Amazing staff. I adopted Ozzy and he so sweet I love him so much thank you. The facility is very clean. This month they're restocking their pantry. So I brought 12 cans of wet food and 4 pound bag of food with treats. You can get your adoption fee waived if you bring food for this month!

I adopted my fur child from here a couple weeks ago. When I first met her, she was on stray hold and not able to be adopted yet, but I visited every day and the staff was SO kind about it. I especially want to thank officer Michael, officer Hernandez and I think the other lady was officer Lydia (I can't remember exactly). Also their director Britini was very sweet and even reccomend a vet she used to work for. Every day that I visited they were so knowledgeable and sweet, making sure I had enough time to bond with her before taking her home (she's very shy and fearful). The staff here does the best they can with the resources they have, and although it is a kill shelter I understand that this is out of their control and I believe they do what is in the best interest of these animals given the circumstances. It's definitely a hard job to have, and I hope it encourages others to adopt. I got my dog spayed and vaccinated before taking her home and her fee was only $20 with everything included, given a special they were having in July. The best $20 I've ever spent. Thank you for all the work you guys do

Shawna Abbot thinks dogs can walk on feet like these.

Neighbors found an abused/neglected dog. I wanted to take him to the vet, but Chandler at Animal Control said they needed to catalog the evidence before finding him a new home and if I had him treated first there would be no chance. So I handed over this little old dog who had green teeth, badly matted fur, gummed up ears and toenails so neglected they curled round and twisted the little bones in his foot. Poor thing was in agony when he walked. I handed him over knowing he would be taken care of. Such nice people. But.. I like to follow up. They make money from these dogs after all. Soon he was listed on the website as up for adoption in a few days. Five people in my neighborhood on Nextdoor wanted to adopt him. Today he wasn't lIsted so I phoned up to check in on him. Spoke to Chandler again and his boss, Shawna Abbot, who told me the little dog 'hadn't seen a vet because it was the weekend', his nails hadn't even been cut and they'd handed him straight back to his abuser 'because a dog is property'. They lied to get the dog. Actively PREVENTED him from getting treated. Sent him back to live out the rest of his short life in agony. Here is a photo of his nails. They sent him back to walk on these.Think Chandler would want to walk on these?

FINAL UPDATE: I am incredibly disappointed in Cobb County Animal Services. They lied and made up their own rules throughout the entire process of us trying to take care and do what's best for this sweet boy. If I were able to do this again, I would have never posted in the Lost/Found Animals of Cobb Facebook group (now knowing that county officers monitor the page, and I was literally in contact with the owner whose information was on the puppy's chip) and I certainly would have never brought this poor puppy to the shelter. We were assured over the phone, after telling an employee the entire story of us being in contact with the individual on his chip, that we would be able to participate in a friendly finder program and be able to keep the dog during his stray hold. In good faith, we brought him to the shelter for intake and they back peddled on what they had told us was possible over the phone and would not let us leave with him. The puppy was upset and now has a bad case of kennel cough, and his demeanor is changed, more nervous and clearly upset. We know he was abandoned by his owners (we knew that before we brought him in and told the shelter, but they disregarded) so leaving him at the shelter for 10 DAYS over Christmas was incredibly sad. In conclusion, I am disappointed in the shelter's leadership and management. Please know that I have said this directly to the manager of the shelter, Jacob Arnold, who was adamant I was given incorrect information and made-up rules and regulations on the spot. I waited until today to give this update, because we were afraid that if they saw this before his adoption was open, they would retaliate. This fear was based on their tendency to make up rules and programs as they saw fit. If they truly cared about the animals in their possession, some by force, this puppy would have not had to spend 10 days over Christmas in a poorly run, and kennel cough laden animal jail. It was humans who failed this dog, but the dog was punished for it when it was not necessary. I am happy to report that we have adopted this sweet boy. But we will forever be weary and untrusting of the Cobb County Animal Shelter. PREVIOUS: Still not claimed. My husband is going to take him back to where we found him and do some canvassing in the area in case his owners are looking for him over there. If that doesn't work, we're dropping him off at Cobb Animal Shelter to let them do their own search or re-home if it comes to that. Officially heard from the previous owners. They say they cannot find the contact of who they re-homed him to. Based off of our interactions with them, we are leaning towards possible abandonment, but continuing to do our due diligence to locate possible most recent or "new" owners in North GA. Found miniature Australian Shepherd on Noonday Creek Trail in Kennesaw today at 4:30 PM. Scanned for a chip and learned his name, but owners listed on the chip claim they re-homed recently but have no contact information of who they re-homed to.

The adoption process here is very simple and straightforward, unlike many of the other shelters/rescues in cobb and nearby surrounding areas. I adopted a kitten the same day. Although it doesn't smell the best inside, it is clean, and the employees were kind. For the entire month of July all animals under 1 are ONLY $20, and any animal over 1 is FREE so i got a steal of a deal. My kitten was only $20!!! Every other shelter/rescue i've been looking at in the area are asking AT LEAST $150. So now i can use that extra money to spoil my little one even more!! I would give it 5 starts but the only thing i did not like was that there is no bonding space for cats/kittens, like they have for dogs, so you have to stay in that room with the officer looking over your shoulder... which kinda of made me feel rushed picking a kitten and meeting them. nonetheless I am happy with my kitten and my experience adopting here. if i were to adopt another one it will be from this shelter.

Our rescue pup, Lincoln, being cuddly.

Before they brought him out, they warned us about how he looked. He had come in starved and severely matted. When he came out what we saw was a friendly, happy dog. He knew they had saved him. He came home with us that day! They sent us home with a container of special food for him. Since then we have been back for a weigh in and check up, an injured leg (he hurt it having too much fun), and neutering. Each time he was welcomed enthusiastically and with much love. The vet (Dr. Anna) took her time to talk with us answering all our questions. The day after surgery the shelter called us to make sure he was recovering well. All communications with Homeless Pets and in particular Susannah have been positive, helpful, and timely. If you are looking to adopt a pet, I can't recommend Homeless Pets enough!

The dog was bleeding from its bottom the first day and after notifying the rescue who also has a vet on site, they only said "it will clear up". A vet never called to check on the dog or asked to see it. Once they got their adoption fee and got rid of the dog, they didn't want anything else to do with it. They claim they get dogs healthy for adoption which is completely false. After multiple messages to the rescue and getting no where, I took the dog to my vet who performed a $2500 surgery the same week. I gave the rescue an opportunity to make it right, and they refused to compensate for any of the cost. Very disappointed in a local rescue who claims to be looking out for pets. These are the facts, and they know what they did was very wrong.

I had my first foster dog for a few months and she recently got adopted to a wonderful family. I can't tell you how cool it was to help a dog who literally was on death row at a local shelter to get healthy again and then to find a new home. AARF made it a really easy and rewarding experience to volunteer and they help wonderful animals find great homes. There are other rescue groups in Atlanta and they are all doing amazing work. I'm certainly not saying AARF is any better than any other rescue group because I haven't volunteered with any others but I am saying that the people at AARF rock and I really love working with them.

Fostering an animal while it finds a home is one of the best things a person can do. Animals in tiny cages where they don't get room to run and play can get issues that can take years of training and care to treat. But, give a homeless animal a temporary home while you find a permanent one and it can learn from your other pets or just get used to what it is like to have a nice home. I am still training my dog on some basic lessons, but once she's ready to teach others, I plan to foster. Check their web site if you want to foster or need a pet yourself!
