We were a little disappointed in this place after having seen it featured on Triple D, no one at our table had anything that they'd call amazing, and a couple had things that were just straight up not good at all. Things didn't start out all that good, as a couple of things turned us off about the service. We had a couple of non-seafood eaters with us that wanted to order food off their lunch menu (which featured more sandwiches and things like that), and they were told they could not do that OTHER than the seafood sandwiches from that menu. It seemed strange to us, as most of the components in the lunch sandwiches were featured somewhere in the dinner menu... it left them with very few choices. One just ended up eating potato skins, the other one got a chicken salad where the chicken was pretty much inedible due to how overcooked it was. For those that got seafood, results were mostly good. I just got a pound of "spiced shrimp" which was a good choice because I really just wanted a pile of shrimp. What came out really wasn't spiced or buttery in any way, but it was cooked up properly and fresh tasting. Someone else got a pound of mussels at the table which were more disappointing. There was no broth to speak of, no spice, no butter... it was mostly just mussels despite the menu's claims. Overall, three stars is a somewhat generous rating. No one really felt they would return, and most didn't like having to pay the amount asked for what they got. Maybe it was just an off night? Your experience might be better. read more

The menu states "FRESH Cheese Burger". When I asked the waiter if the patties are made fresh or come frozen, he said that they come in frozen and then they thaw them out. This is not considered a fresh burger and also, why would you want to go to a restaurant and get a previously frozen burger and pay $14 for that? Gross. The fries seemed previously frozen, the chicken tenders for my child same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if the crab cakes came frozen as well. What happened to going to a restaurant and actually eating FRESH WELL COOKED FOOD?!!? I can go to the grocery store and get frozen food for half the price. Ridiculous. Coastal Cravings gets quite a few recommendations for its fried seafood, but if you know seafood you may be as disappointed as we have been. The shrimp, fish and chips and clams are heavily breaded so that you mostly taste the fried bread instead of what you ordered. Draft beer, at nearly $8 a glass, is overpriced, even for Duck. On the positive side, the atmosphere is laid back and pleasant, despite the fact that Cravings is located in a gas station. Also, the seafood pots, with various types of seafood along with corn, potatoes, etc., like a Low Country Boil, while expensive, are a good idea (you pay a $40 deposit for the pot, which is returned when you bring the pot back). Unfortunately, staff don't wear masks and don't practice social distancing. read more

Came here in July while visiting OBX with family. We ordered the food line and it wasn't exactly the cheapest (but hey, it is seafood and you gotta pay for the quality right?). When you arrive at the restaurant (or should I say gas station?) there is a sign there to call a phone number to let them know that you have arrived so they can get your food ready for you and for you to go into the drive through window to pick it up. The issue is that the phone constantly rang and no one ever picked it up. I probably called 10 times in a row. I understand it was prime time summer.. and it was also raining (so more people likely to get foods to go).. but I sat in my car and kept waiting and waiting for someone to pick up. Finally I just drove to the pick up window anyways and surprisingly our food was ready. We ordered a few entrees for about 6 people.. and everything was decent, but not great. Maybe because it was a 20 minute drive home but the food was cold and not hot and steamy (instead of cardboard boxes for the food, I suggest having to-go tinfoil trays to keep food steamed better). Also the steamed seafood didn't really have any seasonings.. basically just steamed and you dip it in butter (for crab legs). For seafood right near the water, I guess I was expecting better.. especially with 600+ reviews and almost 5 stars. Yelp let me down on this one. Maybe it was just that day and they were super slammed or short staffed. Wish there was just more food for the price and it was warmer rather than luke warm/cold. read more

Cravings is right...the next day I was still wanting more of their really tasty peel and eat shrimp! Next time I'm going to try one of their pots- I would have done it but I was short on time that night but look forward to visiting them again. Our waitress recommended the Ultimate Brie BLT and it was a delicious twist! This BLT came with Double Crème Brie , thick sliced Bacon, Vine Ripe Tomato with Lettuce and Mayo on Ciabatta. Who knew that some of the best seafood around town could be found at a small restaurant tucked behind a gas station?! Don't be fooled by their location -- Coastal Cravings is totally worth a visit. They are best known for their scallops which come drenched in a thick lobster sauce (sort of like a lobster bisque). The scallops are fantastic standalone (perfectly seared) but when served with the lobster sauce it's really a next level dish. We also shared a lobster roll and fish and chips. The lobster roll was pretty small -- I know this dish is never large, but it was a bit smaller than I'm used to. The fish was super fresh and perfectly fried. The menu has a lot of goodness on it, so I definitely suggest sharing a few things if you can. My only complaint is that the backyard bar is a little misleading. There is a great backyard area with live music plus a bar and some tables. It looks like a completely separate establishment, but when we went out after dinner we realized that the Coastal Cravings menu is served outside. It would have been nice of someone mentioned the outdoor seating, and there isn't really great signage to indicate that. If I knew I would have loved to eat outside, so maybe they can be a little more clear about this. Otherwise, this is a great pick for seafood. If you grab dinner at one of the swankier places across the street on the water side you'll pay double for portions half the size. Something to be aware of! read more

Ok, we liked this place so much for dinner, we came back the next day for breakfast! It was so awesome both times with great food and service. The fish tacos were really delicious and had some creamy spicy sauce with crunchy jicama slaw as a match for the fried Mahi fresh fish. We also had the mahi Buffalo bites with bleu cheese dressing. Those bites were really awesome and spicy! For breakfast, they had traditional eggs, bacon, and pancakes with hash browns, but also had a crab cake sunrise sandwich that rocked! It had a remoulade sauce, egg, ham, and a spicy little crab cake. The bun was like a slider, kind of sweet and soft.The big surprise was the coarse ground fresh grits with lots and lots of sharp cheddar cheese on top. This was a big portion and could easily be shared, although I powered through mine. :) If you are in Duck looking for a place to go, it's right behind the BP gas station across from Duck Town Center. It also has an outdoor tent with lots of separation for safe dining. We ordered at the window for dinner, then ate outdoors. We sat and ordered breakfast and were served quickly. We had breakfast here. I had huevos rancheros, it was really good and the price wasn't bad for a big plate of food (around $11). Orange juice was good, tasted like fresh squeezed. My husband got a crab cake sandwich. It was pretty tasty but I thought it was a bit overpriced : $16 for a small sandwich that did not come with a side. Service was unremarkable. The restaurant is in a gas station. It is its own area, but you can see into the gas station part. There's not a door that closes between the 2 areas. We ordered takeout on a Thursday night. The online ordering system was pretty easy and the pick up system was seamless. This eatery is attached to a gas station, which makes you pause, but the food was good. I ordered the 1lb king crab legs gluten and dairy free (no butter). It really didn't need it nor sauces (I love seafood so I eat it nude often). My partner ordered the crab cakes and fries. Both were tasty (said he). The crab cakes say gluten free on the menu but they add mayo in it, so if you're celiac, it may be better to stay away because there's no way of knowing what is in their mayo. My partner (who has no dietary restrictions) had a stomach ache afterwards that lasted into the next day. He said he thought it may have been the oil. I had a few of his fries and felt fine (I am actually allergic to gluten) so perhaps they use a different oil for the crab cakes (?). Takeaway for me was stay with the steamed seafood if you're celiac or gluten intolerant. Fries seems safe, too. Would recommend! read more

Loved it, although the amount of flies was a bit of a buzzkill (pun intended). When I dined here it was outdoor seating only. The expansive seating area was under a large tent and had a picnic / backyard bbq vibe going which I loved. The service was good and there were so many fun games around the perimeter of the tent for the young-ins, including table tennis and hula hoops. There was a bar area where you could stand in line to get drinks and overall the venue had a very lively atmosphere. There was even a live band setting up to play music later in the evening. We received our food in a brown paper bag in to-go containers, which I'm not sure is due to the pandemic or always how it has been. At any rate it didn't bother me and only added to the picnic feel. The food, particularly seafood, is where this place shines. I tried the scallops, which came with rice and sautéed veggies and the grouper. Both were outstanding. The service was great and the place was very cute, I love all the outdoor seating, and heard they offer live music in the evenings. Landry my waiter/host was very friendly and helpful, but the food was a surprising miss. Their peel and eat shrimp seasoned with old Bay need to be eaten with the shells - otherwise you lose all the flavor. Sometimes I like eating them that way and sometimes I just want the tenderness of a shell-less shrimp, I want the option I guess, but these had no flavor once peeled. The shells were also difficult to peel off, sticking to the meat. The fish taco was a watery mess. Arriving wrapped suspiciously tight in foil, you see why when you open it, it just falls apart. The fish was mushy, despite being fried, and appeared mashed into a bunch of liquid, possibly from the vegetables, I'm not sure. My dark & stormy didn't taste right. I think the bartender may have used white rum instead of dark spiced rum. read more

I drove by the restaurant a few time because I did not know it was tucked behind a BP gas station. My wife laughed and said that it was an interesting spot so we had low expectations. We parked the car and noticed that they had an outdoor seating area and bar and wanted to dine outside. We made our way to speak to the hostess to grab a table. She informed us that outdoor dining was closed but a table inside would be available within 10-15 minutes. SCORE! We must have got there at the perfect time because after we were seated a line had formed and they were now at a 45-60 minute wait. The menu had lots of thing that were delicious. I had a huge hankering for fish and chips so that was on the hit list. The fish was super fresh and perfectly fried. It was not super saturated in oil whatsoever. It was outstanding. Coastal Cravings the family has been eating there for 14 years we figured out the other night. Before Guy showed up even. Always a great meal and drinks. The fried green tomatoes are great, the coconut shrimp are fantastic, I always do the crab legs and boiled shrimp. I am a glutton. The desserts are always a journey into delicious excess. Coastal Cravings is a nice place to have breakfast and lunch, though because it is off-season (January) they are closed for dinner. The food was nicely portioned, fresh, and served hot from the kitchen, Staff was great the first day, and okay the last day we ate there. Only negative was when my wife requested a straw, the response that they don't carry straws came off a bit snippy/snotty. Would certainly go back, might just need to stop someplace else to get a straw for my wife first. read more
