I have been a patient at Coast Dental for 10 years. He has cared for my family. He is a wonderful, caring, and excellent dentist. I hate to leave him, but I must. The office staff has changed gradually but greatly, over the years. They are incredibly rude and inefficient. I had an appointment for this afternoon, and when I got there they told me they hadnt time for the cleaning, and i explained that isnt easy for me to get out as I care for my sick husband. They then told me after i waited to at least see my dentist about an issue, that Dr. now had two emergencies and I also would not be able to see him today either. I explained I had an appointment made through their call center, (no mire direct-to-office calls), but they rudely said they had "nothing to do with that call center."! I walked out. I have never had such rude people to deal with. I left and wint be back, no matter how much I love Dr. Windom. It's really too bad.​ read more

Aggressive upselling and questionable practices. I'm 25 years old, had braces, worn retainer for 10+ years, never had a cavity, floss and brush regularly, and have never missed a 6-month cleaning. Dentists always say my teeth are perfect. Except here. It had been six months since my last cleaning, so I made an appointment for an initial exam and cleaning as a new patient. However, when I got to the office, they told me that the appointment was just the exam and that the cleaning is scheduled at a later date (opposite of what the appointment description was). Annoying, but whatever. They said I could come in for cleaning tomorrow. After X-rays, the hygienist came in, stabbed and pressed down on my gums until I tasted blood so he could diagnose me with gingivitis. They sent my X-rays to a dentist who saw me over ZOOM! You don't even have a dentist look at your teeth in-person! I was skeptical about the online gingivitis diagnosis because all the sudden my bill was over $500 with insurance EXCLUDING X-rays. The assistant notice my skepticism. She was able to get another dentist who in the office that day to look at my teeth. He said they were perfect. Shocker. I asked him about the $500 gingivitis therapy they were trying to upsell me on. He said warily, "We recommend it once a year, but it's not necessary, especially with your teeth." Perfect! So the next day I come in for my cleaning. The dental hygienist said, "We refuse do your regular cleaning today until the gingivitis therapy is done." EXCUSE ME? The one procedure that my insurance covers you can't do until I pay $500 out-of-pocket for other procedures? And I have to come in for a THIRD time! AND they were still they still had my cleaning on the invoice even though I wasn't receiving it that day! This is when I knew I was being scammed and left immediately. Secondly, my mom went there before I did and had the same experience. She was told she had periodontal disease and would need several hundred dollars of procedures and MULTIPLE visits. She decided against it and went to a different dentist who said that she did NOT have periodontal disease and did not need those treatments at all. If you're looking for a quick cleaning, don't waste your time going here because you can't even get one until your third appointment regardless. Guess you have to pay for a virtual consultation before you get a cleaning. I saw two people walk out that were there for cleanings, but they were gonna do the cleaning until they did the other dental work that their insurance wouldn't cover then they get the cleaning and then have to see somebody virtual are they so lazy? They can't have a dentist in the office that can do anything physical and not put it all on the tech. Highway robs what I say but everything is different in Florida that's for sure no compassion. I've noticed in any medical field that there is anybody really competent here there may be a lot but everything's all about money money money money explanation and that's for a state that should be catering to the Elder. Stay far away from this place. I am beyond frustrated and honestly shocked by the way this office treats its patients. I came here today with my wife, who previously received dental services at this location. Since then, she has been repeatedly billed because the office failed to submit her insurance claims--a problem that never should have happened in the first place. My wife tried calling the office countless times, only to be ignored every single time. No calls returned. No answers. Nothing. We were forced to drive to this location four separate times just to try to get someone to do their job. Each visit came with the same empty promises from staff members who conveniently refused to give their real names. Every time, we were told, "The claim will be submitted." It never was. As they continued to send us bills, we became genuinely worried about being sent to collections for something that was not our fault. During our fourth visit (today), my wife finally asked for printed copies of the claims so she could submit them herself--because clearly, this office wasn't going to do it. I asked to speak with an office manager. I was told there wasn't one. I asked who was in charge. I was given only a first name--although I asked for a last name; no last name. I asked for an email address to file a complaint. I was told there was none. Let that sink in: a medical office with no manager, no accountability, and no way to escalate a serious issue or to communicate with management. Completely stunned by this level of incompetence, I stepped outside to my car to retrieve my phone to record what was happening. Instead of addressing the problem like professionals, the front desk employee (who identified herself as "Sill") called someone who instructed her to dial 911. Yes--911. For a patient simply asking for answers. An officer arrived and we were warned to stay away from the premises. Wow! This is how they treat their patients: ignore them, mishandle their insurance, refuse accountability, and then call the police when confronted with legitimate concerns. It was humiliating, infuriating, and absolutely unacceptable. This office is unprofessional, unethical, and completely irresponsible. First off-the gal at the front desk had NOT pulled my forms that I had filled in online as requested. She also did not pull my xrays (FULL SET) that I had sent over, 2 weeks prior to my visit. When I asked, "Don't you do that BEFORE patients arrive?" I rec'd no answer. Then, apparently, I cannot have a cleaning because I would not submit to a panorama xray. A cleaning. Seriously? So, all of my xrays did nothing, and they wanted to expose me and my thyroid to yet ANOTHER blasting. At age 60, I have had ENOUGH xrays and I don't feel I need to have more of these done, especially since the ones I had sent over were LESS THAN 6 months old. read more

I almost never write reviews, especially negative ones, because I work in healthcare and understand how important community trust is. But I feel a responsibility to warn other patients about my experience. I visited Ormond Coast Dental five times and paid my copay plus additional charges each visit--about $100 or more per appointment, despite having excellent dental insurance. Months later, I discovered that none of my claims had been submitted. It is now February 2026--over a year later--and the claims still have not been handled correctly. I called the office at least eight times, had my concerns "escalated" multiple times, and even went in person several times. Each time I was told the claims were being mailed, yet nothing was ever followed up on. When I finally mailed the claims myself via certified mail, my insurance told me they were submitted incorrectly, which is why they couldn't be paid. When I returned to the office to resolve this, things became even more concerning. I was told that billing is just a "courtesy" and they don't have to submit anything. I asked for the office or billing manager and was denied any contact information. When I asked for the staff member's name, she gave me a fake name, and when my husband recorded the interaction for our own protection, she called the police. This is extremely alarming--an office that holds personal health information but refuses to provide even basic transparency or accountability. The staff seem disconnected and unaware of each other's roles, and when I asked to speak with the dentist, I was told he is only an "independent contractor" and has nothing to do with billing. As a healthcare professional, I genuinely found this experience disturbing. Patients deserve accurate billing, honesty, and a safe, accountable environment. My wife had a severely bad tooth that was causing her incredible pain, so we found a dental office close by that had good reviews. Instead of removing or repairing her tooth they did extensive procedures and had her keep returning several times in the course of six weeks (meanwhile she was in terrible pain). They never removed the bad tooth but wanted to do costly surgery which would be several thousands of dollars!! Realizing this reputable dentist seemed like a scammer we located another, which was Coast Dental in Ormond Beach. They were incredible! They fully understood that removing the painful terrible tooth was the main priority and they got right on it. They didn't even attempt to do all the other procedures which might be important at a later date but were not important at the moment. And the dentist was so incredible that he removed the tooth without causing my wife any pain or discomfort at all... and that is rare since she normally despises dental visits because of her sensitive mouth which feels every little 'poke or jab' with high discomfort. We are so glad we went to Coast Dental and highly recommend them! read more

HORRIBLE experience they try to scam you and make you pay for services that are covered by your insurance, but they bill it in a way that it is not covered by your insurance. Also, they want you to make THREE appointments to get a cleaning, they split it up over three appointments so they can charge you and your insurance more. They will submit your insurance incorrectly and you will receive a huge bill in the mail. When you call to try to resolve the issue or resubmit to your insurance, NO ONE picks up the phone and NO ONE calls you back despite multiple attempts. If you stay on the line long enough, it will transfer you automatically to a scheduling department where they cant help you with anything payment related. This office gave my son a deep cleaning (instead of regular cleaning that my whole family usually get from other dental offices). The staff reassured me that it was covered with my dental insurance. Despite my misgivings, I gave consent to proceed with the cleaning (the office had my dental insurance information several months before the cleaning appointment). The dental insurance denied the claim and I ended up paying over $230 more than the office claimed I would owe. Next appoint had broke tooth they took x-ray and exam from doctor which they show me insurance is paying for, won't pay for. Scheduled appointment to have 2 crowns had them check my insurance to see if they'll pay. Stated insurance will pay for them, got to checking and insurance won't pay anything. Tried to call office to discuss it but no answer. This is a on going issue not answering phone. The office staff is rude and incompetent. They change your appointment time and don't call, just send a reminder with a new time. The dentist, who is wonderful by the way, tells you the plan and when you go to check out the office staff tells you no, they don't do it that way. They hound you for cleanings when there are other more crucial problems. I complained about them changing my appointment without calling, and the office manager called me three times that day to try to belittle me because I missed an appointment that they changed the time on the morning of. I scheduled a appointment from the link they sent me had to wait two weeks to be seen and once I show up for my appointment and received a text that I'm all set for the time and date of my appointment they tell me when I show up they don't see my appointment and I show them the text and she tells me did I get a confirmation call from them. Which they never said I would need so how would I know and she wouldn't fit me in to be seen said they are triple booked and gave my corporates number and said to talk to them about scheduling. Update. You can't reach anyone in the office. When you do. They are rude and hostile especially when you are questioning padded charges for services not rendered. A month after two simple extractions I was billed for a bone graft. That never happened. My insurance company has been trying to contact them for months. So have I. I have been searching for a good dentist for my son now that he is a young adult. We have been to a couple other corporate dentist's office and always felt like just another number. Upon our arrival at this office, the staff was nice and professional. My son went in to see the dentist, Jon Windom, and I joined them a bit later wherein Dr. Windom pointed out my son's teeth issues and gave him some helpful hints on what he can do to improve his gums and teeth. He explained a good course of action for him to take and I found him to be down to earth and he seemed as though he genuinely cared for my son's dental habits, and did not attempt to upsell us on anything he does not need. We will definitely recommend Dr. Windom to our friends and family. read more

Specifically scheduled exrays AND teeth cleaning at same visit, just as we'd always done. I have limited time to get this done, due to my husband's health. I arrive and I get fed a line of BS that they don't do both in one visit, and insinuated I was lying to say otherwise. I was told they've never done it that way. I should have had them look it up in my previous visits, but I was so upset, I just stormed out. This is the second time I've been on the receiving end of their crap. They are liers. The dentist Dr Jon Woodard doesn't have a clue how his front end office is operating, I lost $3500 in dental coverage due to there receptionist Cheryl who I explained numerous times how the insurance needed the bridge noted and it kept getting rejected. I was finally approved and at the very last minute they tell me I have to pay to get a tooth extracted when my insurance company United Health care advised me there was no charge, yet they tried to charge me. Used to be a client but now will be seeking another dentist. They don't care about the average person anymore if you don't have insurance they tell you what has to be done instead of the clients needs. Have to see a hygienist before any work needs to be done. Been going here and never had i heard this before. So hygienist can poke and probe my mouth cause issues open cavitys before dentist can tell me what my underlying issues are. The current office manager, with the exception of the actual dentist is extremely rude, unprofessional and uncouth. High turn over of staff quite possibly enables a harsh working environment which indirectly impacts the conditions of your care. My blind disabled sister had a scheduled teeth cleaning at 11:30 on 4/13/23 after receiving several follow-up reminder text messages, for her appt confirming, I received a call that the Ormond office was short staffed so I had to reschedule, for Monday 4/17 at 2:10 PM. I received a call as well as text messages on the very day of the appt to confirm, at 12:55 1 hour and 15 mins prior to her appt I was called they needed to cancel, "short staffed" yet again. I was none to pleasant at this point, in my eyes, did they not know this ALL DAY LONG? Then my caregiver showed up on time and the front desk had the nerve to say I was rude and my sister could not be seen in their office. I can assure you, if I had not cancelled 24 hours in advance, Coast would have expected me to pay. There is zero accountability on their side and although I was upset, they had no right to share anything with my sister's aide. It was NOT their place. Mind you I had just paid Coast an additional $125.00 for an extraction last Friday above and beyond her Medicaid, even though extractions are covered at 100%. Coast is the only MCNA provider in the area and it's clear they know it and could care less about the actual patient and more about that I was "rude" than the FACT they had cancelled 2 appts in less than a week. Their staff needs to take some lessons in empathy and compassion and be less focused on getting their feelings hurt. I can't give them a zero or I would. read more

The appointment I had was for a routine cleaning, exam and X-ray, the main being a cleaning which I verified with them when making the appointment. I showed up to my appointment and after waiting in the lobby for an hour, I got called back. Then she says we have you in for X-rays and an exam. I said it should be a cleaning too where she then replied, "we don't have time for that today". I left with nothing done. PROS: Faye, Dr. Windom, Shirley, and the dental hygienist that did my cleaning, were cool. CONS: My first appointment was bizarre and subpar (yeah, I'm a poet, I guess). 1. I took the time to call ahead, and email specific concerns I had (the nightmare call center assured me they'd receive it and the doctor would review it.. nope) 2. Had to re-do entire set of x-rays because Evelyn, the assistant/tech, couldn't find them in the computer after she did it the first time, but THEN found BOTH sets AFTER I did both... UGH! And I even shared how much I don't like x-rays/radiation, which she downplayed. 3. They tried to push me off on a telehealth doctor, when I thought I was making the appointment with Dr. Windom. As I sat there, angry, waiting for the computer to buffer and some rando dentist to appear on the screen, I told Evelyn I thought I was seeing Dr. Windom - the dentist whose reviews I read, and whose office I thought I was in. "Ohh you wanted to see Dr. Windom?" Me: "Um.. YEAH. Isn't he the dentist here?" Her: "Well, yeah. He's always here on site..." (??? Okay, if he's on site, why isn't he doing my exam??.. UGH, what a weird world we live in!) So... Dr. Windom did end up seeing me, and then the other doctor popped up on the screen in the middle of our exam, and then... Dr. Windom immediately left the room. (I was like that cartoon character doing a double take... "umm where are you going?") 4. Didn't care for Evelyn's attitude/insensitivity/lack of compassion towards me, and my confusion (as well as when I went back the second time, which will be my last). The communication system for this office is highly annoying. IF you reach Faye, it's fine and she'll help you, but all the MANY calls and texts from the call center, asking to confirm, etc. - those messages apparently never reach the office so it's clearly a waste of time AND very frustrating. (EX: I had called to cancel an appointment weeks ahead of time and left a message, and apparently they never got it, so the day before it looked like my fault for cancelling. Also, I received multiple calls to confirm the appointments I had, and they just keep calling, apparently never relaying messages or actually accepting the confirmations.) *****FINAL STRAW: They (their call center) has been calling me constantly for the past couple of months and have left MANY messages - all to schedule an appointment (that I did not even request!) claiming "the doctor has reviewed your records and would like to see you..." (Creepy salesy thing because there is no need to see the doctor again until next year, so I'm assuming they need the business?) - I even BLOCKED their number, and they still slipped by into my voicemail! I JUST CALLED AND TOLD THEM TO STOP CALLING ME AND THAT I'M FINDING A NEW DENTIST. So, yeah, I clearly just needed to vent, but it's all the truth, as I experienced it, and want to warn others. (I should have heeded the warnings of the other reviewers) Bottom line: 99% of the staff is cool, but the communication and office systems are just too much to put up with. Not worth the frustration. A few weeks back, I cracked a molar in the upper right in the back of the mouth. The crack went below the gum line and food was getting stuck in it. When I made my appointment, it wasn't really hurting but after a few days of digging out food, I guess I irritated the gums. I went in and they did x-rays and told me it wasn't at the root level and gave me a plan of a root canal and crown. I'm on Medicare and can't afford such luxuries so I told them I wanted it pulled. Came back a week later to have it pulled, and Dr. Windom made the suggestion to fill the area since it wasn't down at the root area quite yet and if it gets to bothering me in the future, we can do a root canal or pull the tooth at that time. The filling was covered by insurance, and I kept an important tooth for chewing so thank you Dr. Windom for making this suggestion. I'm happier having the tooth and liked that you see the value in your patients keeping their teeth if at all possible. read more

I told the person behind the desk that I never cancelled, then she said my wife did, told her no way she did. I can't believe this place is in business because they have no idea on how to operate. I DO NOT recommend this practice & the receptionist FAYE at the Coastal Dental Ormond Beach office is extremely rude, condescending, & sarcastic and quite frankly she has no business in a position where she has contact with the public in any way shape or form. I made an appointment over a month ago & was inundated with automated calls, texts, and emails reminding me of my appointment so to ensure I was not late I took the day off from work for my 3pm appointment & at 12:20pm on the day of the appointment I was called because they needed to reschedule for an emergency office meeting! I mean seriously an OFFICE MEETING?!?! I declined rescheduling & within moments received another text confirming a Wednesday 3/31 3:30pm appointment that I was clear I did not want. So I called the office to make sure they removed me from the schedule & FAYE is who answered the call & although I was/am frustrated by the lack of professionalism at Coastal Dental I did apologize to Faye telling her I know it's not her fault so my frustration is not directed at her, she proceeded to respond with a sarcastic laugh & was incredibly rude, condescending, & overall absolutely disgusting. I did lose my cool at that point & I told her exactly what I thought of her & I hung up. Prior to me hanging up she said basically calling the coastal dental corporate office would be a waste of my time! I should have read the reviews for Coastal Dental Ormond Beach BEFORE making an appointment because apparently Faye's behavior is the "norm" at this practice! I will not only be filing a formal complaint with the Coastal Dental Corporation I will also be filing one with my dental insurance carrier because Faye is/was absolutely hands down the most disgustingly rude receptionist I've ever experienced in my life!!! I am so disappointed!!  This would have been my first visit to see Dr. Windom at the Ormond Beach, Florida location.   Since I was a new patient, I had to wait over a month.   I received both an email and a cell phone text confirming that I had an appointment. I also had to take a day off from work and lost pay.  When I arrived at 8:50 am, the woman at the front desk told me that I didn't have an appointment.  I tried to show her the text message showing that I had one, but she didn't care.  Kept saying nope, nope, nope.... She blamed Corporate for setting up the appointment and said she had nothing to do with it.  She was rude and unprofessional!!  I became very upset that she didn't want to help.  I told her that she needed to call someone to get this resolved.   As far as I was concerned, I did have an appointment!! Not only did she not do anything but had the audacity to tell me that I wasn't welcome here anymore.  I guess my time and business isn't valued here.  It's a shame since I heard Dr. Windom was a good dentist.  How awful that he has a staff member who disrespects their corporate office and patients.   I won't be going back!! read more

I've had several appointment times changed on me at the last minute over the past year. I called to confirm the day before only to show up and be told that the appointment time I had made, confirmed, and knew was correct was not the time I had made. The receptionist blamed any mistakes on their call center. However, most recently, I managed to get an appointment that they kept, and while I was waiting I over heard the receptionist (not Faye) Talking on the phone to a patient named Maria who wanted to have an appointment for the next day at 4pm. The receptionist told her that someone already had the 4 pm time slot, but that she would call him and see if he could reschedule. She then called the man, got his voicemail, left a message and lied to him telling him that she was confirming the appointment HE had made for 3 pm.
