first time since it was La Loteria. I brought my parents and cousin to try it as one of my old stomping grounds. It's really cool how they have the dishes available to view so you know exactly what you're getting. We got a combination of chilaquiles and my personal favorite, enfrijoladas. Everyone loved their dishes. We especially liked the fresh beverage, agua verde with cucumber. We even got some drinks to go. We also got churros (which were alright, not the best) and a packaged concha, my mom liked it. Overall great experience, fresh food, great service. I have been going to cocina 35 since back in the day when the only location was the one in Otay Mesa, I love the food however service is lacking. It took 15 minutes to get water and it was not busy our sever didn't check in on us and like I said the flavor is good, but that's the only thing saving this restaurant because every time I've come the food comes out cold I love this place and I will come back, but I just hope in the future they work on these things especially for the price you pay.
