Edward Green brown cap-toe shoes freshly polished

Always pleased with all services offered here! Either shoe repair, polish, or a couple of my leather related needs.

Brown alligator loafers; re-stitching crown of shoes

i stumbled upon George's Shoe Repair last week. Had a wonderful conversation with him and brought 3 pair of shoes to repair (had been sitting for years)... picked them up today and they were like new! He has a customer for life!!! This is the type of small business we should support and allow him to "fix" our treasured item. Thanks Richard

This is a belated, but much due review: I have a once-in-a-lifetime pair of Italian leather boots that fit me perfectly, when the zipper started sticking I knew I wanted them fixed, not replaced. I brought them to George who replaced the zipper for me, but retained the original pulls. Since they have been fixed; I can not remember or even tell which one had the problem zipper.

Messy stitching job that ruined my boots
Merrill W.

George's shoe repair charged me $180 to replace the zippers on a pair of leather boots. I thought that was pretty pricy even for DC, and upfront payment was required. The stitching job also turned out messy (I uploaded photos), and they acknowledged that it didn't look nice. When I asked for some kind of discount they refused and said their machinery couldn't do the job any neater, which was disappointing - it really affects how the boots look. I do give them credit for replacing the zippers and adjusting the boot width well. They also cleaned my boots which was nice. However, I was really disappointed in the aesthetic of the stitching, especially for the price.

Re-sole + shoe shine = "new" pair of boots! $35

I'm a little biased since this is the only time I've had my shoes repaired but it far exceeded expectations! Dropped my Frye booties off on a Thursday evening to be re-soled and decided to add a $10 shoe shine, as well. The gentleman working we super friendly, which is sometimes hard to find around DC. Picked my shoes up the following Wednesday and I swear they look better than when I first purchased them! I even damaged the wood on the heel and he fixed that without issue! It feels like a brand new pair of boots. Met George himself this time & he was so sweet (even though I was there at 6 PM closing time). Definitely will be back for future shoe needs.

This is my first Yelp and it is a Yelp well spent. After finally taking in some weather beaten dress shoes (snow, sleet, salt, and a restaurant job involving a lot of walking) that I received for Christmas in 2013, as soon as I entered into the repair shop the lovely woman assisting me assessed the shoes and recommended how they can save my shoes from purgatory. After taking another look and handling a quote that was fair and reasonable, she assessed that she would prefer her father to handle them as he will know how to best restore them, and restore is exactly what Jorge (George) did. I've attached photos of a before an after so you can see for yourself the quality. Truly a warm friendly service for something so minimal but at the same time means I have another year with these shoes. I'll be coming back if ever need the services again and would recommend them to everyone else. Happy New Year!

The excessive prices and sometimes rude customer service outshadow the good quality, I do not intend to return.

Leon's Shoe Repair - Glue residue and messily cut patch

Leon's Shoe Repair

(37 reviews)

Mount Pleasant

Short story: Leon's communication is abysmal, and the quality of work is even worse. I dropped my…read moreshoes off on 10/9 for a repair and didn't get them back until 11/8. I took a pair of boots on 10/9 to Leon that needed repair after my dog got to them. He came highly recommended from a trusted friend. He required payment up front, which usually I won't do as a first-time customer, but made an exception since he seemed like a good guy and my friend had excellent work done here. He promised an estimate within a few days. I waited a week before getting in touch by text, and got a very hostile response. We later talked on the phone and apparently he thought I was trying to scam him because his information has been "hacked", even though we'd already communicated in the same text thread. We cleared the air and he apologized for the misunderstanding. He got me an estimate 5 days later (for those keeping track it's now 10/21), and I went to the store immediately to pay. He took my money and promised they'd be done by the end of the month. He's just one guy, after all! Can't fault him for taking his time, especially if the work is good. I got in touch on 10/31 and he said he needed another week. I got in touch a week later and he says he's still not done, but says I can come by the store at 8pm that night to pick up. This doesn't work with my schedule, which is fine. That's on me. So today, 11/8, rolls around and I ask about when I can pick up. He texts to "come by 3pm", which means "come before 3pm". A typo, i realize in retrospect, and so when I showed up at 1:30 expecting him to be there I was surprised that the shop as closed. I called and was met with a stream of profanity about how he had told me to come AT 3pm. We bickered for a bit, I'm frustrated, and so I come at 3 to find him just starting the work on my boots. The resulting work is really bad. The patch leather is cut poorly and messily, the thread isn't properly sewn in, and there is glue all around the perimeter of the patch on the boots themselves. A cherry on top: when I was trying to leave the store, which is quite cluttered and small, I tripped over some detritus, and he laughed at me and then texted me "up yours" as I was getting to my car.

Leon is great... odd hours but he does a great careful job on belts and shoes and all else.read more
