I recently moved to Scott's Valley. I was meaning to take my cat in to establish with coast Veterinary but kept putting it off. I treated my cat for fleas who had a bad reaction, when calling for an appt, they were able to fit him in SAME DAY! He usually hates everyone, my partner was shocked at how at ease he was with the staff, and how sweet everyone was. They gave him a bath (which I'm sure was NOT EASY) and my kitty came back feeling so much happier and better. I felt at ease as well. Mid week they called to check in on him. Mount Hermon is the BEST Veterinary Clinic I have ever visited, and here's why: My 2-year-old Labrador suddenly tilted his head to the right when he played ball and then stopped playing for this past week or so. Last night he also shook for the first time (like he is cold) after tilting his head, and it made me so worried. These past 2 years, I had been visiting 3 different VET offices near San Jose/Santa Clara, plus 1 failed attempt at Petco (please read my previous review on Yelp about this Petco), and all of them were disappointing, from unfriendly service, dirty facility, clumsy with prescriptions, uncaring staff with a 1-inch long nail, and trying to squeeze as much money as possible to the combination of all the above. I almost thought that this was just the norm. I even worry that if someday I went to a fourth vet clinic, and they saw my dog's health record showed that I had been going to 3 different vets in just 2 years period, they might suspect that I am one of that crazy customers. You know, the customer who is never happy no matter what. Since I happened to have some business in the Santa Cruz area today, I decided to try to find a vet in the Santa Cruz area and contacted Coast Veterinary Services this morning. They don't have an appointment before 3 pm. However, they recommend contacting their sister clinic Mt. Hermon Veterinary Clinic, which has an appointment at 2 pm. I called, and Karen from Mt. Hermon picked up the phone. She was super friendly and took all my information, and set up my appointment. My wife and my Labrador arrived at 2 pm, and in just 10 minutes, we were already inside the checkup room with the nurse collecting all the data. We use a dog muzzle because we worry our dog is not friendly to other people since he grew up during COVID, so we were unable to socialize him properly. A few minutes later, Dr. Cheryl Dembner came into the room, and she just understood how to deal with a dog like ours. My dog never even growls at Dr. Cheryl, not because my dog changed, but simply because Dr. Cheryl is the CARING EXPERT. Dr. Cheryl also explained to me the periods between vaccination for several vaccines, and unlike the other 3 previous vets, Dr. Cheryl actually goes into detail about the legal implication of the rabies vaccine and the other non-legally mandatory vaccine. We then realized the previous clinic was robbing us by giving us a second rabies vaccine and then put in writing that I needed to do another rabies vaccine in just 1 year's time. It's clear that Dr. Cheryl is NOT trying to milk us out of every penny and cares about the well-being of our dog. Dr. Cheryl then proceeded to check my dog's ear and other tests needed to make sure my dog was ok. Then, she took my dog to the back to clean the ear, administered the ear medicine, did heartworm testing, and also vaccinated my dog (the only vaccine that was due). Oh, actually, Dr. Cheryl, call my previous vet to ask them to correct the wrong record that the rabies vaccine is due in just 1 year, so we don't have to pay for another rabies vaccine due to legal reasons, but of course, the previous vet refused... This just shows Dr. Cheryl goes above and beyond to help us. Later, when Dr.Cheryl takes our dog back to us, my dog is happy, and he even kisses Dr. Cheryl's leg. This is amazing because my dog always growls and don't like stranger !!! Which can only mean that, even though we did not see what the team at the clinic did to my dog when he was at the back of the clinic, they clearly treated my dog well. Before I forget, the clinic facility is SUPER CLEAN, all the staff SUPER FRIENDLY (no stress staff here), and all staff looks Professional and Well-groomed. Just like in a proper medical facility. The way it should be. Not to mention, the price is also very reasonable. Although this clinic is almost 1-hour drive from my home, I don't mind driving and visiting this clinic again next year for our dog's yearly checkup. I finally found a veterinary clinic that my dog and I love to visit, and I want to say Thank You again to Dr. Cheryl and the staff at Mr. Hermon Veterinary Clinic. read more

My cat is a bit wild around strangers, he can be quite a handful. I always warn them when I take him to the vet. Often it takes some sort of tranquilizer to calm him down enough. Since I moved to this area I decided to take him in for a routine checkup and get to know this place. Again I gave the usual warning before opening the carrier. He came out of the box, walked over to the doc, and licked her hand, purring. Never seen that happen in the over 21 years I've known this cat. He could tell he was in good hands... The most trustworthy vet within hours of driving. I drive two hours to get to this vet, It's absolutely worth it and I've been going here for years even before the new vet took over. We have had two dogs pass in the last two years and we have a mini Aussie and just took on my fiancé's dogs mom as well, this vet is a fair priced and they're honest and I will continue to drive to this vet for as long as I have animals. I currently live in the Walnut Creek Pleasanton area and all of the vets out here are extremely overpriced and are not honest and rough my dogs around. I took my dog here recently because his ear was bothering him and I thought that something might be inside of it. Where I live the vet had told me that he would have to go under anesthesia so they could check and I had a gut feeling that they weren't being honest and to put my best friend under Without being sure didn't sit right with me so I called Mount Herman and they got me in within the week and and told me that there was nothing in his ears and that he just had some allergies and gave me some drops for it. He was better within a couple days and I didn't have to put him under anesthesia, for a vet to say that he needed to go under when he didn't is terrifying to me and shows me that it's not about the pets it's about the money. Mount Herman is not that way they are just genuine people who care about the livelihoods of your pets, this is not a cash grab that you see nowadays with other veterinary clinics. Going to the vet is going to be pricey regardless of where you go but these guys really aren't in it for the money and when you do go you will see that. I am very lucky to have found these guys. The doctor and the technicians are absolutely fantastic and very sweet and treat your pet like it was their own. My fiancé's moms dog is currently sick and we had to take her to the vet down here and they want $900 just to see her it's insane. It made me think of this place and wishing that I was able to take her to see these people instead. These people do amazing work and they're honest and they really want the best for your pets. I've been taking my pets here for sometime. The vet seems to me be caring but the price tag is high and there is a lot of error in their estimates, invoices and payment processing. They definitely focus on making money. Last month they ran our credit card twice for one visit, totaling over $1,000 even though the invoice was only 477$for the visit. Also overcharged us for nausea meds, double when they only gave our dog one. The invoice didn't match the transactions on our credit card, which we found on our statement. Ironically, their receptionist/ assistant, not sure what her position was, seemed confused and assured us she would handle it but never did. So both my husband and I had to take time off work to handle their mess. I wonder how many clients actually pay attention to the charges and how many people are actually being overcharged. Makes the whole experience even worse when you have a sick ill fur baby. read more

I am so grateful for all the staff at Mount Hermon veterinary. Thank you for your kindness, your patience (I know I'm a difficult client in this sort of circumstance!), and your dedication. Thank you for listening , and taking the time to go above and beyond for a dog you had never seen before. My dog suddenly stopped eating and drinking and was clearly in pain and not breathing normally. I was worried about her lung sounds and the potential of a foxtail. After being sent away with "no significant findings" in every field, from the vet at an emergency hospital, I called to see if She could be seen here. They were able to take her in as a drop-off, on the day I called. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming. Alex, the receptionist still calls to check up on us. The tech took detailed notes on everything I said, didn't disregard a single concern of mine. Dr. Dembner spent plenty of time on the phone with me getting accurate history, answering my questions, and discussing next steps. She listened to my concerns and stayed really late waiting on the radiology report, calling me with the news, and convincing the emergency hospital to see us ASAP. I have to say that I am not a yelp person. I hardly ever come on here unless I feel the need to. This clinic may be great, but we never made it past the lobby and I can guarantee we won't be back. We brought our minpin/doxen mix in today because her dew nail broke in half and she was bleeding everywhere. When we entered the premises my partner was holding a paper towel to our dogs paw to stop the blood and was herself covered in a decent spattering. We then waited for the receptionist to get off a phone call about some package that didn't show up. After her phone call ended, she promptly turned us away because we didn't have an appointment. We had the option to make an appointment. but they didn't have an opening until 12:00. We got there at around 9:40am. Again not the problem. I completely understand that and had we been treated with any ounce of kindness I would not be here leaving this review. My issue was with the receptionist's attitude and general lack of compassion. She rolled her eyes at our apparently simple situation and had just an overall rude attitude. She tried to blow us off without even looking at our pets wound to see about the severity. This wasn't just a nail clipped too short. The woman needs some manners. I get that people have shitty days, hey I'm having one myself now, but she had a real attitude problem right out the gate. The next location we went to, despite their google page having misinformation regarding an emergency vet on site, politely looked at our dogs wound, told us that they only had one vet on today and that we'd have to wait a while, but that they could recommend another vet up the street and gave us a direct referral for who should be able to help us. - the receptionist there handled this appropriately and kindly. read more

Walking through the door of Dr Imboden and Dr Levy's clinic always fills me with a sense of calm. The front desk staff knows the name of each of my six animals when we go for our visits. Recently, we had to put our dear pet rabbit of 7 years down. She had been through many illnesses for the past 3 years which Dr Imboden was BRILLIANTLY able to diagnose but she finally succumbed. NEVER have I had a more emotionally sensitive experience and peaceful letting go of a beloved pet than with Dr Levy by my side. We chose this vet for our dog & two cats after buying a home in the mountains & they have been amazing. We have had a quite a few visits in the last year between all 3 fur kids & they have always helped instantly. We are so grateful especially for the team we had last week for our sweet boy who unfortunately and unexpectedly passed the next day. Dr. Mac was so compassionate & urgent with accessing our pup, we instantly liked her as you can clearly tell she really cares. Sarah, who has always been so kind & positive, helped us before & this time. As well as Dr. Dembner, who helped us at the hospital & made sure Hudson wasn't alone & comfortable/happy which brought us so much relief as that day was very heavy. I do not recommend this veterinarian to anyone! They took full advantage of my elderly mother. Quoted her $50-$177 to clip their dogs nails. He is my dads service animal since toe amputation. So she offered to wait while done even hold a paw they said no he must be left. They said oh he's so mellow I don't think we will even have to sedate him. They charged her $300 after. She said you quoted me a lot less. They were saying oh well that was for Dr visit and recovery stay and toenails clipped. NOT COOL AT ALL! PRETTY SHITTY! We have always gone to Gary at Mountain Vet in Ben Lomand his Dr appt is $25 awesome guy. I highly recommend going to him if you come too this othat's takes advantage of our elderly locals! On top of the ridiculous price! The poor dog was high for 2 days and had Diarrhea for 3 days! I think they way over medicated him on top of it! Please be very careful with this place. Their dog is 75 pounds! We have owned dogs our entire lives. I never had problems with any of their nails growing so long and not being able to clip them. When I moved to Scotts Valley 4 years ago I needed a vet for my aging dachshunds. My eldest had heart issues that needed to be cared for. Dr. Imboden was fantastic! My younger one, who was 8 at the time did not need too much intervention. When my eldest passed, I was out of town and Dr. Levy took care of him, she was so kind and gentle with my daughter who was filling in for me. Now, as my "younger" one has gotten older, he has required much more attention. Dr. Levy has been terrific in her diagnosis and her treatment of my little guy. This place is awful. They try and charge you for things that your dog really doesn't need (like a blood test for my dog that was so urgent but didn't warrant a call w results like promised until I called multiple times and then was told there was nothing to know that was important). The vibe in this place just feels weird and uncomfortable. Anyway, I still went there for meds needed for my dog (trifexus) but my boyfriend and I agreed that we would go to PAH in San Jose for anything serious. Today was the final straw. I called them at 445 asking if they we're open and they said yes, until 6. I let them know id be there soon to pick up the trifexus. I get there at 5 and no one is there....waited 10 min until someone peeked out from the back and then slammed the door without saying anything. How nice. Waited another 10 min and even tried calling them twice, nothing. Awful place, not helpful, terrible service. If you're looking for a good vet, go to Pinnacle Animal Hospital in San Jose. We had to put down our 14 year old basset hound, Lola, today. It was one of the hardest days of our lives. We're long time clients of Mount Hermon Veterinary Clinic and when we called earlier with Lola's symptoms, Dr. Levy made time in her afternoon to see Lola. Dr. Levy helped us understand Lola's situation and helped guide us through making hard decisions without ever telling us what to do. I'm pretty sure Dr. Levy shed as many tears as we did yet we all knew that we were doing the right thing for our basset hound. We first decided to try out Mt. Hermon Veterinary Clinic because is was the closest vet to our home and Lola would bark incessantly when she in the car. Little did we know we would find two of the finest, most caring vets at this practice. Both Dr. Imboden and Dr. Levy are experts in their fields and great communicators with animals and their human partners. But, today I'm especially appreciative of Dr. Levy. Our poor submissive dog was attacked by two dogs in Ben Lomond. The folks at the vet had fantastic bedside manner. This was very sweet since we and our dog were in shock. They took us in at 11:30 on a Saturday, gave us an estimate, and completed the surgery in 1 1/2 hours. They repaired a deep laceration in her thigh, puncture wounds on cheek, and a laceration on her head. The Bill came it at the bottom range of the estimate. We entrusted our new puppies to Dr Imboden, ( nine years and three months ago) a male and female cocker spaniels. The female had only ear and skin issues, but the male was diagnosed with "fly-biting seizures" and was prescribed phenobarbital, we argued that the dose was large for a 33 pound dog.... Our beautiful gentle loved dog developed problems eating in February this year (2017) and had tests done for pancreatitis that came back negative. In early March (2017) he was ill and we took him for a sonogram at Dr Imboden's office. As a direct result of that sonogram we then took him to another veterinary clinic on an emergency basis. He was diagnosed with LIVER CHIRROSIS possible CAUSES include phenobarbital TOXITY and chronic hepatitis and we were devastated. My dog died July 7th a terrible death....liver disease caused by NINE years of phenobarbital he developed diabetes, pancreatitis and finally became septic and blood bowel issues. Dr. Imboden, his partners, and staff are fabulous! I have been taking my two corgis and, until recently, rescue dog to Mt. Hermon Veterinary Clinic for eight years. Whether the visit has been for routine checkup; treatment for hot spots; surgery for ruptured cruxiate ligament; having to put down our beloved, 16-year old mix; and now kidney disease for one of the corigis, the care and service have been the pinnacle of professionalism and compassion. Dr. Imboden is exceptional at explaining--in clear, straightforward language--what is wrong and what the options are. He spends time with his patients and owners; never rushes. Expert care, respect, and a caring approach are the hallmarks of this practice. What can I say? I am so grateful a neighbor recommended Mt. We have been taking our pets to Dr. Imboden and Dr. Levy since we moved to Ben Lomond in 2010. They have seen most of our cats and provided urgent care to our dog who was hit by a car in 2012. We have lost 3 kitties to old age and related complications in the past few years and it was very hard for us in each of the situations. In each instance, they not only gave our animals top care, they insured they sent condolences for each. An action so small that meant so much at those difficult times. Not only are they both fantastic clinicians, I feel like they take extras steps to insure they make the best care affordable and available for my animals. Having several pets, it is very helpful to receive options for care. Dr. Imboden often gives me options in how to care for my pets when they have small issues. For example, my cat had an abcess on his neck which had not burst. Dr. I proposed 3 options for care, allowing me to choose the one I felt most comfortable with. I didn't want my kitty to be put under anesthesia, if at all possible. Dr. I proposed he and his staff attempt the lancing without anesthesia to see if my cat would be a good enough patient to allow them to do the procedure. My little guy was good enough, but I credit the staff for their understanding, willingness and kind treatment of my cat in the successful procedure. I'm very disappointed in how a recent puchase for feline supplis I purchased recently went. I purchased a product for our cats "not medications". When I found out my spouse had already purchased I attempted to return for a refund. When I purchased product which was the last one on the shelf there was a small opening in the package but it was clear that the product was new and hadn't been used. It's unfortunate that this decision has cost this clinic a potential customer and a negative view of how they conduct business. I wait for the front desk girl to check me in as I sat there listening to her phone call about returing ammo she bought offline. I must have sat there with my dogs for atleast 20 min and by then someone else walked through the door who also stood around. After she finally stopped yelling on the phone about ammo the person who came in after me was helped. Everything got worse after that. A large amount of lack of communication not only between the staff but between them telling me when to pick up dogs..also they charged me more the next day even though I was told the $200+ I had paid the previous day was not all of it? I had no choice but to give them more money. But due to mostly the incredible rudeness of the front desk person I absolutely do not feel comfortable going back there. I have only left in tears from this environment and the inhumane treatment of their clients. read more

I've been taking our cats to Dr. Imboden for years and have always appreciated how thoughtful and careful he is with them. I know they're in good hands there, and he'll be open and honest about what needs (or doesn't need) to be done. The receptionist, though, is a different story. She comes across as surly, rarely looks up from the computer when someone walks in, never makes eye contact, and hardy speaks at all. Went there today from Santa Clara with my English Bully, who needs her tail amputated. I went in for a surgical consultation from over the hill. I wanted to see if I could get my costs down if I left the Valley. Dr. Levy spent a great amount of time with me- actually explaining why she couldn't perform the surgery, and even brought out an anatomy book to give me a full explanation. Not only did she do this, but knowing she couldn't help me, AND that my pets aren't even patients there, she still went out of her way to check in with her own travelling (board certified) surgeons, and also with Pacific Vet in Capitola and Santa Cruz Vet Hospital to see if any of their surgeons would be available to do the surgery. The front end staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. To say that I felt welcomed is an understatement. And to say that Drl Levy went out of her way is also an understatement.
