Solid little bar that also is attached to a brewery called All Rise. They have all their beers that they brew on tap. I had the reverend bobs, and the wonder beer. Both were good but I liked the wonder beer better. I know they have a full food menu but sadly I didn't have enough time to try it, but the food I saw people getting looked good though. I was there early evening so I didn't see any music acts, but it was still pretty populated. Easy to get to right off the Ashland pink/green stop. read more

Overall OK experience with Cobra Lounge today as I ordered for delivery via GrubHub. Things could really have been messed up, but the manager there saved the day. Apparently the communication link between GH and the restaurant was out of order, so they didn't receive my order until the GH driver arrived to pick up my order. At that point, I got a call from the restaurant confirming my order, etc. Even with all that, she was able to catch up and get me my order just about 10 minutes later than it was supposed to be. Not bad at all. Good recovery, for sure. Food-wise, with it being late, I had to start a conference call and unfortunately that made it difficult to start eating for at least another 30 minutes. So, bummer... the burger and fries were cold by then. I could tell the veggie burger pattie was pretty decent. The fries were kind of meh... I give this experience only 3 stars, but it could've been much worse. Thanks for managing that well and getting me my lunch; I fear without the quick action, the order could've just been cancelled and left me high and dry. read more

Saturday night Feb 15 2020 at Cobra Lounge - splitting time between the hanging at the bar and watching the Blood People / Radkey show. You'll be fortunate if you have Adam as your bartender. Adam is the best - knowledgeable, patient, respectful, funny, courteous. I watched him work the bar for about four hours - every customer treated so well. He knows the beers, and makes good recommendations. The food at Cobra Lounge is good, and the All Rise beers are excellent. The place has a nice vibe - punk, cool. Eager for my next visit. Thanks Adam. read more

What a pleasure it was coming in today for lunch! Came in with my boyfriend who has been a returning customer for some time now. This particular visit was my first time and definitely not my last! My BF decided to recommend the place and he definitely caught my attention by mentioning that they offer a Vegetarian friendly burger which turned out to be pretty freakin fantastic! We came in and it wasn't busy at all, we were probably 1 of several customers at the time. We didn't let that get in the way, we were pretty pumped and ready to have lunch! They have a great looking menu, I was pretty shocked at the options they offer on top of a good looking Drink Menu! So many great choices! It being Monday, we came in with interest in the 1/2 off the Cobra Burger special. My BF went with the Cobra Burger which he LOVED! Definitely mentioned that the Chipotle Mayo was an added bonus that you shouldn't pass up and I totally agree! I went with the Black Bean Burger and a Side of Fries. I also decided on a Bowl of the Veggie Chili to hold me off while we waited for our burgers. The Chili was great! I forced my BF to try it and he loved it, YUM! Our burgers were even better, we barely spoke to each other, we were so focused on our food. Everything was perfect I couldn't ask for more. Don't forget to add a side of the Chipotle Mayo, that sauce is amazing on everything, you'll want more! Overall I loved the experience and I'm happy that my first visit was an amazing one. The service is great and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I totally recommend checking this place out, I am inclined and interested in visiting during the dinner hour! I'll definitely be back for more, stay tuned! read more

Went to Cobra Lounge for their "Gearhead Wednesdays". There were only a couple "gearheads" and cyclists due to cold weather, but the general "Born to Be Wild" vibe still abounds. To aid and abet, I stepped over to the Punk Rock Jukebox to help lube the mood. A little Social D., Cheap Trick, Ramones, the Cult, the Clash and a whole lotta Punk, kept the mostly-empty bar rockin'! Story of my life... The Regulars keep this place "regular" and the owner was nicely taking care of his own. The bartender kept his drinks flowing as well, and afterward, without flinching, he threw a glass crashing into the middle of the room! Opa! And told someone to clean it up. Dayum. I found it funny and scary all at the same time. He then bought us all shots of Jameson. Born to Be Wiiiiiild! The men's bathroom is pretty pimped out in black Kohler and I'm glad they've got two urinals and a mini-stall. Those one-horse bathrooms can get crowded on weekends and there's nothing worse than standing in line to relieve as some crotch rocket biker macks on your chick! The crowd is cool, tattoed rockers and their Betty Pages...Hot! I would like to see the Cobra come down in price a smidge, as drinking should be fun but also CHEAP in places like these. But that's a minor complaint...Now, for some Minor Threat! read more

Cobra has always been one of my favorite bars, mostly because it's not what you'd expect judging from the exterior. Though the inside has seen some changes, it can still be cozy in the backroom when a show isn't taking place. The bartenders are some of the nicest, especially of the "punk bars", but more importantly, their beers aren't ridiculously priced. From crap beer to good beer, they've got a nice selection and some great food to go with it. I happen to be a huge fan of the corn fritters. Surprisingly though, I'm not a fan of their buffalo chicken sandwich. I found out the hard way that their sauce is sweeter rather than spicy and while flavorful, it's just not what I've come to expect when I think of "buffalo chicken". Aside from that, I have no other complaints in the food department. My favorite thing about Cobra is that you'll find all types of people. Doesn't matter what you listen to or what your style is, no one cares. Dress up, dress down, you'll fit right in. Oh, and ladies, the bathrooms are actually quite clean! There's a single one in the front, 4-5 in the back. Gotta love a bar whose bathroom doesn't get progressively worse throughout the night. read more

The good: New brewer from Finch is making some interesting stuff. One mad decent bartender who took care of us, even hooking up a free round of shots, and made great recommendations. Beyond those few things, I simply cannot recommend this spot. The short? Cobra Lounge protects predators. Dropped in for a drink before sold out show down the street at Bottom Lounge and watched a longtime patron (I guess) neg, verbally harass, berate, and stare down two young women until they felt so uncomfortable that they walked out and finished their drinks on the patio. When they came into to pay their tab, this fellow insisted on paying whilst continuing to stare them down and sneer at them. After they left, he continued loudly bragging to his friend (who rationalized his behavior as what one should expect walking into Cobra Lounge) and two other off-duty staff members. Heart racing and feeling downright queasy, I brought it up to the bouncer, bartender, and manager on duty (a woman, no less!) while getting a litany of excuses for this guy - "He's a friend of the late owner," "He's rich and spends a lot of money here," and - the classic - "He's just drunk." I left my drink unfinished on the bar as I left. It's a pity a cool spot with good music and tasty beer operates in such a morally bankrupt way. Management, I assure you, you'd make a lot more dough with a space where women felt safe rather than protecting a scumbag regular. No wonder it was empty on a Saturday night. I won't be back. read more

Ok - this spot would normally scare the crap out of me...I mean, I entered, and immediately looked around to make sure I was #1) in the right spot and #2) not offending anyone...Don't get me wrong, the clientele all seemed nice and some even preppy, but there is an air of being imposing there...and the spot is a bit on the dark side and a bit foreboding. It shouldn't be, though, because one of the best burgers in the city came beautifully from it's kitchen! We had to somewhat "fight" for a stool at the bar...and by "fight", I mean sort of look sad while another patron offers to move (yay - and thanks dude!). The bartender was at times super attentive, and at times....gone. She vanished after we got our food, but I can't complain because the other bartender was relatively cheery after he figured out we just wanted the bill..."but sir, we weren't flagging you down to complain about how the concert didn't start yet....". But I digress... The burger is G.O.O.D...and I mean good. It's perfectly cooked (any way you like it), juicy and wonderfully delicious. I added a ton of toppings to mine and it was all perfection. I couldn't stop eating it, though I knew that I really didn't need my burger, bites of another burger AND all of the fries....hmmm...did I really eat all of that??? Anyway, Food is a 5! Bathrooms...a 3 - could be cleaner, but were cute. Service...3...either pick supper attentive or indifferent...please don't waiver - JUST WHEN we're getting the bill. Value...5. $5 burger? Count me in!!! Atmosphere....I'd call it harsh, but hey, sometimes that works. A 3 for me. Definitely go - just not on Mondays, because I want my burger deal without fighting for a seat!! read more

We stopped in after the 312 Goose Island festival was sold out. It was super busy due to a show that was happening later that evening. I don't think the servers were equipped to handled the crowd, because service as just awful. We basically didn't have a server and it took forever to get anything we needed. They were also out of three or four food items and three beers. It's a cold space, though and they have interesting beers. The orange wit in particular was quite good. I had the wings and the serving of 9 wings it's a ridiculously large portion - definitely don't order so many unless you're starving. They were just okay - not very flavorful and not super crispy. Others with me enjoyed the veggie burger and tots, but the grilled cheeses were just okay. I'd probably come back during a quieter time to try more beers. read more

This place is a dirty rock club, without being that dirty. The music was great, and LOUD, and the place smelled like ribs, which made me drool. Cobra Lounge is a little known venue for seeing some excellent live shows. If you're really into discovering good local talent particularly in the hard rock/metal arena, you'll want to check this place out. The front bar has a higher end, sleek kind of cool vibe where you can chill at the bar with a beer and chat it up with the attractive bar staff or enjoy a glass of wine at an intimate table with your honey. However, the back bar is all about the music. Supposedly Rex Brown of Pantera has been known to stop in here, although it's never been on a night I was there. All the shows are free so you have no excuse not to go and support local Chicago bands. And there's a jukebox filled with rockin tunes for when bands are not performing. read more

Loved the atmosphere at this place. It has plenty of space outside and inside. People are pretty nice and friendly. They have a huge variety of local and international beer too. I was really excited to try out this place as I saw this lounge featured on one of the local food shows on WGN. I was curious in how their wings tasted, so I dragged a few friends of mine and went. We ordered the 10 piece Smoked Jumbo Chicken Wings ($8), which is smoked in the house and tossed in our choice of sauce - the waitress said that we could also do half and half if we were indecisive with the sauces - whoo hoo! We did half Buffalo and half Hot BBQ. I asked for it to be extra well-done. When it came out, it was piping hot, and you also had a choice of ranch or bleu cheese - I chose the latter. The wings were done perfectly and exactly the way I liked - they were cooked well-done and extremely crispy, and it was so flavorful! I loved the Hot BBQ ones and wished I ordered 5 more rounds and upped it to 15 pieces instead! I definitely found my favorite wing spot in Chicago (after my huge disappointment with Buffalo Joe's recently)! We were also told that they have a wings night on Thursdays where each wing costs 35 cents, and there's no limit on how much you can order. Cool! Great vibe, great classic rock music playing, and the staff were extremely nice and awesome. Parking is kind of a pain; there's some metered and permit parking around the area. +Smoked Jumbo Wings - Hot BBQ :D read more

I was here on Tuesday night, and I was surprised by how cool it was inside. This place is super close to the Greenline, which is very convenient for me. They have an indoor area for bikes (I'm not sure if that's for employees or for anyone, but I thought it was cool). They had good drink and food specials. Everyone seemed to enjoy what they had. Cobra is good for both drinking/eating and catching a show (if you're lucky, all three at the same time!). I can't even count how many times I have drove past this and wondering what it was like, well I finally got the chance to check it out. Whoever the bands were that night they were packing up their gear by the time I got to the Cobra Lounge. But it didn't matter I only came to drink with friends not for the music. It would of been nice to get here earlier since I was really hungry and knew that they served food. My expectations for the place were kinda low, I really didn't think the place was going to be as good as it was. They have a very nice beer selection; Harpoon IPA, a couple different Lagunitas and of course the standards you will see at most bars. The place was really big so even though there were a lot of people here the place didn't seem too crowded. I could see going back at least to give the food a try, but the place is a little out of the way for me. One really neat thing was the bathrooms had black urinals, cant say I've see that before. read more

My son bought us tickets to see Obsessed and EHG here last night and what a great show! There were three excellent cover bands too, and I'm amazed we could get all this for just $25 general admission. What a great value. We were right up front within several feet of Obsessed front man Scott "Wino". The crowd was not overwhelming at all. First visit to Cobra Lounge, and overall I was impressed with the facility. My son is a heavy metal enthusiast to say the least, and this place passed his test, simply for what they were playing on the speakers. Electric Wizard, Kyus, "....not your radio rock." The staff seemed to be on the ball, and polite enough. Bathroom logistics, A+. Also, excellent detail that there were pitchers of water available at the bar counters (main and inside the show room) with plenty of cups on hand for self service. I don't know if this was because of the show, or if this is always the case, but a much appreciated touch. We didn't try the food, but enjoyed a couple different beers and they were top notch. I was also pleasantly surprised at the very accessible close proximity parking available on the side street. I thought for sure I'd have to pay premium for parking, but that wasn't the case. Amazing that I went and saw a great live show in Chicago and paid nothing to park within a few steps of the facility. read more

Very cool stop we wouldnt have checked out without Groupon. Clean, plenty of seating, awesome staff and large food/drink menu. We did 2 flights and all beer was good. Shared spinach artichoke dip-good. I ordered the Cobra Club...delicious. BF ordered tenderloin...good but not a typical midwest tenderloin I was expecting. Sides were elote and tots-good. I was over served Malort shots, I proceeded to coat the washroom with projectile vomit and took a nap on the floor. When I awoke, several men with tattoos and dresses were licking up my vomit. I sobered up and decided to go lighter and ordered a dirty martini with a splash of Malort. I began to choke on the olive and a woman wearing a strap on performed the Heimlick maneuver on me, for 10 minutes, saving my life. If anyone knows her please thank her. Food is pretty good. You know when a business is all about making money. If they are doing it well, then they are not understaffed. They are pleasant and enjoy the experience of being there. Which fits Cobra for the most part... Maybe it was just an off night (Tue), but one of the bartenders was clearly scamming the drink prices (i.e. jacking them up by a buck or 2 - $8 at one point for a small plastic cup of beer.) There was live music, but nothing on the calendar. Not even a "TBA" leading up. PA setup has perhaps seen better days. And no bartender at the bar in the venue room. read more

Decent Food and Beer, but outdated internal signage and website. We stopped here on a Thursday night with a groupon and were looking forward to trying the different brews. The positives: The beer and the food that we had were decent. I wouldn't say that any of the beer was outstanding, but there were some solid brews. The negatives. There is a whole sign display of all of their beers. The waitress informed us that they didn't have all of those at the moment. Truth was, out of 12 or 14 beers on the wall, they only had two of those, and there were only six beers available. Honestly, it doesn't say much for the place that they can't keep up with their signage. Their website also listed several food items that are no longer on the menu. There also seemed to be only the one waitress on duty and she did her best, but we didn't see her much and by the time we left the poor girl was pretty crazed. We're from the West burbs, and I was excited to try this place because it is right off the Green Line. However, I have to say that it is an adequate place for a neighboorhood joint, but based on our experience it isn't worth a special trip. read more

My partner and I arrived at All Rise to try the beer and get our stamps for the summer beer passport. We had few expectations and were a little unimpressed by the logo's theme as we approached. However, upon entering, we experienced excellence in beer and service. The server was very attentive and was extremely helpful with the brewery passport, as well as recommendations and information about the beer. I ordered the Backlash Jack and was in love with the creamy goodness and perfect balance of sweet and bitter in this dark ale. My partner ordered the Wonder beer and loved the hoppy head and consistently vibrant flavor. When we prepared to head out, the server asked if we wanted a taster of anything else. She clearly wanted us to know about the greatness and diversity of the beer at All Rise. We took her up on the offer and I tasted the Exploding Sky. Oh my goodness, this English Style Bitter was incredible with a delightful faintness of honey on the after taste! I only wish we didn't have to leave so I could try a full pint! The server was so kind, and so smart, to make sure we walked away knowing that All Rise Brewery was an excellent brewery! The music was a bit loud and inhibited conversation, but the beer and service was too good to bring the rating down to a 4! So glad our whim decision to stop at All Rise turned into our greatest find, so far, on the Chicago Beer Passport! read more

I have never had a bad time at the Cobra Lounge. Great atmosphere, music, and food. The variety of beer they have is also great. I have come here and celebrated New Years or just to simply hang out. The venue is small and intimate which I love. The bar is easy to find you can't miss it while driving down on Ashland. The location is perfect if you are not driving, it is right off the Ashland and Lake CTA Pink/Green line stop. Side note the view of the city from this stop is amazing. It's one of my favorite stops on the El, so take a few pictures, selfies while waiting for the train. Ok... back to the amazing time I had tonight. I saw Bayside was going to play an acoustic set here so ya girl had to buy tickets ! ! A young artist named Kayleigh opened the show for them and she was absolutely amazing! Halfway through her set the lights started flickering and the power went out. (**Oh yea I forgot to mention a blizzard was hitting the Midwest making way to Chicago but that didn't stop me from going to the show**) She came off the stage and finished her song in the crowd while everyone held up their phones to shine light on her. Once she finished we were all waiting in the dark to hear if Bayside would be playing or not! And guess what I saw Anthony Raneris face in the dark and he's started playing/singing "don't call me peanut". The boys came out and played a full acoustic set,it was epic guys ! And the beautiful Kayleigh also came out and played the violin for Baysides set. This show was so cool all you saw in the dark was little electric tea candles making way to the front to light the stage up. Loved every moment of this show. I definitely recommend this bar/venue if you want to come get your drink drank punk on and have a good time. Thanks for the great time Cobra Lounge! read more

My dad was telling me a story about my mom and her older sister from before they had children. They used to look like 1970's Bond girls with long, thick, waist-length hair. They went to a bar and my aunt got wasted. Mom was also drunk, but she is kind of a teacup among jellyjars - out-of-place ladylike. My aunt wanted to dance. There wasn't a dance floor so she made one on their table. My mom went to get another drink. A man approached my father and asked him how much for one of his girls. My father at this time was a hard-drinking biker man and not to be messed with. I *still* wouldn't mess with my dad. He told the guy they weren't for sale. The man insisted. He was especially interested in Mom. My dad told him that was his wife. The man said he'd take the crazy one on the table. My father declined and suggested he walk away. Few minutes later, there was a broken jaw, some broken tables, a lot of broken beer bottles, and my dad carrying my aunt out like a football under one arm and dragging my mom with the other. The Cobra strikes me as the kind of place that while that would *never* happen, you can certainly imagine it happening, you kind of wish it would happen, but deep down you know that if it did, the bouncers would interfere and take all the fun right out of it. And that makes the Cobra a safe little place for undangerous white chicks like me to go ahead and dress rock and act rock and hang out with friends, and spend money, all with the understanding that there isn't going to be any bar fight. And the food is very good. Strangely expensive for the venue, but not necessarily overpriced, although I'd never pay $8 for grilled cheese unless it came with gold leaf (very hot chicken wings, though. blistered my lips. $0.35 cents on Thurs) EDIT: I had to dock you a star, Cobra Lounge. The last three or four times I've been by, I saw nothing of the awesome servers of yore. Only malnourished space cadets who could barely be bothered to take our order. One beer in 90 minutes was all I was allowed. It will be a while before I go back. Maybe I just don't have enough piercings. read more

Came in here after work one day. Recommendation: check for the Groupon deal and then come. Otherwise, it is a little underwhelming. Beers are okay, but nothing stands out. Like most places with any decent reputation, Cobra Lounge can probably be skipped on the weekend unless you're attending a private event of some sort. It's plenty cool during the week, but can get really crowded and hot, there's minimal places to sit, and the outside is often reserved for regulars. The staff are all attractive (like, whoa!) and congenial but nothing I get excited to go out for. They do have a pretty ghetto rock star buffet on Saturday night for something crazy like $5.95... sooo I'm kind of in love... fried chicken, mac n' cheese, fries, etc. It's great drunk food but very hard to eat when there's no where to sit. I'd like to love this place more since it's within walking distance of my friends pad but after going several times on the weekend only to find myself counting down the minutes till we could leave, I can't help but feel a bit of animosity for making me feel like Grandpa Simpson the party pooper. read more

If you want to get drunk and start a fight or screw someone in the bathroom - this is the spot for you. I've been here a handful of times, and every time I'm there, something insane happens. Someone picks a fight with a UFC/MMA wannabe dude (or his girlfriend), someone gets wasted and ends up in Greektown with no wallet/no phone/no idea where they are, or someone (ahem) gets roofied and shows everyone in the bar their t and a. Literally, every evening here starts out cool enough...there's a diverse crowd despite the look of the place, the bartenders are nice enough and the drinks are strong, the music selection is awesome....and yet somewhere around the 2 hour mark, shit pops off. It's a phenomenon I can't yet explain, but you can bet my (sweet and likely visible) ass I'll keep going there until I figure it out. Annnnnd probably after. What can I say? I love trouble. read more

Highly surprised by this joint. I've passed cobra for years on top of more years. Neutral looking place from the outside, no windows, just the flashy sign. I always thought this place would be grimy inside knowing its rock/metal following. Got inside and immediately dispelled my judgments. Looks were definitely deceiving. Also there is a parking lot but given the area it wouldn't be hard to find a space. Big ups on the lot though. Two rooms inside, the main bar with DJ and a stage room. Music from either room doesn't spill into the other. A pair of bathrooms and they were clean. All in all the inside was nice. Only had a few drinks and some mac and cheese that was official. I've seen some other reviews and people say the food is on point. From what I tasted and saw while I was there I would agree but I would consider going during the day just to cruise the menu. Cobra serves as a mythbuster for their following. Definitely a dope venue. read more

This place is ok if you want to hang out with some friends and be in a "hipster" atmosphere. I don't mind going there every once in a while....however the staff (though all nice people) kind of sucks. They tend to forget things or worry more about their friends then they do running a business. Don't get me wrong....I do like this place but yes I've experienced much better. While I have been to the Cobra several times and have always enjoyed the cheap drink prices and cool environment. Not to mention the awesome before and after parties for the Windy City Rollers, who rock my world! BUT i have one HUGE qualm. There is one bartender who makes EVERY visit to the Cobra horrible. He's a tall guy with a big beard who apparently thinks it's awesome to treat good tipping patrons like shit. No joke, EVERY time I've been to the Cobra this guy has treated me and the others like dog shit. I'm all about the "bad ass bartender" bit, but he's a jerk and really makes me want to tell others to run from the Cobra. Upon asking for a dirty vodka martini he asked me "Do you know where you are?"... apparently vodka and vermouth is a bit too much work... I'd hate to be the person who actually asks for a difficult drink. Last time we were there my boyfriend told him to have a good night as he was leaving his shift and he told him to fuck off...wTF? Unless this guy owns the bar, I would seriously consider getting rid of him... I hate being around people who hate their jobs... and I'd like to keep coming back and enjoying all that the lounge has to offer... but the bearded asshole makes it tough. read more
