Leon's Shoe Repair - Glue residue and messily cut patch

    Leon's Shoe Repair

    (37 reviews)

    Mount Pleasant

Short story: Leon's communication is abysmal, and the quality of work is even worse. I dropped my…read moreshoes off on 10/9 for a repair and didn't get them back until 11/8. I took a pair of boots on 10/9 to Leon that needed repair after my dog got to them. He came highly recommended from a trusted friend. He required payment up front, which usually I won't do as a first-time customer, but made an exception since he seemed like a good guy and my friend had excellent work done here. He promised an estimate within a few days. I waited a week before getting in touch by text, and got a very hostile response. We later talked on the phone and apparently he thought I was trying to scam him because his information has been "hacked", even though we'd already communicated in the same text thread. We cleared the air and he apologized for the misunderstanding. He got me an estimate 5 days later (for those keeping track it's now 10/21), and I went to the store immediately to pay. He took my money and promised they'd be done by the end of the month. He's just one guy, after all! Can't fault him for taking his time, especially if the work is good. I got in touch on 10/31 and he said he needed another week. I got in touch a week later and he says he's still not done, but says I can come by the store at 8pm that night to pick up. This doesn't work with my schedule, which is fine. That's on me. So today, 11/8, rolls around and I ask about when I can pick up. He texts to "come by 3pm", which means "come before 3pm". A typo, i realize in retrospect, and so when I showed up at 1:30 expecting him to be there I was surprised that the shop as closed. I called and was met with a stream of profanity about how he had told me to come AT 3pm. We bickered for a bit, I'm frustrated, and so I come at 3 to find him just starting the work on my boots. The resulting work is really bad. The patch leather is cut poorly and messily, the thread isn't properly sewn in, and there is glue all around the perimeter of the patch on the boots themselves. A cherry on top: when I was trying to leave the store, which is quite cluttered and small, I tripped over some detritus, and he laughed at me and then texted me "up yours" as I was getting to my car.

Master Shoe Repair - My shoe! Not dropped off with heel stripped off from its back

    Master Shoe Repair

    (91 reviews)

I dropped of my shoes two weeks bf Christmas. TWO WEEKS.Owner said ( as he gave me my repair…read moreticket) completed by Dec 27th! Cool! I called January 10 to say I would pick up by the 24th.... Then SNOWMAGEDON happened! Mind you... I took my repair to this particular shop from a personal friends' review.... So today ( Feb 2,2026) I drove down to pick up my shoes..... The owner looked at me with confusion as I handed him my repair ticket. I described my shoes to a T...5 inch stilettos with a wide crisscross strap. Still confused face. I literally watched this man walk over to a pile of shoes and rummage through pairs and pairs of shoes to eventually find mine on the bottom of the pile.... Dusty and half stripped . So I knew work had started on them bc I did not drop them off in the condition I took them back in. I inquired as to why they were not finished and he said " it's been busy, then snow". I also asked why he did not tell me he had not finished them when I called ( and I gave him the tix number on the 10th of January). He shrugged his shoulders. At this point.... ZERO APOLOGY! ZERO offer to complete the repair at a 25% discount.... I did not ask him for one. He said... and I quote..." you said take your time".... In my mind and most other customers minds.... Take your time means in a reasonable time..... HE gave me the date of completion for Dec 27.... Again.... Shoulder shrugs! How does someone run a business like this? Lack of respect for my shoes ( found on the floor) lack of honoring the delivery date with ZERO APOLOGIES. Then have the audacity to place blame on THE CUSTOMER for not having the repair FINISHED because I stated take your time! SOMEONE MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE TO ME!!!! I called my friend who highly recommended MASTER REPAIR SHOP in Rockville Maryland to me and let him know how my repair project was treated. He was beyond shocked. Many apologies from my friend but not ONE from the OWNER! Please avoid this shit hole ( physically a nasty mess... where my shoes were found on the floor) AT ALL COSTS!!! The owner is CLUELESS on how to provide great customer service. It was HEINOUS AND DEPLORABLE AT BEST! With the damage done to my shoes ( because he started my project) the price to fix them at another shop up the road was 50 dollars MORE... at $150.00! That's double the cost of the shoes when I bought them. When the owner said he would fix them in the next MONTH ( I have a late Winter wedding to attend and wanted to wear the shoes in question) I nearly lost my mind! I stared at him with such disappointment .... He then said... and I quote..." You didn't pay YET, so here" and held out my shoes to take. I took them and as I left I told him what I thought of his shitty customer service in Italian, Spanish and English! I'm sure he understood ONE of the three languages I speak! Master Repair Shop in Rockville, Md is a horrible place to have your shoes repaired. The customer service is beyond repair itself and I will NEVER EVER allow this shop to work on any of my shoes if I'm in need of repairs. It should NOT TAKE over 7 weeks to repair something this simple as my repair needs..... in his words! A complete disaster and I give Master Repair Shop in Rockville, Md a negative 10.... -10 !!!! Zero stars!!!! Had to put one star rating other wise it would not allow me to post! But still.... ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! A total shit hole! Kathryn L

That would've been nice to know when I dropped it off. I still don't have it back. I haven't gotten a call. I haven't gotten a text. Review for Bedos Leatherworks - Steve Doudaklian…read more The transformation of my vintage Florsheim Imperials is truly night and day. These shoes arrived at Bedos Leatherworks worn and tired, and what Steve returned to me looks like a masterpiece fresh out of a bespoke workshop. Steve didn't just resole them--he completely recrafted the shoes from the ground up with unmatched skill. The welt work, stitching, and finishing are flawless, far surpassing anything I've ever seen from factory production. Every detail was handled with precision, and the shoes now look better than when they were new. On top of that, Steve went above and beyond by creating custom shoe trees, beautifully stamped with the Imperial logo. It's that level of detail and pride in craftsmanship that makes his work so special. If you want to see your shoes not just restored but elevated, Bedos Leatherworks is the place. Steve's artistry proves that true craftsmanship can breathe new life into classics--and even surpass their original glory.

I have patronized this stand at Union Station. I've probably been here a dozen times or more over the years. They do excellent work. I have not been disappointed. I've been searching shoe shiners *verbatim* on Yelp and Google basically since I moved to DC in April, and this one never came up. The places that did, require you to leave your shoes for up to a week just to do a 15 or 20 minute job. Literally no one had a basic sit-and-wait operation; one place, a mobile service, ultimately took three days to answer an email, which ended up being too late. I randomly came across Union Station Shoe Shine one morning and immediately gave them a call. The reviews were stellar and the voice on the phone checked out, so I made the mad dash up the Red Line over there. Union Station Shoe Shine is a textbook shoe shiner's that you've assuredly walked past if you frequent Union Station. For some reason, it still never dawned on me. I was born and raised in New Orleans, where neighborhood shiners were a dime a dozen, and then I had a shiner in Houston that I'd drive 40 miles across town to visit. But I really didn't want to wait a week just to have my shoes shined, and this is where I learned the difference between the two types of shops. First of all, the two gentlemen--one of them named Ty--are personable as all get out. I sat in the "throne," basically, with my feet rested in the platform, completely stunned at the work being done while they answered all of my questions (they offer cleaning services, and you can also simply drop off your shoes, where they'll give you an estimate of a turnaround--usually about 15 minutes). During the conversation, my shiner explained why I was having trouble: dedicated *shiners* have closed down due to decreased demand, and all that are left are full-service repair shops who, naturally, take longer to do the same work. Facing a sea of travelers, I sat and watched him craft a mirror shine the likes of which I've never seen. I was left with this glazing white reflection of the skylight that retailers have to *Photoshop* in order to sell their shoes. Only midway through, my mind was made up that I'd be bringing my entire fleet back here, especially at $15 for such classic work. A dress shoe fanatic, I sent photos to all of my friends in the DMV area. All of that to say: if you're in DC and need a common-sense shoe shine, just go to Union Station Shoe Shine, smack in the middle of the train hall. They're efficient, super friendly and will take DAMN good care of you.
