Here's my breakdown of pros and cons to the thrift: Pros - prices. If it's a regularly marked item, their prices are good. Dirty clothes. The people sorting do a pretty good job imo of tossing clothes that are not wearable. Once in a while they have rag bags, so that's good they're trying to keep clothes from the landfill. The people that work there. Honestly, everyone I've come across (I'm there daily it seems like) is really sweet. If you didn't know this about Mendocino co, we were one of the last counties to get rid of the mask. I was in there several times tourist came in, and was upset we had that mandate still. Folks who are working in PB put up with a lot of meanness, and still managed to be kind. Cons. Pricing up clothes that seem to have a higher value. Can we just stop this already. This misconception of what has value is getting out of hand. Marking up shoes. Again, flat prices on shoes please. All in all, PB is a good thrift store, and I appreciate having it in my home town. The prices are great, and I found some good pottery and they had so many cute teapots. Staff is friendly, I didn't get a chance to look through the clothes but the pricing sheet was very reasonable. The only thing is I wish their carts were a little more practical. They have the smaller really low to the ground carts that don't have a spot for a baby in the top. It was a little difficult to shop with my kiddos, but if you remember to put your stroller in the car (unlike me) it shouldn't be an issue.

I will be placing the same review on the Yelp for Hare Creek NURSERY, as it looks like they have their own Yelp. You only need to read one or the other. (Or you can read both if it helps their business!) SO... I brought an old, neglected Poulan 4000 chainsaw to Hare Creek Nursery and Saw Shop in Ft. Bragg today. (We are moving to our place in the area permanently this summer after YEARS of visits and my wife growing up here and so on...) I brought it in for a service and sharpening at around 11:00am, after the saw sat unused for almost 20 years. (My little electric saw has sufficed over the years "down there.") The Woman at the counter was super helpful, and explained how the diagnostic fee worked and would be applied if the saw could be serviced, but she also gently let me know that the age of the saw and the lack of attention over 20 years could be an issue. After she told Suburban-Me why I couldn't fit a larger bar to it. Because I asked. (At least I knew what the bar was...) Said they would call me early next week with the news, as they weren't super busy. (Stoked! Because I actually called them last August, and was told I could drop said saw off but it might be 4-5 weeks before it was done. Which I now understand. And still should have just dropped off.) So maybe an hour and 15 minutes later, as my daughter and I were finishing lunch at Laurel's Deli, (another GREAT place with ROKKEN service), I got a call from Hare Creek Nursery and Saw Shop. (Because cell service!) Saw was done. Had some issues, but they got it sharpened up and running and should be good for a few more years of real work. I was kinda shocked. They HAD me for the sale of a new Husqvarna. But they salvaged my old saw. (Which was my Father's, and before that my Great Uncle's.) When I picked it up, the Senior Manager came out and told me that when I dropped it off, he overheard me say that I had some trees down on my property that were a problem. So he said he "put the shop on it since it was slow anyway." That is legit SERVICE, the way it should be. That is old-school CLASS, the way it USED to be. THAT is how you create a customer for LIFE. One who will his new Husqvarna from Hare Creek.

We went on a Wednesday to see if we could get a replacement. We could only be here in FB for three days then had to return home 170 miles away. Jose found us an easy to operate flip phone for our family member who is not cell phone savvy, however Jose didn't have it stock and didn't think he could get us the phone before we had to return home! But Jose did get us the phone in time that saved us a return trip! Phone works great, our family member who will be in rehab at least another month was thrilled as well! Jose is our hero, great guy, great employee, knows how to treat his customers!

We were reassured that if it didn't work we could just bring it back and they'll just return it and maybe charge a restocking which we were fine with. Unfortunately the JetPak didn't work so we brought it back maybe 18 hours later on Sunday. Logan wasn't there but the African American gentleman was and he said he will wave the restocking fee, but he will have to have Logan take care of removing it from the account because he didn't know how; but he would make sure Logan does it. Well two months later we are still trying to get it removed and Verizon says Logan from Fort Bragg has to be the one to do it but we can't get a hold of Logan and he is trying to pass blame to Verizon, meanwhile we have lost close to $500 because of Logan's mistake and down right lack of customer service and care.

The item was shipped next morning, and arrived priority mail within just a few days, nicely packaged and seems to be a really high quality blade. We were recommended this company by a master craftsman furniture maker in Chicago who specializes in hand tools and 18th century woodworking, and highly recommend using Hock Tools for your woodworking blade needs.

As I understand it, he started working with James Krenov when Krenov was at the College of the Redwoods - Ron making blades for him and his students. I've only purchased a few of his blades but I will certainly continue to buy more, as I can afford them and as I need them. They are so much better than others I own. They hold a great edge and are wonderfully thick, preventing chatter. I've made Krenov-type planes around his wooden body plane blades and love them. I can't wait to get one of his spokeshave blades as well. And all the rest, to be honest. I've got a crappy block plane that I want a Hock blade for but the blade would cost more than the plane by far. It's not that the blades are that expensive, it's that I bought that horrible a block plane. I'll wait and make another woodie instead. I've recently purchased some good steel and made a couple blades myself. While they turned out better than the stock blades I own they really aren't nearly as good as the Hock Tool blades. I also didn't save any money by the time I add up all the tools and heat treating stuff I needed. It was fun, but not a great saving. Ron Hock has also written a great book on sharpening tools of all sorts. In my few calls there I've spoken to both a lady working there and Ron Hock himself and both were helpful and friendly.
