As a winter Texan cobble heads is one of my favourite places. Music on the patio on Sunday afternoons is always a great vibe. Ownership has recently changed however and the service is inconsistent and slow. I fail to understand why when there is five people who all order dinner at the same time food cannot come out at the same time, not in drubs and drabs With one meal being delivered 20 minutes after everyone else is finished Quality of the food is still good but there is a system management issue. There is a lot of new staff and high turnover which points to lack of training by management . I sure hope they can improve and bring back the consistency of service that Cobbleheads was good at because it has so much continued potential read more

We went with a party of 20 ladies with reservations on a weekday. Service was not good. Took too long to get our food, no refills on drinks, one lady didn't get her food til rest were almost done. We haven't been to Brownsville for a couple years, but when we do, we always stop at Cobbleheads as we loved the ambiance, food and drinks! We were in town and took some friends there. We saw the sign said "new management" . . . not sure how long they've been there, but something needs to change! Our server, Janet, was very sweet and friendly, but the first thing she asked was our appetizer order. We said we would like to order drinks first so she brought us water and took our drink order. We then ordered ceviche and queso with chips. We got our water. Awhile later we got the ceviche, which was good. Five minutes we got the queso (which was melted bland cheese, which we expected much more for a $12.00 appetizer, we ended up asking for jalepenos to add to it). We kept asking about our drinks and she said there was a new bartender. One of our party ordered a Lemon Drop Martini (which was on the drink menu so shouldn't be a big deal) and we all tasted it and it was terrible. Janet did take it back for us. The drinks came our one at a time and we were almost done with our apps by the time we got our final drink. We are bummed because this was one of our favorite spots in Brownsville. We may give it another try awhile down the road. Hopefully the "new management" gets things figured out. We were there at about 2:00 in the afternoon and there was only a handful of people there so it wasn't because they were busy. read more

Stumbled across this place on our way to South Padre and it was a cute place off the water. The waiter was very attentive and even gave us recommendations for when we got to South Padre. The music was on point and the fresh margaritas were very tasty. I ordered the fried mushrooms and the shrimp salad. Everything was really good. The mushrooms were the biggest I've ever had that were fried but it was was still tasty. Parking is plenty and they have an outdoor patio that was filling up. We highly recommend Cobbleheads! This restaurant has great food and an awesome ambiance and service! I had a delicious seafood plate that was well prepared with shrimp and crabmeat. And my husband had a delicious avocado burger that to his surprise had no avocado; but was still very yummy! After dinner we decided to go outside to relax and enjoyed listening to the venue band play a variety of music! We were seated close to a group of people that were there to celebrate a birthday. It was nice to see people from this group get up to dance with their perspective partner or family member; like their grandchildren. This was very pleasant to witness. First, I admit that I wasn't sure about this place, since the reviews were so mixed, I'm pleased to say that my coworker and I enjoyed this place! We sat on the back patio, overlooking the water, and it was quite pleasant, despite that it was the middle of August. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive, the menu has a large variety, and the prices were reasonable. We each ordered the same thing, the avocado stuffed shrimp and crab seafood cocktail, served on a bed of iceberg lettuce, with 4 stuffed mushrooms as the corners. It was delicious and just enough food for each of us. The meal was also served with warm rolls. We weren't there for it, but on Wednesday nights they have live music on the back patio. Because we like the atmosphere at Cobbleheads, we have tried 4 times now. We have taken people birthday parties so been in groups of 12 and just 2 of us. We have gone on Sunday afternoons, weekdays, and this past Saturday night. Something has been wrong w our order 3 of the 4 times. For example, ordered beef tacos & was given chicken. 3 of the times, including Saturday, the waitstaff never comes back for refills on drinks. Ordered a seltzer w glass of ice, didn't get ice so asked when he brought drinks and still never got it. Husband had soda and drink was gone by time food came, 30 minutes later. Never got a 2nd drink either. Food is never more than warm. Fries were hard and cold Saturday. Pickle on husbands plate wasn't even 1/2 of a 1/2 of a spear. Music was awful Saturday - one song he talked about roaches at Cobbleheads and they laughed as they sang it. Cobbleheads has been on the Brownsville restaurant scene for years now, but I always like how Joe Kenney is constantly trying new things to keep his menu current. My personal favorites are something as simple as the triple decker but it's always so fresh! I also love the Tortilla soup both red and white, the street tacos and of course the Philly cheesesteaks.... I mean they are created by a philly born native! We decided to give Cobbleheads a try one evening for their patio and water view. The food was excellent, the portions were generous, and the happy hour drinks were strong! The service was really ideal too- our waiter was there for us every time we needed him, but didn't over visit or interrupt us. Just a few complaints- the view of the water from the patio was pretty underwhelming because of the hotel right across the way, so there really wasn't much to look at. Also, the inside of the restaurant building reeked of a sulphuric or sewage smell while we were there. Just walking through on our way to the patio, I nearly lost my appetite. No clue how anyone could have been sitting inside to eat. Not sure if this is a regular thing or if it was an off day. Finally, we started our dinner with the chips and salsa and both my husband and I thought the salsa tasted like soap! We wondered if some soap or soap water might have gotten into it. Very strange. The chef needs to be fired and replaced by someone who actually puts at least minimal effort into the job. The white tortilla soup was the most flavorless, watery thing I've ever eaten. Somehow even the cheese, tortilla strips, chicken, and vegetables were drained of their flavor, leaving the soup utterly tasteless. The glass of water with lemon had more flavor. Literally. However, the red tortilla soup is decent and flavorful. Also avoid the Rick Wrap, which features similarly flavorless beef that tastes (if it has a taste) like it was boiled in water. It did not seem to be seasoned at all. I had to apply my own copious amounts of salt and pepper to add even the slightest flavor to it. Very little effort seems to have been put into the preparation of the dishes I had. On the other hand, my girlfriend's Dean Wrap featured fajita steak and actually had some passable flavor and seasoning. Not great, but far superior to the beef of the Rick Wrap. The outdoor setting on the waterfront is very nice and was pleasant. Unfortunately the dining was less so. If you must eat here, stick to the fajita steak-based dishes as those are the only ones I can personal couch for having any flavor whatsoever. But the lack of effort put into the dishes over all causes me to suspect the other dishes are similarly uninteresting. Hopefully they will hire a new chef, starting giving a damn about their recipes, and make something out of their establishment that is worthy of the pleasant location and atmosphere. read more

A terrible mid-day experience. After a day of enjoyable touring in historic Brownsville, we topped the day off with a terrible dining experience. The previous visit here was good but not so today. Granted, it was a group of 12, but this should have been no problem for this well established restaurant. We were seated quickly and comfortably, menus distributed and the drink order was placed. That's when all went to pot. Not all drinks were delivered and the remaining took forever to arrive. Finally the waitress arrived and orders were placed. Nearly 30 minutes later, one of our party went looking for our server to order another beer. He had to enter the kitchen to find an employee. After nearly an hour our food began to arrive. Many complained that their meals were cold. The food was ample and tasty but that is all I can say positive about this dining experience. Sorrowfully, we will never return to this scenic, conveniently located restaurant. All because of poor service during a slow late lunch period. read more

Its hard to believe Cobbleheads serves unfiltered tapwater in the worst tasting water system in Texas. It throws off the taste of everything. Also have they not heard of the craft beer revolution? Try something other than Lovestreet by Karbach, dare try an imperial stout or ipa. The tostada salad was pretty except the dressing was way too sweet, the peanut butter weird sauce did not complement the avocado eggrolls which were pretty flavorless on their pwn. I LOVE this restaurant! We ate outside by the water, the view was pretty and a cat and duck were out there as well- they were friendly. I felt safe there with good covid precautions and a generally good location. The food was amazing- delicious and beautiful. I felt satisfied and full after I ate, good portions and it was refreshing!
