I found Cobella because I was searching for places that carried Kevin Murphy hair products, which are cruelty free! My previous hairdresser left the salon I went to in Stoneham so it was time for a change. Bonus Cobella is 1 mile from my house!!!! I called Cobella and a friendly voice answered her name was Maddie. I asked her multiple questions via phone which she politely answered. I was fortunate to book an appointment that day! When I arrived the front desk greeted me. I walked into a serene environment with stone floors and plenty of plants! I felt like I was in a courtyard in Italy;), very calming! I connected with Maddie right away. She made good conversation and gave me some Netflix recommendations to watch! I was a bit quiet and reserved because a Hairdresser is like a therapist, you are skeptical to find the right one. When my hair was finished I was in love!!! Maddie did an amazing job and I think I found my new place. Who knew my ideal hairdresser was so close. I highly recommend Cobella! read more

I don't even know where to begin. ALL I CAN SAY IS RUN FOR THE HILLS! All of a sudden I walk into Cobella's and get greeted by this peculiar looking figure named "Vince." Vince looked off from first glance but I tried to not to judge him based off his looks. It seemed somewhat normal as he began to wash my hair and then proceed to ask what type of haircut I wanted. This is when things get strange. I told big Vince I just wanted a quick trim and I'd be on my way. All of a sudden Big Vince starts to laugh and states "OF COURSE WHAT EVER YOU WANT." Vince starts to trim my hair with scissors so I thought it would be fine... I was so wrong. He starts jabbing my head with scissors as he clearly has no experience cutting hair. It was all uneven and awful. I must add as this atrocity was unfolding big Vince starting to get personal. He saw my gold cross and asked if I was religious. I said yes thinking he was weird. He then asks if I'm Italian to which I said yes. He went on a tear talking about how he thinks God is fake and that the Bible is fake. He told me to believe in science. Big Vince only got crazier. He told me he hated Trump, Capitalism, and that did not believe in college education. All of a sudden he told me his brother passed from cancer a few years back. He told me he "liked black women" even though he was a racist or something of the sort. He also creepily mentioned his ejac****** habits and started to talk about sex a lot... at this point I was scared for my life. He tried to call me a guido and began to talk about guns. He banged me in back of my head 3 times very hard as he told me some crazy stories about how he liked filmmaking. I was going to fight him and tell him to not hit me, but I was so shocked at his behavior I remained still. This porkchop is a danger to society and he needs help. This big Vince character needs to get therapy. So after 2 hours of him forcing me to sit in the chair I had enough. He completely ruined my hair. He took off all my hair and messed up my side burns and my entire look. After all his sick stories about himself I had to make a run for it. I managed to stand up and tell him I have to go. He was very CREEPY. I was so upset with my hair I couldn't even believe the crazy sick shit he was telling me. He charged me nearly $50 bucks for the worst haircut ever. He is one sick man. I said by, 4 or 5 times before I was able to escape him. It was so bad I had to go to another nearby barber to just get a fade. THIS GUY IS A PYSCHO. read more

I got my nails done here today by Mui and she was so great! So friendly and my nails look great. Prices are fair ($30 for gel manicure), and service was quick. It was easy to make an appointment, and sitting and talking with Mui for the 40 minutes I was in her chair was so refreshing! Will definitely be coming back! read more

Have to admit I never got my hair cut here. Know why? Like the other reviews said, the staff have a horrible attitude and no customer service skills. I've walked by a dozen times and thought if finally go in for a cut because the sign outside made it seem super convenient: "open 7 days a week; we [heart] walk-ins" I walk in, excited because I've been putting this off for a while. I expect to see a bustling place (Newtonville's pretty happening on Sundays) but there's only one person working, she's got one customer in her chair and one waiting. She does greet me, but it's not warm and it's somewhat confrontational, like I'm not really a welcome sight. I say I'd like a haircut and get the immediate response that, "we're all booked today, how about tomorrow?" It's Sunday. If I could get my haircut on a weekday I would but I came in in a Sunday because it's my only day off. I say I can't because I have to work, so she asks if I want to come in next Saturday. So it goes from, "we [heart] walk-ins" to having to make an appointment for a week later?? She doesn't try very hard to keep my business. I say, "no, I was hoping to be a walk-in" and she doesn't even look at me, just shrugs and says, "sorry". I got an appointment for highlights and redoing my layers right when things started opening up. I had Éloïse and I don't know if she was rushing or not the most experienced with layers but it was terrible! It looked like a mullet/ 70s fringe and was done in way less time than it should have. We had such a bad experience here which is disappointing because we just moved to the area and I was hoping to find a nearby salon for blow outs and cuts. I took my well-behaved 6 and 4 year olds here. When I stopped in on Saturday to make the appt. the friendly receptionist said they regularly do kids cuts and the price was fine. I booked them in for this morning. We arrived on time and the young woman who looked as if she'd just rolled out of bed didn't bother to introduce herself or even to engage with my boys. She seemed incredibly put out. My boys were quiet and for two little boys sat still for her. We got through my 4 year olds without much of a problem but she really gave my older boy a hard time about keeping still. He was doing a fine job at it. I literally turned to help my 4 year old with something than the cape was off and my son was walking toward me. She said they had finished. I was shocked. His hair was not combed and it looked like she'd just stoped mid cut. Pls see photos. I said literally nothing because I was so upset. I paid, tipped her 20% cash and left. Cobella is such a great salon. The owner Carla is the nicest person I have ever met. I had my hair colored and highlighted and it is the best job that has been done on my hair in years. I also brought my boyfriend to have his hair cut and his facial hair trimmed and Carla spent at least an hour on it, he said it is the longest anyone has ever spent grooming him!! He looked so good after we walked out and we are going back for seconds. Such great quality for the price. I highly recommend this salon and will keep going back!!! read more

my son was brought in to Co-Bella for a trim... He walked in with 5 1/2 inches of hair and ELOISE went Edward-Scissor hands on him... she not only cut ALL of his hair off, it was thee worse hair cut I have ever seen in my life. It looked as if a student from Blaine on her first day had cut his hair. When I returned to have ELOISE fix his hair she stated that if I wet his hair it would have the style she intended to give him. I explained to her that its WINTER and he will not be walking around with his hair wet to fix the hair cut. She could not fix it, she became upset thru the money at me and told my sons and I to take our money back because ... quote " I dont need this shit" ... I have never been on YELP or left a bad review for anyone specially because I work in customer service, but this was thee WORSE EXPERIENCE, SERVICE, HAIR CUT, PERSON, PLACE, ATTITUDE, makes me wonder are they PREJUDICE also .... oh yeah Im black.... and its Newton... one can only imagine.... I moved from Miami and I could not find a decent place to get a keratin treatment. I'm African-American and I was concerned that salons in Newton would not know how to treat my hair. Enter Carla! I tested the waters with a blowout and was thrilled with the price. I scheduled a keratin, a little worried that my roots wouldn't be properly straightened. I was worried for no reason. Carla did an excellent job. She was careful and took her time to do it right. And the price was fantastic! I am now a loyal customer. read more

I called this salon to ask for a quote on how much highlights would cost. I was quoted $85 for a partial. I asked how much if I also had a trim, and she told me $30 more, the price of a regular haircut. I was surprised that there was no combination discount. Since I was comparing prices, I decided to go here to get just the highlights, since it was less expensive than the $100+ at other places. When I got there, Eloise did my hair and did a beautiful job, but when she asked if I wanted a cut, I told her no, I just wanted just the highlights. She blew out my hair, and when I got up to the counter, she told me it was $30 for the blow out!! So I ended up paying $115 after all, when I could have had highlights, a cut, and a blow out for less money elsewhere. She also recommended I come in for a root touch up, and when I asked how much that would cost, she hemmed and hawed and then said it would cost $30. I would be very suspicious about price manipulation here. They try to get you in, and then try to up the cost in any way they can. Go with a salon that lists their prices clearly. A shame, because I wanted support Newtonville. read more
