I forgot a huge and important detail- Dr. Mac wouldn't give me a referral so I could take my dog to be seen at UC DAVIS for info regarding his gallstone and an issue she had zero clue about regarding increasing liver enzymes. And, her favorite response is "Hmm, I don't know what's that's about." She had zero right to not give me a referral to inquire about his health issues- it's not her call! She also had me constantly worried about his gallstone by misinforming me about the medication and the possibilities of what could happen. She has zero clue what she's talking about!!! She needs to go back and take some more classes. Do not take your pet here, kindness doesn't cut it!!!! Zero stars would more fitting!!!!! read more

Coast veterinary services are ok, not extraordinary. One of the vets was somewhat rude to me. However, if you have a very ill pet who relies on medication support and you need to have it shipped---DON'T EVER USE COAST'S SERVICES!!!! They only partner with BlueRabbit. I have had the most stressful experiences with BlueRabbit. The subcutaneous fluids my dog needs on a daily basis to survive either arrive late or not at all, and Coast refuses to utilize Chewy for prescriptions. If they really care about our pets you'd think they'd use a pharmaceutical service that will allow their patients to receive the best home care possible---which, in part, means receiving needed medications in a timely fashion! read more

I had used Coast Veterinary before, and had positive experiences, but my last visit was so negative that I shall not use them again. On Halloween, we noticed that our cat was missing fur on his ears, so we suspected ringworm. I called to make an appointment, and was gratified that they had afternoon appointments available. When I arrived, we were shown to a room and a rather brusque vet tech came in to take my cat's vitals. Shortly thereafter, the attending vet breezed in and examined my cat. She asked if he was indoor/outdoor, and I informed her he was indoor unless he snuck out. Her comment? "Yeah, they're tricky little f*#@ers". I'm not overly sensitive when it comes to colorful language, but in a professional setting it is simply not appropriate. She determined that he did not have ringworm, but swabbed his ears to check for mites, and offered to have her tech clean his ears and administer a one-time dose of Revolution to kill any potential mites. I agreed, and shortly thereafter collected my cat and went up to the front desk to pay. Where I was presented with a bill for $271, itemized as follows: Examination - same day urgent $121 Ear cytology: $60.47 Ear cleaning: $62.99 Revolution: $27.12 Observations: When I made the appointment, I was not informed that there was an uncharge for having the temerity to bring my cat in on the same day I made the appointment. I would expect that an ear cleaning would be included in the office visit charge. I would expect that cytology would be included in the office visit charge. I sent an email citing my displeasure and informing them I would no longer use their services, and received a standard "sorry to see you go, here's the office manager's phone number" response. Be apprised that if you seek care for your pet at this establishment, be prepared to pay through the nose. read more

Kindness away from home: I would like to share wonderful experiences at Coast Veterinary Services. My family went for a short trip in Santa Cruz area so we spent the night in Scott Valley. We were traveling with our 16 year old diabetic Bichon Frise, Reggie. It is not easy travel with Reggie but we love to have him with us. I thought I prepared everything for him , insulin, food, bowl, diaper etc. However, I still missed the most important thing, his U-40 syringes. How could I inject Reggie without syringes. U-40 is not common either. I tried Walgreens, CVS but no luck. Reggie missed out 1 dose of insulin so his glucose was Hi as he drank tons of water like crazy. I researched for veterinary clinic in Yelp and Coast Veterinary Services was shown. In the morning, I drove there. Tasha greeted me warmly. I told her my situation and I needed 5 of U-40 syringes. I sat and waited there then Karen came out and gave me the whole bag of U-40 Syringe (10syringes). Not only that, when I wanted to pay, Tasha told me to have syringes and she did not charge me a penny. Thank you Tasha, Karen and Coast Veterinary Services, you all saved Reggie's life. I really appreciated your kindness. You all made my trip memorable with human kindness. If I have lived in San Valley area, Reggie would be the good patient at your clinic. Dr. Tamara Abraham is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. She came highly recommended by a friend and the first time my 14 year old Lab/Heeler and I met Dr. Abraham, she was patient and gentle and let Savannah take her time getting used to her, all the while observing her movements etc. Our third visit to Coast Veterinary Services was to say goodbye to my sweet girl. Savannah has always been terrified of going to the vet and would start shaking as we drove into the lot. I knew her final moments would be traumatic if we had to go inside. Dr. Abraham kindly came out to the parking lot and climbed into the back of my SUV to administer the injections to Savannah who was lying on her own bed with her head in my lap. Dr. Abraham was gentle, considerate, sensitive and loving to Savannah and to me. What could have been a traumatic experience can only be described as incredibly sad, but beautiful! A few days later, I received a lovely, handwritten note from Dr. Abraham. I am grateful to have met this amazing human being! read more

I do not know where to start but I will begin about calling them to ask questions or make an appointment. When they do not answer the phone you get a message that says to call back in 5 mins and keep trying if you need to talk to staff. It seems they are too busy to take messages from a voicemail system. What about the caller trying to get help? Maybe I am calling from work on my break and I can not keep hanging up and calling back. I have been here several times with my older cat and once with my dog. I have not had a good experience ever at this vet. The Dr. speaks to you in this child-like condescending tone. Treating you like you know nothing about your pet and health. My cat has this upper respiratory issue where she was sick for like two years and I was going to several vets to get help. They would treat her with antibiotics and never get well. She was close to dying and all this Dr could tell me if to have some expensive camera put up her nose to see what was going on. I could not afford a $1.5k treatment that would not guarantee results on a cat that was 18 years old. I took my cat home and did some research myself. I called the office back and asked if they could take a sample of her mucus to see if there was a better-suited antibiotic that could help save my cat. They said yes and I took her back in. $300 and a week and a half later. I got the news that there was a better antibiotic for her illness. Good thing because my cat was truly dying. It has been two years and my cat is still on these meds. She is to take 1/2 a day. The vet's office will not cut them for me. So I am cutting them and most of the time they break into tiny pieces. I am not sure she is getting the correct dose because of the pill breaking into pieces. Plus she will not let me give her the pill by mouth so I have to crush into her food. She is better while on them but if I take her off she gets sick quickly. The office would not give me more pills after a year and made me bring her in for a $300.00 vet bill just to tell me what I already knew. That she is not completely better. The Dr wants to sell me all these supplements and I keep telling her I have tried to give my cat all this stuff and she will not eat it. The Dr told me to stop the meds and see what happens. Well, guess what my cat got sick in two days. Now let's discuss trying to get a prescription refilled. I send it in online and hear nothing for days. I call and am told, "It is ready for pick up." They texted me. But when I started going there they were texting me about the wrong animal and when I called them to tell them. They told me to text back STOP. So now I can't get texts for my pet. They will not call you. So I have to remember to keep calling them. It's super frustrating when you work full-time and have a part-time job as well. Today, I stop by to pick up the meds and it is $30 more than the last time. I mentioned this and was told, "It's inflation." I am done with this place, the customer service is sub-par and just because they have a fancy new office they think they can charge almost 100 percent more. read more

Thankful to have taken my dog to this vet! After visiting a few other vets and almost losing hope that my dogs quality of life would come back these vets helped bring my dog back. She's back to jogging on walks and not having to sneeze and blow snot. She can now breathe freely. After 6 months of green nasal discharge, multiple antibiotics, chest x-rays ,blood panel, urine analysis, Coast was able to prescribe a "cocktail" of nose drops and antibiotics that have kept the green mucus under control. My dog is no longer in discomfort just trying to breathe. Thank you, very helpful! read more

We are very happy to have found such compassionate veterinarians for our pets at Coast Veterinary Services. We have worked predominately with Dr. Mac, but we have also seen Dr. Sullenberger as well. Both of these doctors care deeply about the pets they serve. Dr. Mac worked with us while our nearly 15 year old terrier mix's health declined, and she was there for us when we had to put her down. Dr. Mac helped guide us on if it was the right decision to put our dog down and then she stayed late on a Friday night to ensure we had plenty of time to say goodbye. She waited for our whole family to arrive to say goodbye and she also let us stay with our girl Gemma for a long time before she administered the euthanizing medication. Additionally, she provided a relaxing medication to Gemma so she did not suffer at all during the process. It could not have been a better send off to heaven for Gemma and we owe this all to Dr. Mac and the staff at Coast Veterinary. Additionally, Coast Veterinatry made a donation to a non-profit for animals in Gemma's name. We want to thank Coast Veterinary Services for providing compassionate care to these amazing animals. We brought our 8yr old AmStaff here. She has chronic tummy issues and we needed answers. Our fur baby was seen by Dr. Sullenberger. Our puppy had a foxtail in between his toes and I was dreading taking him to our regular vet near our house. I decided to try Coast instead, and I have no regrets!! I take my pet to Nautilus rehabilitation for regular weekly arthritis treatment. First of all, all the staff are so nice and friendly. They promptly provide necessary service when needed. When Dozer tore his CCL last March we were given two options for his treatment (at another clinic). To do surgery on his knee, or to do nothing. We are not doing surgery on an 11 yr old dog, but doing nothing did not seem right either. We decided to take Dozer for physical therapy to aid in recovery and help keep him moving. When we found out that Dr. Sullenberger specializes in physical therapy we were thrilled because she was Dozers vet from when he was a puppy till about 5 year old! We are so happy that we have been seeing Dr Sullenberger for Dozers CCL recovery! She has been really helpful in guiding us how to help Dozer recover with out surgery! First she told us about the Poshdog knee brace. With out the brace Dozer can't go on walks, and seems to have difficult time with his knee. Then she gave us home therapy tasks to do at home with a phone app embracing technology. Also laser light treatment on his knees and back end to help blood flow and aid in healing. All of this adds up to Dozer going from unable to walk to several 20-30 min walks a day! She has literally saved Dozers life! This week he started aquatic treadmill sessions, and after just a few sessions he seems to have improved a lot. Dozer loves going into see Dr Sullenberger and all the vet tech's. This is the only veterinary office that Dozer drags me into cuz he is so excited! Usually he pulls away from vets offices and does not want to go in! (They got a secret weapon! Some special dog treats that Dozer goes bonkers for...) We are so happy to have reunited with Dr.Sullenberger at Coast Veterinary Clinic! I strongly feel that she has made a huge difference in Dozers life and recovery from his CCL injury! She is very knowledgeable about everything veterinarians usually know, plus she is an animal physical therapy ninja! And also very easy to talk to, and to understand what she is saying. Coast Veterinary is hands down the best place to take your pet! The staff is very kind and knowledgeable and they give your pet the best care! I had to rush my two dogs there for eating a poisonous plant and they were superstars! They even saw me after hours when I was in panic mode. They were on it fast with whatever was needed to make my dogs better and to not suffer from any symptoms of eating the poisonous plant! Both the dogs made it out with no symptoms of eating the poisonous plant because Dr. Sullenberg and Tasha were amazing! Dr. Sullenberg was fantastic with my dogs! She didn't just treat them as patients but like they were her own dogs and that is a fantastic feeling! Tasha, the vet tech is equally as amazing! She is so easy to talk to and can help you with literally anything and everything you need. Everyone I have met there is incredibly friendly and I recommend this place to anyone that I talk to about pets. I'm so happy with every aspect of this place. They really thought of your pets comfort when designing it. Couches the dogs can get on with you in the waiting room and the exam rooms. The exam rooms have little beds and even the exam table has a little comfy blanket so it's a little more comfortable. Now on to Dr. Sullenburger, she's amazing, she got right down on the ground with my dogs, she communicates clearly and really has a finesse and kindness with the animals. My Mazzy and Luna were very comfortable with her. The vet tech and even the receptionist are great. There's not one thing I'd change about this place. read more

Coast vet has been by far our favorite Vet. My dogs and I have had many experiences good and bad with many different Vets and their staff. Coast Vet has been our favorite. My male doxie was terrified to go to the vet, the second we would pull up he would start shaking. When we pull up to Coast Vet he is actually happy to go in (due to his favorite treats they have at the desk). The rooms are set up to feel very welcoming and comfortable, which makes it easier on him as well. We have seen both Dr. Phinn and Dr. Sullenberger and they are both amazing and compassionate. At one of our appointments Dr. Sullenberger even got on the ground and examined my dogs to make him more comfortable. All the staff at Coast Vet are amazing, compassionate and friendly. I took my puppy here for their first exam right after I got her. A friend recommended them. I had been running late so I called on my way to confirm if it was ok for me to still come for the appointment or if we should reschedule. The person I spoke with on the phone said no problem. So I showed up and the check in staff was friendly and the vet technician that came to get my puppy from my car was too. My gripe with this place was my experience with the vet. I understand with COVID we have to be careful so I'll admit that having my first interaction over the phone while she has my puppy and I'm outside was weird. But there was no discussion about my plan for the puppy, trying to understand my POV, she just very pushy. She was pushing vaccines that I did not want to get. And every time I tried to ask a question or explain my understanding, my concerns, etc. I didn't feel heard. For context, my puppy is quite small and won't be more than 20lbs. The vet wanted to give her lepto. When I shared my concerns about adverse reactions and that I wanted to wait and do more research she honestly made me feel like an idiot. "Oh is this your first dog?" Yeah, my first puppy but emphasis on MY. I'm all about listening to experts but at the end of the day I want a vet that is willing to discuss the pros and cons and be a partner. And when I told her that I wanted to table it and that she was overwhelming me she said "well you were late so I have to go fast." I have since then found a different vet who is open to having a relationship where we can talk about pros and cons, and we can take a pragmatic approach to caring for my dog. I have done additional research since this happened and I am so glad I didn't let the vet at Coast vet bully me into something that didn't feel right. (Also, for anyone that has gotten other vaccines like lepto I think that's great. It's a decision every dog owner makes for themselves and their pet, and can be a really good decision depending on the circumstances. Just wanted to clarify that my review is not a judgement on what meds or vaccines to get.) read more
