With the use of the program I chose Foot and Ankle Concepts in Oxnard for my ankle surgery since they are close to where I live and I have used them before via regular insurance, and I could not be happier with my decision. Dr. Sherwin Nikamal is truly exceptional. He took the time to thoroughly explain every aspect of my left ankle surgery, answered all of my questions with patience and clarity. The recovery plan he designed was excellent, and my entire surgical experience went smoothly. The entire office staff, both front and back, were extremely kind, professional, and communicative throughout the process. I especially want to give a huge thank you to Ms.Reina in the back office. She went above and beyond, working tirelessly with the VA, jumping through numerous hoops and hurdles to get my surgery approved. She kept me updated every step of the way and played a major role in getting my surgery approved and completed in a timely manner. Without her tireless efforts, I truly believe my surgery would have been significantly delayed or might still be awaiting approval. I highly recommend this office and Dr. Sherwin Nikamal, especially for other veterans utilizing VA Care in the Community. They have proven experience working with the VA and made the entire process smooth/stress-free. Cannot say enough wonderful positive smile to his very competent skills throughout this ordeal. I've been his patient for a year now as he carefully guided me thorough so many issues with my foot! Beginning with it being broken badly and then surgery to correct other issues. I really just felt like I was being truly cared for and about. I do NOT like needles or surgery! Well who does?? Dr Roberg just made me feel like all would be A OK and it is!!! This is day 2 and I have pain pills but I have no pain!! I've been dealing with a lot of different pain and it's been a headache dealing with even the simplest of asks with the clinics. Even the hospital I usually attend didn't do my foot x-ray the proper way. I wanted them to try again and they sent me to Dr. Vines in another clinic. A proper scan was done. Initially, he referred me to the Hanger Clinic. That place should never make orthotics. A foam mold is not accurate, and I was given mixed messages. Get used to them over time? No thanks. It felt like walking on rocks. When I went back to Dr. Vines, he saw their mistakes right away. This is where I finally felt cared about by at least one doctor. He went out of his way to get me to his main office. He could have sent me back to have them remake their mistakes and call it a day. I'm finally getting the treatment I need and most importantly feel like I have a voice. At least with one health problem, I'm not just another number in the system to be waved off. He will probably never know just how much his kindness and words have meant to me in a really bad year. I am only knocking off a few stars for the odd cancellations during last winter from the front desk. I had to wait a month and repeatedly try to call without receiving a callback. I still have pain off and on in my heels and toe, but I have opted out of surgery for the time being since I want to focus on physical therapy as an alternative.
