I had two issues with this company. 1. When my son completed the drivers Ed course, I received an email that said the certificate was on the way. 5 weeks later, still no certificate, so I called and they told me I never ordered it! I explained that their email was misleading, it didn't say anything about needing to order it. The only option was for me to pay them $40 to express mail it. Wasn't happy with this as I felt I got swindled, but I paid it. 2. My son didn't pass his first permit test so I had to cancel the behind the wheel that I had previously booked. I canceled right away in the DMV parking lot with 24 hour notice. They tried to charge me $189 for the cancellation! The reason I booked the lesson before him passing the test was because their availability is very poor. I didn't want my son to wait several weeks to get behind the wheel once he passed the test and the day after his test was their only availability for weeks, so I had to take it. I'm cancelling the 6 hour driving lessons and going with a local company down the street that has better availability and better customer service. I'm not giving this company any more of my money. Not a good company. They stiffed my daughter on her vehicle hours one hour before her driving test, instead of focusing on her 2-hour instruction she was worried about whether or not she would be able to use the coastline vehicle she paid for. They tried to blame it on their scheduling system. I spoke with customer service she already pre-paid they were trying to get more money from her...or the instructor was going to leave an hour before her test it was a circus. The supervisor called me back, she apologized sort of, and we wanted a refund. She says I'll see what I can do. NO callback. They shouldn't do this to a young driver right before her test that's my two pennies. read more

I signed my son up for the 6-hour driving course. So far he has taken the first two-hour lesson. The driving lesson itself was great and there were many time slots to choose from... however, that was over the summer. I just tried to schedule the second lesson, but neither of the two instructors available in my area (La Mesa) offer lessons past 2:00 PM on weekdays and have no weekend hours/holidays. My son is in high school... so.... yeah, not customer friendly in terms of availability. My son's got one random day off in October that I will try to schedule for, but Coastline's October calendar isn't up yet. Wish me luck, either for scheduling or getting refunded! read more

Coastline accepted our enrollment and our money, only to cancel lessons on us without notice and only provided a partial refund after only having had one lesson. They are attempting effectively charging us 30% more for the one lesson than previously aggreged. I would avoid this company at all costs, I am suspecting a scam or fraudulent company at best and have now filed a complaint with our Attorney General, and Better Business Bureau. read more

I was looking around for a driving lesson for my daughter and Coastline Academy was quick on their replies. I was able to chat with them first. And it was so easy to pick a schedule on their website. We picked Catherine P. She arrived on time and she was friendly and professional. I asked and checked for her ID (which she was glad to provide) before she took my daughter for her first driving lesson. My daughter had a great and comfortable experience driving the first time with Catherine P. We will schedule another lesson with them before she takes her actual driving lesson. I'm not a fan of the misleading pricing for drivers ed. "Free certificate mailing" means they threaten to sit on the cert for a couple weeks before sending it out. If you want the certificate in a reasonable amount of time they'll charge between $40 and $60 extra - but of course they don't tell you this in advance. I can't support or recommend any business that takes advantage of customers like this. read more

This company "teaches" their students to drive in our neighborhood and tres pass on private property! They have the students performing very strange backing up over curbs maneuvers. Our neighbors are trying to get them removed from our neighborhood! read more

I will give this academy 5 stars. I called in late to get a slot at short notice due to time constraints for my niece who had her test scheduled today. Marie was extremely helpful and managed to find a 2 hour slot the day before the test. The instructor Horacio deserves special mention. He messaged me well ahead of the class, arrived at the location well before the scheduled lesson and the 2 hours he spent with her made the difference. He provided her with extremely useful tips and guidance and spent a lot of time explaining to her on the right driving techniques. He also corrected some erroneous advice that I was providing her and explained to me as well. She completed her test successfully today with very few minor errors. Kudos to Coastline Academy and more importantly thank you Horacio. read more

Derek is amazing! He arrived on time and is very professional. He observed my driving and told me exactly what I need to improve and made me practice until I did it right. Explained in detail the concept of blindspot, parking, different turns etc. He was very patient with all my questions and answered them verbally and practically! So I have driving sessions and so far, My instructor has been patient and helped me improve and calm my nervousness during driving. Would 100% recommend Shayne S. Hes a great instructor and driving is alot better for me now, Gives me great advice and really explains things well. I spent a lot of time and research picking a driving school in the area because I'm an adult driver with zero experience. I also wanted to be able to drive in the car I took lessons with for the actual behind-the-wheel at the DMV. It was absolutely the right choice. I worked with Diana and she was the most patient, humorous, and understanding teacher I could've been paired with. I ended up taking 5 lessons with her and felt prepared enough to take the behind-the-wheel and passed on my first try. (Definitely ask for Diana if you can!!!) Coastline Academy offers a great service and I feel much more prepared for my test. I had Diana as a driving instructor and she was wonderful! She listened to my concerns, reassured me, and had me practice my weak areas again and again, resulting in me feeling much more confident! Nigel was amazing!!! Johnny on the spot...He was prompt, professional and so patient!! I hands down recommend these guys. My son was in a pinch for timing to get his permit signed and with the hours needed. Nigel showed up and picked him up at my work and drove around for 2hrs and brought him back home. I have been taking my driving lessons with Coastline academy for over a month now. The instructors are always professional, on-time and empathetic to my learning needs. Their customer service team is very prompt in terms of communication. I love the ease of scheduling online and being able to follow my progress in the learning report. Their price is on the expensive side but I find them much more reliable compared to other individual companies here in SF (some of which only take cash, doesn't have a website/customer support team and is kind of sketchy). read more

They found both instructors incredibly friendly, calming, and knowledgeable. We were fortunate to have Tooti and Dawn as the instructors. The girls would highly recommend them. Always prompt. I took the package of 3 2-hour sessions plus them providing the car for the road test, and I'm very happy with their service. In fact, while booking their vehicle for my road test, there was an error which resulted in the actual booking not going through but me thinking that the booking was confirmed. Later when I checked, my booking was missing and I could not book for that specific time again as all their instructors were unavailable at that time, which was a big issue for me. But when I told Matt about the issue, he was very prompt in resolving it and ensuring that I had an instructor and vehicle available for the time of my road test. I also had two classes with Matt. and he was really wonderful, he really helped my get confident on the wheel, and pointed out the things I need to be careful about and pay extra attention to. We also had some very interesting conversations :) I had one class with Catherine, and she is a little more strict about errors, but she is very meticulous and helped me understand all the specifics I need to keep in mind to pass the road test. On the day of my road test, I had a one-hour session before the test with David, and he went through all the checklists that I should be ready for during the road test, and ensuring that I was completely prepared for the test. Needless to say, I passed the road test in my first attempt at the Santa Clara DMV with their guidance, and I would highly recommend the school to everyone! read more
