With the use of the program I chose Foot and Ankle Concepts in Oxnard for my ankle surgery since they are close to where I live and I have used them before via regular insurance, and I could not be happier with my decision. Dr. Sherwin Nikamal is truly exceptional. He took the time to thoroughly explain every aspect of my left ankle surgery, answered all of my questions with patience and clarity. The recovery plan he designed was excellent, and my entire surgical experience went smoothly. The entire office staff, both front and back, were extremely kind, professional, and communicative throughout the process. I especially want to give a huge thank you to Ms.Reina in the back office. She went above and beyond, working tirelessly with the VA, jumping through numerous hoops and hurdles to get my surgery approved. She kept me updated every step of the way and played a major role in getting my surgery approved and completed in a timely manner. Without her tireless efforts, I truly believe my surgery would have been significantly delayed or might still be awaiting approval. I highly recommend this office and Dr. Sherwin Nikamal, especially for other veterans utilizing VA Care in the Community. They have proven experience working with the VA and made the entire process smooth/stress-free. I would like to not have another ankle surgery but if I do I will 100% come back to this office and ask for Dr. Sherwin Nikamal since I know I will be in good hands. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Agility drills, Jumping and pivoting were starting to become painful enough to start being cautious about it. I'm cursed with poor foot genetics unfortunately, as both my parents have Hallux Valgus aka The Big Bad Bunion! There are MANY options to choose for foot care in Ventura County, so how do you whittle your selection down to one??? Dr. Nguyen came highly recommended by many of the hospital staff that worked with him. My wife also had previous appointments with him, and appreciated his knowledge and bedside manner. Okay, sounds like a good place to start :) Turns out, Dr. Tim Nguyen is one of the kindest and pleasant doctors I've ever met, and a great knowledge base as well! I was well taken care of during all my visits, and once it was decided I needed Surgical Correction, I was comfortable with that choice. So surgery was performed at St. John's Outpatient Surgery Center in Oxnard. Dr. Nguyen gave me instructions to prepare for surgery and also received a call from St. John's the day before, on what to expect and more instructions. The St. John's Staff is WONDERFUL! Kind, skilled, definite examples of their motto, "Human Kindness." My Anesthesiologist was also a Dr. Nguyen, so I was in a "Nguyen-Nguyen" situation! (Get it??? Win-Win! Hah!) Dr. Tim Nguyen repeated all his plans for my surgery to Wifey & me again, answered all new questions, then off I went! Surgery went well, woke up with no pain, and didn't remember a thing of anything that happened in surgery suite or recovery. I sure felt like a VIP my entire stay (from what I remember). I actually didn't need the narcotics prescribed during the entire recovery. Six weeks later I am back to walking normally. Yay! Now gotta burn off all excess weight gain... Doh! EASY RECOMMENDATION! I've been dealing with a lot of different pain and it's been a headache dealing with even the simplest of asks with the clinics. Even the hospital I usually attend didn't do my foot x-ray the proper way. I wanted them to try again and they sent me to Dr. Vines in another clinic. A proper scan was done. Initially, he referred me to the Hanger Clinic. That place should never make orthotics. A foam mold is not accurate, and I was given mixed messages. Get used to them over time? No thanks. It felt like walking on rocks. When I went back to Dr. Vines, he saw their mistakes right away. This is where I finally felt cared about by at least one doctor. He went out of his way to get me to his main office. He could have sent me back to have them remake their mistakes and call it a day. I'm finally getting the treatment I need and most importantly feel like I have a voice. At least with one health problem, I'm not just another number in the system to be waved off. He will probably never know just how much his kindness and words have meant to me in a really bad year. I am only knocking off a few stars for the odd cancellations during last winter from the front desk. I had to wait a month and repeatedly try to call without receiving a callback. I still have pain off and on in my heels and toe, but I have opted out of surgery for the time being since I want to focus on physical therapy as an alternative.
