I used Coastal Solar to install my Powerwall 3 after finding them on Tesla's list of certified installers. I had actually gone through Tesla's entire process to have them install it, but their online reps couldn't answer many of my questions. After hearing it could also be difficult to get Tesla out for service if something went wrong, I called Coastal Solar because they are a local company. Matt came out the very next day, answered every question I had, and made me feel much more confident about the decision. An added bonus is that if my system ever needs service, Coastal Solar is my point of contact. I can't speak to the performance of the Powerwall yet because we're still waiting on the SCE inspection before it can be turned on. But I did want to give a shout-out to the installers Jorge, Alejandro, and Patrick. They were fantastic. They worked hard in the heat, were incredibly friendly, played with my dog, and when the installation was finished, they took the time to walk me through everything they had done and answer my questions. Great experience from start to finish. I just wanted to give them the recognition they deserve. read more

You say you don't bait and switch? By definition that is exactly what was done. Your quote gave a written description with the numbers and exact type of panels, inverters and battery listed with the final total. I am sure the computer generated report gives you your total. In my business if we made a mistake we had enough integrity to honor the original written bid. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck it's a duck! read more

Matt at Coastal Solar was great and so was Grace in the office. Matt was able to come out the next day which was perfect for us and faster than any other company. We purchased a house with solar already installed but it wasn't working. Matt was able to get it working in about an hour and then got us set up with an account so we could log in and see how much electricity we are producing. Matt knew exactly what he was doing and we wouldn't call anyone else for any of our solar needs. I have complete confidence in Coastal Solar! read more

Excellent customer service and polite, professional field techs! Matt was extremely helpful in getting my system back to after finding out a different vendor did a poor install that wasn't fully producing. I will definitely be using these guys in the future! read more

I didn't go with Coastal Solar. Some independent issues developed that had nothing to do with Coastal. I dealt with Brandon at Coastal. I found him to be prompt, informative and responsive. In my case, he was no pressure. It appears to me that the company's posted Yelp ratings (4.7) are, for good reason, what they are. It is tough for me not to do the project with Coastal. read more

We're adding a new fireplace to our home and needed a couple of our Tesla solar panels relocated on our roof. We contacted Tesla and they said it would be a minimum of $2500 plus plus and they could come to our home to analyze our situation in four months. That certainly was not going to work with our schedule and our local Roofing Company recommended coastal solar. I contacted coastal solar and they came out within five days and gave me a price for all the work that was less than Tesla's basic visit fee. They did the work in about five hours time and they repaired waterproofing left everything very clean and were extremely courteous and professional. Very happy with our service. And I would certainly recommend them to others. Richard Cuen read more

I wouldn't think twice about using Coastal solar for my install. We got a competitive reasonable quote from them and the only reason we did not go with them was their financing company didn't offer what we needed. Their knowledge about Solar is top notch. Their sales person was friendly and available.as a matter of fact, I'm constantly recommending them to local neighbors. read more

UPDATE 6: 04/12/2023 After quite a few back and forths to get the documentation approved we finally received our SGIP check today. UPDATE 5: 10/15/2002 On October 4 my SGIP was returned for clarification and missing items. On October 5 Matt Riege emailed me to say they were working on the updates. I had not heard from Coastal Solar since that email so I requested status on October 11 with no response. On October 13 I again requested status with no response. On October 14 I again requested status with no response. To say that I'm very frustrated with Coastal Solar would be an understatement. UPDATE 4: 09/23/2022 I received confirmation this morning that my SGIP application was received by SCE. The app still needs to pass SCE review. UPDATE 3: 09/20/2022 A third week has passed and my SGIP has still not been submitted. UPDATE 2: A second week has passed since posting a negative review and our SGIP has still not been submitted. UPDATE 1: One week after posting this review there is no progress towards getting my SGIP submitted. Apparently not even a bad online review will inspire them towards improving their customer service. We purchased a 4KW solar system with a 10KW LG battery. Initially Coastal Solar worked with us to design the system we wanted. The installers were professional and did a good job. At this point we were very happy with Coastal Solar and we even recommended them to friends who were interested in getting solar systems. Now we're not so happy because Coastal Solar has not completed our SGIP application. SGIP is a state incentive program that provides a rebate for the backup battery. There is a limited supply of funds for this program so it is important to get the application submitted in a timely manner. The vendor, not the owner, has to submit the SGIP application. Shortly after the install an employee started the application process. Unfortunately he was re-assigned to the field before he could finish and there was no hand-off to someone else. My point of contact is Matt Reige. I called, texted and emailed Matt numerous times and over 6 months later our SGIP has still not been submitted. If I could I'd do it myself, but the vendor has to submit the application. Finally I threatened to leave a negative on-line review if my SGIP was not submitted by the end of the week. On Wednesday Matt called me and promised that it would be submitted by Friday. As you can probably guess by this review my SGIP is still sitting on Matt's desk. Our initial happiness has turned into a negative experience. read more

We were initially unsure if it was worth the effort and expense installing solar panels. After consulting with Brandan and Matt from Coastal Solar, it was a no brainer. They planned, designed, constructed and installed the system that was perfect for our needs. Even the financing was reasonable and price appropriate. The crew did a fantastic job during the installation phase and even initiated solar service without a power interruption. In the future, I can add extra panels, or a battery wall, without having to modify my current setup. Their product warrantees are fantastic. I found Coastal Solar on Yelp and picked them because of their stellar reviews. They are a locally owned company with an outstanding reputation and great employees. I would whole heartedly recommend them to anyone thinking about making the move to solar. read more

Coastal installed my solar panels, then my Tesla Powerwalls. They did an outstanding job from the outset and prices were quite fair. When I had material problems with some of the LG panels years later (not their fault, manufacturing defect), Taylor went above and beyond to take of it, involving replacing panels, quickly and efficiently and covered under LG warranty. I highly recommend them. Thank you Taylor for your excellent work. read more

Coastal Solar installed panels on our house and we couldn't be more pleased. They showed up on time, the installers did a perfectly neat and beautiful job, the office staff is friendly and efficient. We needed to have our roof replaced and had to hire a professional solar installer to take our solar panels down and then to reinstall it once to roofing was completed. I had called other solar companies and did not receive any calls backs. The only call back we got was from COASTAL SOLAR, that we didn't bother trying the other companies to try to get another bid. And not only was the first call back from Coastal Solar prompt, but I received two other calls from them to make sure that I had received a call in the first place! They were very responsive. I mostly spoke and dealt with Brandon Coleman who I would like to commend highly for his professionalism and care. He assured me that the coordinating of the takedown of the panels were in line with the scheduling of the roof teardown, not a simple task As it sounds easier than it is done. Brandon went above and beyond in terms of making sure that we were on track with scheduling and keeping us on the books while we waited for material, approval and everything else with the roofing company. When we had additional issues arise, not only did Brandon offer to follow up on these he made phone calls to make sure that the appropriate party could resolve it and he would follow up to confirm that it had been done to our satisfaction. I highly recommend Coastal Solar for your solar installation or if you needing to your solar panels moved. read more

The Coastal Solar crew removed our panels prior to a new roof being installed. They installed our old panels and some additional new panels over the new tile roof. They were extremely professional and knowledgeable. They showed up every day until the job was completed. They took the time to line up the panels and produce a very nice, clean installation. We will be using them for any future upgrades to our solar system. We whole heartedly recommend Coastal Solar for all solar related jobs. read more

It's been over a month and I cannot even get a proposal emailed to me. I spoke to Jon twice and even the owner, Phil once who promised to help me. Phil had Jon call me but then Jon did not send me the proposal he said he had made for me a month ago. I understand if he needed to make some revisions after speaking with me, but he could have reached out to let me know that he wouldn't send it yesterday as promised. I'm sorry, but I don't work that way, and I find it very unprofessional, rude, and unreliable to promise something and not even let someone know that you're not going to be able to deliver. I get that they are busy due to the NEM 2.0 expiring but they could've been honest with me a month ago if they could not handle my business. There is no excuse after a month. I feel like he forgot about me and my project. Which is too bad because I was really interested in working with them. Sadly now I don't trust that their customer service is any good and maybe I dodged a bullet by not working with them. read more

We recently purchased solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall back up battery which included installation from Coastal Solar in Ventura. The owner, Matt Riege, and his team of installation technicians did an excellent job from the start of the project to the completion. Matt attended to all the paperwork and permit aspects while always keeping us well informed along each step of the process. Ezekiel, Alex and Ramon, the technicians, demonstrated exceptional competence and conscientiousness through all aspects of the installation work. Oh, by the way, Matt's pricing for our solar package was very reasonable and fair by comparison! Coastal Solar installed our solar panels almost 10 years ago. Our system is still going strong. We have not paid for electricity since, and we regularly run our air conditioner and charge two electric cars with the power we are generating. We wanted to use a local, family-owned contractor. They not only installed the panels, they did the electrical work and coordinated with the roofing company so we could have a new roof installed as part of the process. They were also very knowledgeable about the tax rebates we would qualify for and calculated the exact angle of the solar panels for the SCE rebate. We have only had a couple of instances when some small part stopped working, and they responded immediately and did the repairs at no cost. We would recommend Coastal Solar to anyone wanting to install a solar system. read more

Coastal Solar is a great company if you're searching for a place that cares about their customer's needs and not just trying to see you their product. I had a wonderful experience with this company. Great pricing, knowledgeable and they truly care about what system and how many panels are truly needed. They showed up at the time they promised. Nothing was delayed. Our system is up and running beautifully. Matt is a professional who has great knowledge and excellent customer service skills. You not regret hiring this company. Small company? Yes, but you get more attention and customer care from a small company than a company that has monopolized the industry. Go for it! read more

Coastal Solar just finished putting solar panels up on our house and they did an amazing job. They made sure the panels were placed where we wanted and the conduit from the roof to the electric panel was well hidden. By far the best experience with a contract we have ever hired. Matt, his Dad and crew are true professionals. Coastal Solar is a family run business that one would think was from a bygone era. They truly care, do an outstanding job, and are incredibly tenacious when dealing with a difficult city permit department. Once Matt got through the arduous permitting process our panels were installed within a week. Great people, great price, great product! I did all the work for you. I want to say how professional and hard this company worked to get my solar up. They are very good at what they do and I definitely recommend them to anyone that needs solar panels. Matt was awesome and the office manager Cynthia was very responsive to any emails I sent. Im not a very easy person to deal with due to the fast pace I go and expect. Our family has had some money problems for a while now. Our electric Bill is easily $300 a month, so when the guys from Coastal Solar (Markell and Oliver) knocked on our door to tell us about their program we wanted to know more. They were very helpful and knowledgable so we set up an appointment to meet with Amanda to discuss options and look into financing. We read their pamphlet they left with us, we checked out their website and did our research. We did not expect what happened next. The day they came back they were very thorough, measuring, photos, explanations for everything they did, they didn't shy away from concerns, they didn't bat an eye when we brought up our financial hardships, or concerns with financing. They were very empathetic and met us in our moment. Amanda not only discussed options for solar and financing but she gave detailed insight on how to manage our electricity consumption in the event that we may not qualify right away, she on the spot gave names and phone numbers of companies that help lighten the financial burden of utility bills and even mortgage payments. Amanda was able to actually help us sort through an action plan to going solar even though the possibility may not be in the cards right now. When they left we felt like we were actually cared for and respected in the community even though we haven't been able to be the best role models for financial responsibility. Since that meeting Amanda and Markell brought over the quote, we did not qualify for PACE because we were late on a mortgage payment, we got all details on how much time we had till we would qualify and Amanda again walked us through an action plan. We have already began to lower our utility consumption, we have utilized several of the non-profit organizations she mentioned to help get us ahead, and we plan to take advantage of their $500 referral program till we are able to go solar. Amanda has been a good sport and has answered late night phone calls filled with questions and has talked to other friends and co-workers who have similar questions. The customer service and love that comes from this team is enough to set an appointment. We highly recommend them, and can't wait till we can install with Coastal Solar! -Stephanie read more

Coastal Solar is the best! I started my research with SCE's list of solar installations in my area on their website (recommended). I contacted nine companies and quickly reduced it to five. Most companies sent salesmen and several never looked at where I wanted the panels. However, Matt Riege (Coastal Solar contractor, not a salesman) came out and went up on my roof and measured the area before working up a quote. I exchanged many emails between the five companies to learn and determine what equipment was best for my installation. I went with Coastal Solar because they are local to Ventura County, helped me understand what I was getting and gave me the best price. Matt was on the job almost every day and his crew were great. They took the time to explain why and what they were doing. A very professional installation! I received my Permission To Operate from SCE a week after they completed the work. I researched Solar products and installers for over a year. I finally decided to BUY - NOT LEASE - a Solar system last November. After reading many reviews about the bigger companies you hear on the radio and TV I knew where I didn't want to do business.I decided to: 1) BUY AMERICAN, 2)BUY LOCAL 3) COMPARE PRICE and 4)The firm had to be reputable. COASTAL SOLAR is local, family owned, which started as general contractors over 20 years ago, then started a Solar Division a few years ago. Their quote was very competitive, they installed AMERICAN panels, as I requested (made in Oregon), the install was very professional and note: they took extra care of my roof during and after the install. Lastly, they complied with my request to make the system look as "low profile" as possible. You can see my panels are there, but it is not ugly or over powering. I have 16 panels, so that is saying something! The whole experience with Costal Solar was pleasant, professional and fair. Believe me, if I was upset or simply not happy with any phase of my purchase or the product I would post it. It is a business you can walk away from feeling good. read more

I was connected with Coastal Solar through the Solarize Ventura program. I chose Coastal Solar because they a) were part of the Solarize Ventura program b) were a local family owned Ventura company c) used USA produced equipment. I was impressed from the very beginning. First Amanda and Matt came to my house and went over the entire program with me and answered all of my questions with clear and concise explanations. They were quick on follow up when I had additional questions. They researched financing options and went out of their way to contact the company and make the initial connections. Then when I bit the bullet and we scheduled the project, their two workers were prompt, polite and did quick work of everything. They communicated everything they were doing and when all was done, cleaned up all their mess. They showed me how to read the display and talked me through the final steps with getting cleared through the city and SCE. Basically they were there for me every step of the way 100% helping and supporting me and getting the job done in a professional and courteous and exceptional manner.
