"Ohhhhh, this clown is SO getting yelped."…read more That's the thought that came to mind after the third minute of his eight hour traffic school class. (It didn't help that the night before I was scheduled to go to traffic school I was informed that most good insurance companies won't raise your rates at all after one speeding ticket.) I guess this is the perfect job for you if you love to hear yourself talk, if you think you are an absolute crack up, if you enjoy making cultural slurs and know very little about actual traffic laws. Oh! And you have to be really good at collecting $33 (exact change) from each person in a jam packed banquet room of suckers... like me. The only thing he had going for him was the fact that he was incredibly flamboyant. (God I hope he knows.) That flavor was his only redeeming quality. Otherwise, it was one annoying habit after another. Like repeating the word "hate"... Oh I hate it when drivers cut me off! I just HATE it when drivers don't thank me when I've been courteous. I totally HATE the way drivers in Monterey drive right next to you on the freeway. Blah blah hate blah blah hate. Or how about the way he called every female "hunny" and every male "bro". Yeah you and I are practically best buds, guy! There were several basic traffic laws he didn't know. There are some real dumb drivers out there. They need basic answers to questions like: "What if I'm driving behind a slow tractor that's pulled all the way over onto the shoulder-- can I pass it even if there's a solid line?" Or how about, "Is it legal to hit a pedestrian if they're crossing without a crosswalk?" Yeah. Really. I did take away one very useful gem though. If you are cited for a DUI or any serious moving violation and the po-po can prove you attended traffic school, it can be used against you in court. It proves you knew the law because you passed a self-graded true/false 10 question "exam". Damn. What a racket. Two stars for his enthusiasm and that awesome lisp. BTW this was held at Casa Munras Hotel in Monterey which was real nice as well as close to Wild Plum for lunch. The bar, however, should have been open. A spicy Bloody was certainly in order.

Traffic school is very long 8 hours, but I think compared to other traffic schools time went by very quickly. The only problem was that the breaks were very short and I was very tired at the very end. But overall it was not so bad and it was $33 dollars.

I just enrolled with this program. Enrollment process was fair and easy. Calling, having to…read moreschedule an appointment for intake and filling out paperwork....it wasn't much of a hassle. I've seen negative reviews mostly on this business and funny yet it wasn't my first pick. But since I had no other option I had to enroll (given courts timeframe demand although I could've extended it). I was very iffy on the location since it's right next to AmTrak and the location seemed very desolate. They are very stern on scheduling and enrollment (most of the reviews are because of rudeness and poor customer service) so missing an appointment set them and YOU back. A spot that's reserved and drops out affect the other person that needs that spot to meet requirements. As serious as they are, you have a responsibility to uphold your requirements when enrolling with them. They take it just as seriously. Intake is very straightforward, evaluations are done, welfare is considered on personal situations and most importantly meeting the person's court mandated deadline. Aside from payment plans, deposits and flexible ways to pay... you must follow the conditions set. When I started my first lesson it was a very valuable experience to remember. They care about you but if you waste your time let alone theirs well consider it "touché.

I was apprehensive about signing up for a class after reading the reviews, but DPI was convenient…read moreif I needed to attend in-person, the person who answered the phone was very pleasant, and the classes were all on Zoom. Yes they are strict about attendance, participating, rescheduling fees, etc. but, hey, you sign a contract with all the rules stated and if you don't follow them it's not their fault. Grow up! I showed up every week from 6-9 PM for ten weeks and it wasn't always easy to get home on time for the meeting or to sit for three hours on a zoom meeting. Overall I found everyone at DPI to be genuine and truly interested in helping people be more responsible drivers. The class was never punishing or shaming. My facilitator was Karen. She was fun, kind, and had good boundaries but was not super strict. I found the discussions and videos interesting. Let's just say I expected a bad experience and was planning to learn to meditate with my eyes open to get through it! The other students were interesting and fun. Thanks, DPI, for a good learning experience!

The staff is completely unprofessional and absolutely do not care about your well being. One AA group was offered per day. Zero therapy. The rest of the day you are allowed only to walk around the perimeter of the building, watch DVD's and smoke cigarettes (a habit I had quit, but picked back up there since it's the only time outside, and sheer frustration). They mistook me for another patient with the same first name, gave me incorrect medication and I was scolded for not attending her group meetings before they realized I was not her. They drugged me up with sedatives to the point I could hardly walk straight. I finally refused the meds to get my mind clear and checked myself out of the program. I had to advocate for myself in a very vulnerable state. Frightening. I am still sober since leaving. Most of the other patients had been there several times, many only returning due to homelessness and needed food & shelter due to it being a hard winter. Used needles were found under mattresses. I was only given one thin blanket in the dead of winter. Strip searched and forced to shower in front of a staff member. You have no access to contact friends or family. If you do get to use a phone, hope you have a number memorized since they do not allow access to your cell phone or belongings. Your calls are monitored by a staff member, IF you get to make a call. Many of my belongings were stolen. Zero privacy. Horrible lack of communication and follow through between staff members. This is a dangerous and unprofessional facility. Avoid at all cost.

"If you're going to gossip, tell yo own stuff; it's juicer and more accurate". 5. Participate. 6. No sleeping. 7. Respect other's opinions. 8. Only one person to the bathroom at a time. 9. No food or drinks. Clear water bottles only. 10. Wear appropriate attire. 11. No leaving the building after you enter. 12. No cell phones. 13. No profanity. Little words turn into big words, which turn into sentences. 14. Do not come intoxicated and/or under the influence. TIP#1: 50-75% first time offenders become second time offenders. Make the right choices and learn the first time around. TIP#2: If you're even a minute late, you will not be let into the classroom, will have to do a makeup, and pay a $25 fee. Keith likes me, so he was nice enough to let me slide one time when I came in at 7:01pm. 3 face to face interviews: These only last 10-15 minutes so they're chill! 5 group meetings with my counselor Lisa: I find these much more enjoyable and interactive than education!

Bill was very realistic and upfront at the start, that I would learn how to get feom point A to point B, but it might not be pretty! By the end of the lesson, I felt reasonably confident in my newfound skill. Bill gave me the Zen-like attitude and skills necessary to instantly recognize what was going on whenever the car did not respond as intended, and to take emotions out of the problem-solving process. These things can be so hard when you inevitably stall and anger other drivers---something everybody does when learning to drive a manual. A few weeks after my lesson, I ended up going on a fun drive through the European countryside to a destination not easily reachable by public transit. The guy at the rental counter, seeing I was American, tried to give me an automatic and I had to correct him. I did stall a few times, including while inching forward in highway traffic, and was able to stay cool and collected. As promised, I got from Point A to Point B! Someday, I want my next car to be something sporty with a stick shift. I am most impressed by the psychological skills Bill taught me in this context. These aren't skills I would have learned from simply asking a friend or parent to teach me. If I had teens, I would absolutely want Bill to teach them the driving skills that *will* save their life--a purpose he is passionate about from his previous job as a cop. Thanks Bill for teaching me a skill I will enjoy for years to come!
